 Iran men’s national sitting volleyball team beat Ukraine in the semi-final of 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships and earned ticket to Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Iran launched a 3-0 win against Ukraine (25-13, 25,19, 25-13) in the semifinal on Saturday.

Iran, 2016 Paralympic Champions, was in Pool B of the competition along with Russia, Germany and Japan where they managed to defeated all their rivals. Advancing to the next round, they gained victory over Paralympic bronze medalist Egypt 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-15) at a quarterfinal on Thursday.

Iran will face Bosnia & Herzegovina in the final match which will be held today in The Hague, Netherlands.

The 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships began on July 15 in Netherlands and will finish on July 22, 2018.

Meanwhile, Iran women’s national sitting volleyball team also participated in the event and finished 9th.

]]> Mehdi Mohammadi took Iran’s first gold medal at 7th edition of Para Asian Track Championships in Malaysia on Friday.

Iran has dispatched three cyclists including Mehdai Mohammadi, Alreza Ghasemi, and Bahram Soleimani to the competition, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran National Paralympics Committee (IRINPC).

Mehdi Mohammadi grabbed the gold medal at the individual stage, while the other two Iranian cyclists came sixth and seventh and failed to be among the first four cyclists.

The cyclists are scheduled to compete against their rivals at 1-kilometer and spirit pursuit events  on Monday.

The 7th edition of Para Asian Track Championships began in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur on Friday February 16, and will finish on February 20, 2018.

]]> TEHRAN  – Iranian para-archer Zahra Nemati has been nominated for the Allianz Athlete of the Month for September.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the shortlist for the award, and the public can now vote for the winner on www.paralympic.org.

The Iranian recurve archer united the Paralympic and world titles with another world title at the Beijing 2017 World Archery Para Championships. Nemati also won Worlds bronze in the mixed team open with Pouya Jalipour.

Other nominees are Erik Horrie (Australian, rowing), Justas Pazarauskas (Lithuanian, goalball), Jetze Plat (Dutch, cycling and triathlon) and Birgit Skarstein (Norwegian, rowing).
