“We believe that Iran can play an important role. We would not shy away from any mediatory role by Iran. Mediations are always welcome,” Andrabi said, adding that Pakistan had a “very strong case”.

Recently Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had offered any assistance in helping to resolve the remaining differences and deescalate tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government.

However, the statement came as Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, arrived in Islamabad, along with a delegation, to participate in the 13th round of bilateral political consultations between the two neighboring countries. He is also scheduled to meet with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister.

Iran, Pakistan to Serve as Key Transit Route for China–Europe Trade Corridor

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the six-lane expansion of the Saveh–Salafchegan Expressway, a project valued at 120 trillion rials (12 hemats), the minister emphasized the growing importance of Iran’s transportation diplomacy and regional connectivity.

Highlighting the national and international importance of the new 65-kilometer highway segment, Sadegh said the project is not limited to the provinces of Qom and Markazi. “This is not just a regional development project; it is a national and international corridor that will strengthen Iran’s strategic transport links,” she explained.

She pointed out that the administration’s economic diplomacy, spearheaded by President Masoud Pezeshkian, places special emphasis on expanding trade with neighboring countries, with the transport sector playing a central role. “In recent weeks, we held high-level meetings in Azerbaijan and Pakistan to discuss ways of deepening transportation and trade cooperation,” she added.

According to Sadegh, a trilateral meeting between Iran, Russia, and Azerbaijan was recently held in Baku, where important agreements were reached. “We reached consensus on cargo insurance and freight guarantees for the missing link of the Rasht–Astara railway, and an executive contract between Iran and Russia will soon be signed,” she said. “This will accelerate the completion of the Rasht–Astara rail segment, a vital piece of the International North–South Transport Corridor.”

Turning to her visit to Pakistan for a ministerial summit of neighboring transport ministers, Sadegh revealed that the meeting produced three key outcomes. Among them, the most significant was the decision for Iran to serve as a gateway for trade between Eurasia, the Caucasus, and Russia via Azerbaijan. At the same time, Pakistan will function as an intermediary between China and Iran, ensuring that Chinese goods can be transported efficiently to Europe through this emerging corridor.

“The common vision between Iran and Pakistan,” she said, “is to create a seamless east-west trade route connecting China’s industrial centers to European markets via Iran’s rail and highway networks.”

Minister Sadegh reaffirmed that expanding Iran’s expressway and rail networks is central to boosting trade with regional partners. “We are grateful that despite sanctions and external constraints, our determination for progress remains unwavering. Challenges have only strengthened our unity and collective will,” she remarked.

She emphasized that infrastructure expansion — particularly highways and railroads — will help Iran realize its strategic goal of becoming a transit hub connecting Asia to Europe.

Addressing the ongoing national housing program, Sadegh criticized previous administrations for making unrealistic promises to citizens. “In the past, people were promised housing units without the availability of land, facilities, or basic infrastructure such as water and electricity,” she said. “There were even lotteries for housing units that didn’t have land or construction permits.”

She assured that the current government is taking a practical, evidence-based approach, ensuring that all land allocated for housing projects is properly prepared before delivery. “We will not hand over unprepared land. Every project we promise will be backed by real, operational readiness,” she stressed.

Iran, Pakistan to Draft $10b Trade Roadmap Within Three Months

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Joint Economic Commission between Iran and Pakistan on Monday, Sadegh described the meeting as a turning point in strengthening economic ties between the two neighboring Muslim nations.

She highlighted the long-standing relationship between Tehran and Islamabad, noting that the commission could pave the way for cooperation in trade, banking, transit, energy, agriculture, and culture.

Sadegh thanked Pakistan for its continued support of Iran on bilateral, regional, and international levels, particularly in the aftermath of Israel’s 12-day assault on Iran earlier this year. She said the gesture reflected the depth of friendship between the two nations and Pakistan’s constructive role in regional stability.

According to official figures, bilateral trade between Iran and Pakistan reached $3.129 billion in 2024, with $2.423 billion in Iranian exports to Pakistan and $700 million in Pakistani exports to Iran.

During President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad, the two countries agreed to set a target of $10 billion in annual trade, a goal that Sadegh described as a sign of strong political will on both sides.

She proposed that within the next three months, the roadmap for achieving this target should be drafted and signed by the relevant ministers. Establishing a secure financial channel and strengthening banking relations, she added, would be essential to this process.

Sadegh emphasized the need to upgrade transport infrastructure, including expanding border facilities at Mirjaveh and Taftan, and advancing the Zahedan–Taftan–Quetta railway project.

She also called for launching new shipping lines between Karachi (Port Qasim and Gwadar) and Iranian ports such as Chabahar and Bandar Abbas.

Highlighting progress in air transport, she noted the inauguration of direct flights between Tehran and Islamabad on September 8, and urged further expansion of flight destinations, airport cooperation, and air fleet exchanges along regional corridors.

The minister also revealed plans to launch a monthly ECO freight train on the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul route, calling it a strategic regional railway project.

Sadegh underlined Iran’s readiness to expand agricultural exports to Pakistan and stressed energy cooperation. She announced the official operation of the 132-kilovolt Plan–Jiwani power line and highlighted new initiatives in fiber-optic connectivity and communications.

The minister also referred to plans to increase the number of joint border markets, announcing that the Pishin–Mand market will reopen on August 30, 2025, creating new opportunities for local trade and employment.

She further encouraged the formation of joint committees to boost cultural, scientific, and tourism exchanges between the two countries.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development also emphasized the significant potential for cooperation in the fields of tourism and handicrafts, suggesting that these areas could be further developed through the organization of meetings, seminars, and cultural weeks.” Trade Roadmap ”

Concluding her remarks, Sadegh expressed hope that the commission’s negotiations and final agreements would lead to “practical and effective steps” in strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

TEHRAN (Iran News) The signing ceremony took place with Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Jihad, Gholamreza Nouri, and Pakistan’s Minister of National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, in attendance.

Minister Nouri said the agreements mark the conclusion of a three-day visit by a Pakistani delegation and reflect the outcomes of joint discussions. The documents include the establishment of the first Iran-Pakistan Joint Agricultural Committee and a cooperation framework in the fields of plant protection and quarantine.

Highlighting the complementarity of the two countries in the field of food security, Nouri noted:

“Over the past few days, we seriously followed up on the agreements reached during the President’s visit to Pakistan, particularly in food security, agriculture, and trade in agricultural products. These talks resulted in documents that will help remove barriers to the export of certain agricultural and food items.”

He predicted that agricultural and food trade between Iran and Pakistan, currently valued at $1.3 billion annually, could rise to $3 billion within the next two years.

According to Nouri, Pakistan has pledged to source its needed agricultural and food imports from Iran, while Iran will procure essential goods that Pakistan exports. He added that barter trade could accelerate the exchange of goods between the two nations.

During the ceremony, Minister Hussain thanked Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad for its hospitality and described the agreements as a continuation of the positive momentum created by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan.

“President Pezeshkian’s visit opened a new chapter in the warm relations between our two brotherly countries, which share deep cultural and historical ties,” Hussain said. “Cooperation Agreements”

He explained that following the President’s trip, Pakistan’s Prime Minister instructed him to pursue the agricultural cooperation initiatives discussed during the visit.

The two ministers held bilateral and technical meetings that resulted in the preparation of two documents: one outlining general agricultural cooperation and another specifying technical collaboration in various agricultural fields.

Hussain emphasized that Iran is not just a friendly country but a brotherly one, adding:

“We are ready to cooperate in all areas of agriculture to meet the needs of both nations by relying on each other’s strengths and production capabilities.”

He concluded by inviting Minister Nouri to visit Pakistan, promising a warm and heartfelt welcome.
