Parham Maghsoodloo Wins Bronze at President Cup 2024

TEHRAN (Iran News) Indian GM Nihal Sarin won the gold medal in the nine-round Swiss held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

He earned the $25,000 first prize after scoring 7.5/9 undefeated with a performance rating of 2809.

GM Javokhir Sindarov (UZB), GM Maghsoodloo (IRI) and GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) scored 7/9 each.

The total prize fund of the tournament was US$ 75000. The top three prizes were US$ 25000 + trophy, $15000 and $7000 each.

Iran chess grandmaster beats Swedish rival in Sigeman tournament

Maghsoodloo earned 1.5 points in this stage of the competition by defeating his rival, Swedish Grandmaster Tiger Hillarp Persson.

The Iranian player now stands behind the Indian and British players who are on the top of the third round’s list with two points.

The Tepe Sigeman & Co Tournament is celebrating its 25th edition this year with an extended playing field. Eight players (up from six) are competing in what is now a seven-round tournament, held May 3-9 in Malmo.

Iranian players have put on an outstanding performance in international competitions during the past years.

Maghsoodloo ranked first at FIDE World Junior Chess Championship 2018 which was held in Kocaeli – Gebze, Turkey.

Iran’s Maghsoodloo makes history by claiming World Junior Chess title

The Iranian grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo made history and claimed the title of the FIDE World Junior Chess Championship 2018.

Maghsoodloo won Russia’s Maxim Vavulin in the 10th round of games, securing his trophy while there are still two more rounds remaining. He could even earn the title by a draw in last game. This is the first time that an Iranian achieves this honorable trophy.

The 18-year-old grandmaster has collected 9.5 out of 10 possible points and is ahead of his closest followers by 2 points.

Describing him as the “magician from Persia”, the official website of the event writes, “it’s sure that we’re facing a big talent here and he’s definitely one of the main candidates in the world now to enter the superelite in near future.”

FIDE World Junior Chess Championship 2018 (open & girls under 20) kicked off in Turkey’s Kocaeli and Gebze, on September 4 and wraps up Sunday.
