Persian carpets to go exhibited in Bangkok

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A selection of 30 rare Persian carpets worth 50 million baht ($1,644,737) will be showcased at the Bangkok Persian Carpet Exhibition 2019 in River City Bangkok, from October 17 to November 24.

Organized by Art on Da Floor, a community of avid collectors, under the theme of ‘Persian Carpet and Your Lifestyle,’ the splendid show will transform each individual exhibition room into the ideal home space, taking visitors on an odyssey via these century-old carpets set in daily living surroundings, bangkokpost.com reported.

Visitors will discover how to blend traditional rugs with their modern home decor through different concepts in various parts of the house.

A highlight of the exhibition will be a 100-percent fine wool carpet by the Amoghli family, one of the top three weaving families in Iran, who produced and designed carpets exclusively for the Golestan Palace Museum. It is worth more than 10 million baht ($328,947).

There will be a showcase of exquisite Persian carpets alongside a classic and elegant 140-year-old grand piano. It’s the only custom-made grand piano by Steinway and Sons in Thailand, and is worth 10 million baht ($328,947).

One of the rooms also features a range of interesting anecdotes about the links between Persian carpets and Thai silk throughout history. A wide range of rare Persian carpets in different colors will also be available for collectors to purchase.

Tehran to host 28th Handmade Carpet expo late Aug.

The event, which is known as the world’s most important and biggest event in the art and industry of handmade carpets, will host a score of Iranian and foreign companies active in different parts of the industry.

Iran National Carpet Center, as the sponsor and organizer of this important event, will provide special facilities and options for foreign businessmen who are active in the handmade carpet sector.

A number of business and trade delegations from various countries are expected to visit the exhibition and hold trade talks with Iranian producers and exporters of handwoven carpets.

The event attracts as many as 4,000 visitors each year. The previous edition of the exhibition hosted over 670 producers, export companies and manufacturing units across the country.

Persian handmade carpet, besides excellent position in art and culture, is considered as a luxury commodity with a high value that has been adorned in many palaces, museums and private houses around the world.

Iranian nano carpets exported to 25 countries in 2018

According to Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council (INIC), Farrokh Sepehr Kashan Co., one of the sub-branches of Farrahi Carpet, exported 1.5 USD worth of nanotechnology enhanced carpets to as many as 25 countries in 2018.

The carpets have an antibacterial feature which does not reflect on their price.

Iranian producers of nanotechnology-enhanced products have been very active and prolific in the past few years. Last year, Parsa Polymer Sharif, one of Iran’s main nanotechnology enhanced pipe producers, reported a 60 percent growth in exports, saying that it aims to triple its exports this year.

Also last year, an Iranian company exported as many as 70 tons of nanotechnology enhanced towels to neighboring countries, including Georgia, Iraq, and Azerbaijan. The company, Banian Azar Novin Ideal Co., exported 70 tons of nano enhanced towels to various neighboring countries in 2018 valued at $600,000.

Nano enhanced towels are frequently used in Iran’s hospitals. The reasonable price besides durability and the fact that the towels need less washing compared to conventional towels make the Alale Azar products very valuable. The company is planning to develop its export targets.

Iran exports $180mn Persian carpet in 7 months

Deputy Head of Iran’s Carpet Center for Economic Affairs Mohammad Mehdi Farshchi said Iran exported hand-woven carpets worth $180 million over the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 20).

Iran exported $290 million hand-woven carpet in 2016, he said, adding the figure rose to $359 million in 2016, rising by 3 percent in terms of weight and and 23 percent in terms of value.

The official later added that the traditional product of Iran had a great international reputation asserting “Iranian art has been introduced to many countries through hand-woven carpets. Compared to other industries, production of carpet brings about a high level of value added while it requires less capital.”

At another part of his remarks, Farshchi enumerated marketing strategies pursued by Iran’s Carpet Center including finding place in new foreign markets, facilitating exchange of market information in the value chain of hand-woven carpets, developing trademark of Persian carpets, strengthening and developing domestic market demand, maintaining and developing existing foreign markets and promoting distinctive features of artistic, cultural and historical features of Persian carpets.

In April, ex-Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh announced that Iran’s export of handwoven carpets to the US has increased considerably in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017).

The US, Germany, Lebanon, the UAE, Pakistan, Japan, Britain, Qatar, South Africa and Australia were the top ten costumers of Persian carpet last year with the US taking the lead in imports of the product from Iran.

Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of the Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient Persia.

There is an estimated population of 1.2 million weavers in Iran producing carpets for domestic markets and international export.

The country produces about 5 million square meters of carpets annually of which 80 percent are sold in international markets.
