TEHRAN (Iran News) — Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a senior foreign policy advisor to the Iranian parliament speaker, has called for regional countries’ cooperation to protect the Persian Gulf security.

“Preserving the security of the Persian Gulf needs collective cooperation of regional countries,” Amir Abdollahian said in a tweet, Mehr reported on Tuesday.

“The outcome of the United States and other foreigners’ military presence and the foreigners’ stockpiling of weapons in the Persian Gulf would be an increase in insecurity,” he pointed out.

Amir Abdollahian stated that dialogue, building trust, and mutual respect are currently necessary for the region.

“And the Islamic Republic of Iran has always recommended this path,” he added.

Iran has in recent months called for closer cooperation with regional countries to counter threats.

President Hassan Rouhani, during his speech at the 74th UN General Assembly, called on regional states to join the Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE).

“Based upon the historical responsibility of my country in maintaining security, peace, stability, and progress in the Persian Gulf region and Strait of Hormuz, I would like to invite all the countries directly affected by the developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to the ‘Coalition for Hope’, meaning Hormuz Peace Endeavor,” Rouhani said at the summit.

He added, “The Coalition for Hope is based on important principles such as compliance with the goals and principles of the United Nations, mutual respect, equal footing, dialog and understanding, respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, inviolability of international borders, the peaceful settlement of all disputes, and more importantly, the two fundamental principles of non-aggression and non-interference in the domestic affairs of each other. The presence of the United Nations is necessary for the creation of an international umbrella in support of the Coalition for Hope.”

“Then, entire officials from related countries including Arab states, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, India and other beneficiary countries should reach an agreement over the Moscow-offered document.”

He further said, “In case of reaching an agreement over the document, the entire nations in the very important region (of the Persian Gulf) will have peace of mind for exporting their crude to Japan, the Far East and China.”

Bogdanov stated that the Russian Foreign Ministry embarked on preparing the country’s security doctrine for the Persian Gulf in June, adding, “One of the suggested policies stipulated in the document will be preventing establishment of any trans-regional military base in the region.”

Bogdanov went on to say that the draft document has been handed over to representatives of Arab countries, Iran, Turkey, the five permanent members of the UNSC, the European Union, the Arab League and BRICS nations.

Earlier this month, Zarif stated “I invite my colleagues in the leaderships of other regional states, and in the academic and diplomatic communities, to join us in forging a blueprint for peace, security, stability, and prosperity.”

“Iran believes that solving differences in the Persian Gulf region doesn’t require military tension, foreign intervention, and military presence of other countries; the issue of Persian Gulf security should be resolved through negotiation among regional countries,” Spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, Hossein Naghavi Hosseini, Iran News quotes what he told Mehr News Agency on Wednesday.

“This is why we welcomed Saudi Arabia’s proposal to establish security in the Persian Gulf since we believe that regional countries should engage in talks and reach a consensus to solve the issue of security,” he also added.

“The Rouhani-proposed HOPE initiative (Hormuz Peace Endeavor) is based on negotiation among regional countries and we hope that this will be realized,” said the MP.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani offered HOPE initiative in UN General Assembly. The initiative seeks cooperation among the regional countries for maintaining security in the strategic waterway. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Tuesday that details of the plan will be submitted to Persian Gulf littoral states in near future.

The Iran-proposed plan comes as the United States is trying to persuade its allies into the maritime coalition to allegedly secure free shipping in the Persian Gulf region. Tehran has condemned the move, highlighting that the presence of foreign forces in the region will do nothing but sow more insecurity. UK, Australia, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and UAE have so far joined the US-led coalition.

“US military coalition has failed since many countries have not welcomed the plan,” added Naghavi Hosseini.
