Parliament speaker condemns assassination of Yemeni PM in Israeli terrorist attack

TEHRAN (Iran News) Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has expressed heartfelt condolences following the assassination of the Yemeni premier and several cabinet ministers.

Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi and several cabinet ministers were killed in an Israeli strike on Thursday.

In reaction to the incident, Ghalibaf, in a statement, condemned the recent terrorist attack carried out by the Israeli regime, which resulted in the tragic loss of these leaders.

In his message, Ghalibaf emphasized that the assassination of the prime minister of the friendly and brotherly nation of Yemen in a cowardly assault highlights the historical pattern of crimes committed by this regime.

He described the atrocities of the regime as inhumane, calling the attack a clear example of aggression against the Yemeni people and their legitimate government during a time of intense struggle against Israel.

The official said that this crime reveals the brutal nature of the Israeli regime.

The actions only breed anger, hatred, and disgust among Muslims and free thinkers worldwide, he said.

In reaction to the incident, Ghalibaf, in a statement, condemned the recent terrorist attack carried out by the Israeli regime, which resulted in the tragic loss of these leaders.

Parliament speaker: National unity is Leader’s mandate for all

TEHRAN (Iran News) Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says maintaining national unity is a key mission set by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for every Iranian, and undermining this unity must be avoided by everyone.

In an address to an open session of the Iranian Parliament on Sunday, Qalibaf said that the Leader’s recent remarks, which highlighted the importance of cohesion among individuals with different political and religious leanings as a “great national unity,” place a serious responsibility on elites and officials.

The speaker said the recent 12-day Israeli-imposed war clearly showed that the enemy suffered a major blow from the Iranian nation, and that national unity remains the greatest deterrent against any aggression.

Israel attacked Iran in an unprovoked act of aggression on June 13, assassinating military commanders and nuclear scientists in targeted strikes, and killing civilians in air raids on residential areas. On June 22, the United States also joined the war and bombed three Iranian nuclear sites. The war was halted on June 24 after the Tel Aviv regime requested a ceasefire following retaliatory missile strikes by Iran.

“The world has seen that our national cohesion is the main reason the enemy does not dare act against Iran,” Qalibaf said, adding that preserving this unity is a duty for all Iranians and requires recognizing the Leader as a unifying and reassuring authority.

He said Iran’s enemies were slapped by the hand of the Iranian nation, which maintains a deep-rooted bond with its homeland, something he said cannot be understood by “those without a homeland, rented nations, or homeless mercenaries.”

Qalibaf also condemned the Israeli regime’s “savage” attacks on Damascus, saying Iran firmly stands by the Syrian people and supports their country’s territorial integrity.

He warned that the recent attacks on Syria’s defensive infrastructure and threats of territorial occupation are a wake-up call for those who naively believed that submission to the “unleashed rabid dog” would bring peace.

“It is time for Islamic governments, backed by the Islamic Ummah, to find the courage to confront this expansionist regime and push it back,” he added.

US Sanctions Damages Never to Be Forgot, Parliament Speaker Says

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Iranian nation will never forget the damages caused by the US sanctions.

He made the remarks during his meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on Sunday morning.

“Iranian people are pessimistic about the US due to its unilateral, oppressive and illegal sanctions, so the firm decision of the Iranian government and people is to strengthen the economy and internal technology to overcome these sanctions given to our country’s high capacity,” Ghalibaf said.

Stating that Iran, within the framework of its principles, has an approach of cooperation with all countries, he added, “Iran is against any kind of domination, therefore, the non-negotiation with the United States is due to their hegemonic view.”

“The Iranian nation will never forget the losses caused by the US sanctions,” he said, adding, “So the US can not put pressure on Iran for negotiation.”

Referring to the non-compliance with the obligations during the implementation of the nuclear deal, he highlighted, “Despite the fact that the recent positions of the Security Council were good, the non-compliance with the commitments in the nuclear deal is one of the bitter memories of the Iranians, so we are waiting for it to be compensated.”

Stating that an independent Europe has the ability to establish smooth relations with Iran, Ghalibaf said, “Europe should not be influenced by US policies, especially since their actions have created instability and insecurity in the region.”

He also referred to the assassination of Lt. Gen. Soleimani, saying that his actions prevented the spread of terrorism, but the United States assassinated him.

Ghlaibaf said that the forced normalization of relations between some countries in the region and the Zionist regime under the leadership of the Americans is not a way to solve the problems of the region, adding, “These actions increase instability in the region, while Switzerland has always shown that it has taken steps towards world peace and humanitarian issues.”

He also congratulated the 100th anniversary of the start of relations between Iran and Switzerland.

“In recent years, an agreement and a cooperation document have been signed between the two countries, the pursuit of the provisions of which will help strengthen relations between the two countries,” he noted.

“We must expand our relations in the economic, political, cultural, technological, scientific and educational fields, especially since recently an account has been opened between Iran and Switzerland for the exchange of medicine and food, which, of course, should not be enough,’ Ghlaibaf said.

Stating that today Iran is suffering from economic problems caused by oppressive sanctions, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, for his part, said, “We hope that the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the start of relations between Iran and Switzerland will strengthen the relations between the two countries more than before, and we will be able to play our role as guardians of interests well.”

Referring to the financial channel that has recently opened between the two countries, he added, “This financial channel contributes to the flow of Iran’s revenues, especially in the field of food and medicine, which, of course, is a small measure and should be expanded.”

Cassis also referred to the presence of some Swiss companies in Iran, saying that they are are still present in the country despite sanctions against Iran.

“We will do our utmost to advance international discourse and strengthen bilateral relations.,” he highlighted.

The Swiss Foreign Minister arrived in Isfahan on Saturday morning to pay a three-day visit and meet with officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Cassis is scheduled to meet with President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, as well as other Iranian high-ranking officials.

Larijani: Lebanon not forced to accept Iran aid

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran is interested in expanding its cooperation with Lebanon, but at the same time, it does not oblige the Arab country to accept assistance.

Larijani made the remarks in an interview with ‘Lebanon 24’ while he was in Beirut on Sunday.

He emphasized that the Lebanese nation is the only party that can solve the problems of its own country. He added that the Lebanese people will reach ‘the safety of the shore’ whenever they decide, but putting trust in countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE would be a mistake, because “their words would be nothing more than empty promises.”

Larijani then said economic cooperation between Iran and Lebanon depends on the request of the Lebanese government, stressing that this requires continuous coordination, communication and cooperation between the two sides, and that “we will not force anyone to take any measure in this regard.”

Regarding regional issues, Larijani stated that, contrary to certain assumptions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention to infiltrate a country, adding “Iran’s presence in Iraq and Syria is no secret matter, but rather it is at the official request of their respective governments.”

Larijani further dismissed claims of Iran having a military base in Syria, adding “interference in the internal affairs of an independent state has never been part of Iran’s principles.”

He also added that those claims of US-Russia coordination to prevent the spread of Iran’s influence in the region were completely unfounded.

Iran to Support Syria: Ali Larijani

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran will stand by and support Syria.

The recent statements made by US President Donald Trump showed that they [US] are seeking Syrian oil and this issue is ‘disgraceful’ to a country that claims itself as a superpower in the world.

He made the remarks on Sun. in a meeting with a group of tribal chiefs of Syria and pointed to the decisive role of Syrian tribes in stabilizing this country and added, “the key role of Syria has been very effective and influential in a few decades ago in the field of resistance especially at the condition that some countries do not want Syria to be stable and have inflicted severe damages to the infrastructures of this Arab country.”

Syria’s crisis has been elapsed and presently, this country is moving towards rebuilding itself, he said, adding, “fortunately, sheiks of tribes, in the sensitive and critical condition of Syria, have adopted an accurate analysis on the current situation and are well aware of plots orchestrated by some countries against Syria.”

Some regional countries claimed that Syria will fall in a short period, he said, adding, “however, Iran efforts to support Syria helped to foil conspiracies waged by some regional countries against this country and consequently, people of this country with their religious zeal showed that role of tribal chiefs was very important in this regard.”

Moreover, Syria’s well-trained army showed that they enjoy high capability and potential in the fight against terrorism, Larijani emphasized.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani pointed to the presence of terrorist groups in Syria’s Idlib and said, “the presence of terrorist groups in this region has many adverse effects and this problem should be resolved as soon as possible.”

He also referred to the Astana Peace Talks and said, “cooperation between Iran, Turkey and Syria has been ‘very fruitful’ within the framework of these talks and presently, the issue of Constitution plays a pivotal role in the future of Syria that should be compiled and approved by the Syrian nation.”

Larijani will not run for Parliament upcoming election

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says he will not run for re-election in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“I represented the noble people of Qom for three terms, which has been an honor for me,” Larijani said on Saturday, according to ILNA.

Larijani added that “however, in general, I do not have any plans to be present in the next Majlis (parliament) and will not run for re-election.”

Parliamentary elections will be held on Feb. 21, 2020 with the approval of the Guardian Council

The midterm elections of the Assembly of Experts will also be held on the same date in Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, North Khorasan, Fars and Qom provinces.

Under Article 99 of Iran’s Constitution, the responsibility to supervise elections lays with the Guardian Council.

The body consists of six theologians appointed by the Leader and six jurists nominated by the Judiciary and approved by parliament.

Touching upon a plan to impeach the speaker, Hossein-Ali Haji-Deligani said, “The speakers’ performance caused Majlis not to stand atop all affairs.”

“The speaker has done a number of illegal violations whose last one is announcing his own private vote for gas price rise in the Supreme Economic Coordination Council, which includes heads of the three branches of the government, without consulting the representatives’ views,” Haji-Deligani have told earlier about Ali Larijani.

“In the meantime, the government optionally implements only those ratifications of the Majlis that it wants which is nothing but ignorance of legislators’ ratifications,” added Haji-Deligani, who represents Shahin Shahr and Meymeh in the parliament.

Iran prioritizes close ties with neighbors: parl. speaker

“Creating friendship and good communication with neighbors is one of the priorities of the ruling establishment,” Larijani addressed a conference on the “Organization of foreign Intelligence in Islamic Revolution’s Second Step” on Tuesday.

The senior parliamentarian hailed the Intelligence Ministry’s efforts for dealing with the country’s different issues with sensitivity and prudence.

Larijani said the Intelligence Ministry has experienced many ups and downs, as today it is well-experienced in doing jobs and this is an achievement.

Stressing the need for neutralizing plots and promoting the exchange of intelligence and cooperation with neighboring states, the Parliament speaker called for employing pious and revolutionary forces for countering corruption.

UK understands Iran’s today power different from past: Larijani

“In previous days, the resistance of the Iranian nation showed parts of its effects and the English understood that today’s conditions in Iran are different from the past and that they can no longer show their power using plots. The English were forced to give up their maritime piracy,” he said on Saturday while addressing the Parliament’s open session.

Pointing to Britain and US’ organizing of a coup on August 19, 1953 which overthrew Mosaddegh’s legitimate government, Larijani said that today’s power of Iran cannot be compared to the past and that enemies had no other choice but to withdraw from their act of piracy.

UK forces illegally seized The Grace 1 supertanker, laden with 2.1m barrels of oil, on July 4 off the coasts of Gibraltar. Despite all pressures from the United States which seeks to drive Iran’s oil sales to zero, a court in Gibraltar announced this week it was releasing the supertanker.

“America, which then organized the coup with the help of its allies, is shooting its last broken arrows today with utmost frustration,” added Larijani.

Imposing sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister and other officials of the country is ‘shameful’ for a country which claims to be a superpower, said Larijani, adding, “if you think that these measures can show your power, you should know that all the Iranian nation is standing tall against you. Put sanction on all to understand that nothing will happen.”

He made the remarks in a Tuesday meeting with the visiting Hamas delegation led by Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of the political bureau of the movement.

“Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy has always been supporting the oppressed Palestinians, and it follows the issue of Palestine with great sensitivity,” Larijani stressed.

Denouncing overt relations of some Islamic countries with the Israeli regime, he added as these states have failed in their other regional projects, such as in Syria and Iraq, they will also fail in Palestine “because the current capacity of Palestinian groups and Hezbollah cannot be compared to those in past.”

He went on to describe the so-called ‘Deal of Century’ as a pre-failed project, noting no country except several reactionary Arab states took the issue seriously.

For his part, Saleh al-Arouri said that the region is experiencing a sensitive and hard situation and highlighted the need to promote convergence and prevent the influence of the US and Israel.

He said that the US-proposed deal is aimed at solving the issue of Palestine in favor of Israelis, stressing, “We will resist the US project of ‘Deal of Century’ by forging unity among the Palestinian groups.”

IRGC responded to British act of piracy: Larijani

“The British committed piracy and we responded to it,” Larijani said in Sunday’s open session of the Parliament.

The remark came as MP Hosseinali Haji Deligani criticized the Parliament for not issuing a statement in support of IRGC’s measure. “We expected that the Parliament would talk about the honorable measure of IRGC and Navy in seizing the English oil tanker.”

IRGC confiscated British-flagged oil tanker ‘Stena Impero’ on Friday over violation of international maritime rules.

The IRGC spokesman, Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said on Saturday that the British oil tanker was being escorted by the British Royal Navy and it was seized after ignoring international maritime regulations by sailing into the Strait of Hormuz in the wrong direction, increasing the risk of collision with other vessels.

British tanker was confiscated by the Revolutionary Guards at the request of the southern province of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization, he said, adding that the tanker had switched off its transponder in violations of international maritime regulations, using the exit lane to enter into the Strait of Hormuz instead of moving towards the entrance of the Persian Gulf, increasing the risk of accident.

Earlier on Saturday, Allah-Morad Afifipoor, head of Ports and Maritime Organization in southern Hormozgan Province, said the 30,000-tonne UK-flagged Stena Impero tanker had “collided with a fishing boat on its route and, according to law, after an accident, it is necessary that the causes be investigated.”

Following the collision, those on board the fishing boat “contacted the British vessel but didn’t receive any response,” so they informed the Hormozgan maritime organization, “according to the legal procedures,” he added.

This seizure came as British Royal Marines in Gibraltar stormed the Iran-operated 300,000-tonne Grace 1 and detained it on July 4, accusing it of carrying oil to Syria in possible violation of the European Union’s sanctions on the Arab country. Iran condemned the move as “piracy” and summoned Britain’s ambassador in protest over it, highlighting that neither the tanker was headed to Syria, nor Iran is a member an EU member and subject to any European oil embargo.

“Unlike the piracy in the Strait of Gibraltar, our action in the Persian Gulf is to uphold international maritime rules,” wrote Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif in a tweet on Saturday.
