Hamas Holds Rally in Gaza against Annexation Plan

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Palestinian resistance movement Hamas organized a mass rally in the Gaza Strip against Israel’s plan for annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank.

Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza took part in the rally following Friday prayers to condemn the annexation plan. Participants, including political figures, expressed their total rejection of the annexation plan which is in line with the Trump Administration’s so-called deal of the century.

Hamas official Mushir al-Masri said, “Our people are facing a historical juncture and a new chapter in the conspiracy targeting their cause through land theft, Jerusalem (al-Quds) Judaization, the West Bank annexation and all Zionist attempts aimed at liquidating our cause,” the Palestinian Information Center said.

“A message to the enemy: We will move from scratch even if it costs us our blood and our children, and it should realize that it is running towards its end and demise,” he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has set July 1 for the start of cabinet discussions on extending Israeli appropriation to settlements in the West Bank and annexing the Jordan Valley.

Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem (al-Quds) during the Six-Day War in 1967. It later annexed East Jerusalem (al-Quds) in a move not recognized by the international community.

Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.

But Israel’s aggressive settlement expansion and annexation plans have dealt a serious blow to any prospects of peace. The last round of Israeli-Palestinian talks collapsed in 2014. Among the major sticking points in those negotiations was Israel’s continued settlement expansion on Palestinian territories.

Pope warns against ‘unfair’ Palestine plans

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Pope Francis cautioned against “unfair” solutions aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

In a speech Sunday during a visit to the Italian southern port city of Bari to reflect on peace in countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Pope Francis lamented the many areas of war and conflict, including in the Middle East and Northern Africa, AP reported.

Pope Francis spoke of “the still unresolved conflict between Israel and Palestine, with the danger of not fair solutions, and, thus, presaging new crises.”

On January 28, Trump unveiled his so-called deal of the century, negotiated with Israel but without the Palestinians.

The new US peace plan would let Israel annex all of its settlements along with the strategic Jordan Valley. It would give the Palestinians limited autonomy in several chunks of territory with a capital on the outskirts of Al-Quds, but only if they meet stringent conditions.

Palestinian leaders, who severed all ties with Washington in late 2017 after Trump controversially recognized Al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime, immediately rejected the plan, with President Mahmoud Abbas saying it “belongs to the dustbin of history,” according to Press TV.

On February 11, Abbas told the UN Security Council that the US plan is in breach of United Nations resolutions and Palestinian sovereignty.

“I would like to say to Mr. Donald Trump that his plan cannot achieve peace and security as it cancels international legitimacy,” Abbas said.

Stressing that the plan would legitimize Israel’s illegal settlements and the annexation of occupied Palestinian land, Abbas said, “If you impose peace, it will not last, it cannot last. What gives you the right to annex these lands?”

The Palestinian president also called on the international community not to consider the plan as an international reference for negotiations, saying, “It is an Israeli-American preemptive plan in order to put an end to the question of Palestine.”

Palestinian leaders say the deal is a colonial plan to unilaterally control historic Palestine in its entirety and remove Palestinians from their homeland. They say it heavily favors Israel and would deny them a viable independent state.

Trump outlines contentious Palestine scheme

TEHRAN (Iran News) – US President Donald Trump has repeated his hugely-controversial endorsement of occupied Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s “undivided capital” as he outlined his administration’s self-styled scheme for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which Palestine has already dismissed.

Defying international outcry, Trump on Tuesday announced the general provisions of the plan that he has dubbed “the deal of century” at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his side.

The entire scheme for Palestine and Israel, trump added, has been penned in 80 pages, 50 of which, according to Reuters, encompass political courses of action, while the rest details an economic proposal that Washington announced last July, Presstv Reported.

Trump endorsed his contentious recognition in December 2017 of the al-Quds as Israel’s “capital,” a move he took in the face of historic Palestinian demands that the city’s eastern part serves as the capital of their future state. He said the plan envisages the city as the regime’s “undivided capital.”

“Under this vision, Jerusalem will remain Israel’s undivided — very important — undivided capital,” he said of the plan.

For years, the US had avoided declaring Jerusalem al-Quds the capital of Israel in the absence of a deal, as Palestinians also want the holy city as their capital.

In a hazy afterthought, though, Trump added that Palestinians too could have a capital in East Jerusalem.

The economic portion promises $50 billion in monetary allocations to Palestinians, Jordan, and Egypt. Palestinians have denounced the latter part of the US scheme as a means of bribing them into selling their rights.

The Palestinian sides — who had already rejected any such scheme in unison —were conspicuously absent from the ceremony, which experts view as largely ceremonial and an attempt to score a political win while each of the leaders on stage faces domestic crises.
