TEHRAN (Iran News) –The picture of a polar bear sleeping on a tiny iceberg drifting in the Arctic sea, taken by an amateur Iranian-British photographer, wins wildlife photography award.

The image was crowned the winner of the best wildlife photo of the year award.
The picture was taken by Iranian-British photographer Nima Sarikhani.

He took the picture in the north-most point of Norway near the North Pole.“This photograph has stirred strong emotions in many of those who have seen it,” Sarikhani said.

Iranian photographers shine at Finnish photo festival

A Finnish photo contest has honored 2 Iranian photographers with awards.

According to public relations department of FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique) center in Iran, the event held in Finland awarded ‘Vision Bronze Medal’ and ‘The Best Friendship photo’ title to Kiarang Alaei, for his photo, named ‘Loyalty’. Meanwhile, the photo ‘Single’ by Hamid Reza Helali won the ‘PSA Honorable Mention.’

The festival was held in Finland by the Finnish Museum of Photography, under the auspices of the FIAP and the Photographic Society of America (PSA) in three different sections. It displayed works by photographers from Iran, who are members of the FIAP center in Iran including Kiarang Alaei, Bahram Yazdanpanah, Hamid Reza Helali, Ahmad Khatieri and Amir Hossein Honarvar.

Iranian photographer Mehdi Ruhi honored at Zhuhai exhibition

TEHRAN – Iranian photographer Mehdi Ruhi has won the CPNO Bronze Medal at the 1st Zhuhai International Exhibition of Photography in China.

He received the honor for “Habitant of Wall 4”, a black and white photo that shows a man at foot of a tall wall, upon which a cat is walking.

The CPNO Gold Medal was awarded to Tang Chan-Seng from Macau for “Tackle 3” while Dubiel Cezary from Poland received the CPNO Silver Medal for “Architects Dream 1”.

The Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), which have made contributions to the exhibition, each awarded three prizes at the event.

The Iranian photographers participating at the Bristol Festival of Photography in Britain were honored in various parts of the event.

The Iranian photographers participating at the Bristol Festival of Photography in Britain, including the photographers from at the Focus Photo Club (a representative of FIAP in Iran), were honored in various parts of the festival.

Eyes photo collection by Negar Aqaalitari won the Bronze medal of FIAP and Crossing photo collection by Ehsan Nikfarjam and Iron Seller photo collection by Amirali Navadeh-shahla were given the Honorable Mention.

The festival was organized under the supervision of the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), and the American Photography Society of America (PSA) in four sections on free color, free monochrome, travel, and nature issues.

Works by members of the Focus Photo Club including Ehsan Nikfarjam, Amirali Navadeh-shahla, Kaveh Manafzadeh, Shirzad Rostamdoost, Taghi (Farzad) Hamidimanesh, Saeed Abdollahi, Siamak Jafari, Shahriar Dabiri, Abdolmaeed Maroufi, Mohammad Hemmati, Maryam Hasani Barchlouie, Mehdi Zabol Abbasi, Negar Aghaalitari, Younes Hemmatinia, Akram Niksefat Zendehdel, Evin Abbasi, Jamaloddin Teymoori, Chia Hassankhali, Dariush Ghannbarnasab Behbahani, Saeed Arabzadeh, Seyyed Shahaboddin Montazeri, Mohammadali Shamsoddin, Mehdi Aghighi and Navid Shayesteh were accepted.

Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique, or FIAP is an international organization of national associations of photography. More than 85 national associations are members, comprising nearly one million individual photographers. FIAP was founded by M. Van de Wijer of Belgium in 1946.

Photographers to mark World Wetlands Day in Ramsar

TEHRAN – An exhibition of photos by Iranian photographers celebrating World Wetlands Day (WWD) will open in the northern Iranian city of Ramsar on February 2.

A collection of 29 photos on the theme of wetlands will go on view at the Ramsar Grand Hotel on the sidelines of a conference on World Wetlands Day, the Persian service of IRNA has announced.

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on February 2. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971 in Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

Since 1997, the Ramsar Secretariat provides outreach materials to help raise public awareness of wetlands in the world.

The Standing Committee of the convention approved “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future” as the theme for World Wetlands Day in 2018.

Iranian photographer wins award at Trofeo Gipuzkoa contest

TEHRAN – Iranian photographer Davud Ameri has won the CEF Silver Medal at the Trofeo Gipuzkoa Internacional, an international photography salon in San Sebastian, Spain.

He received the honor for his single photo “The Place I Lost My Leg”, the organizers announced on Friday.

Ameri fellow photographers Mohammadreza Masumi and Saman Purkhoshamuz received honorable mentions at the contest.

The winning photos will be showcased in an exhibition during January and February 2018.

The contest was organized by the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP).

Iranian photographers honored at Serbia Exhibition Desire

TEHRAN – Iranian photographers won several gold medals at the 2nd Exhibition Desire in the Serbian city of Bor last week.

Organized by the Balkan Photo Club, the exhibition was held in different categories including portrait, photojournalism, nature and travel. Winners were announced on October 24.

In the photojournalism section, Shakhavan Osmani won the Global Photographic Union (GPU) Gold Medal for “Noruz, Celebration of Kordestan” and Nima Vahdani received the Image Colleague Society (ICS) Gold Medal for “Alambandan 4”.

In the portrait category, the GPU Gold Medal was presented to Amin Mahdavi for “Setayesh” and the Photo Association of Serbia (FSS) Gold Medal went to Saeid Arabzadeh for “The Darkness”.

Several other Iranian photographers were also awarded with honorable mentions in different categories.

Rasa Milojevic and Aleksandar Manasiev from Serbia and Petar Sabol from Croatia were the members of the jury this year.
