TEHRAN (Iran News) –In a post on his X account on Friday, Nasser Kanaani dismissed the anti-Iranian allegations that the Zionist regime’s foreign minister Israel Katz has leveled in remarks to his French counterpart Stephane Sejourne.

Kanaani denounced the claim as an instance of “hatemongering”, which the “child-killing” Israeli regime had resorted to as a “desperate attempt at deflecting the international public opinion away from the genocide in Gaza.”

He was referring to the brutal military onslaught that the regime has been waging against the Gaza Strip ever since October 7. The campaign has so far claimed the lives of at least 39,175 Palestinians, including more than 16,000 children, and injured upwards of 90,403 others.

The spokesman said the allegation was a means of “escaping forward in the face of the international rage and hatred (that has been incurred) concerning the regime’s war crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people,” Press TV reported.

Kanaani asserted that such accusations contradict the Olympic charter, which is based on peace and friendship, and serve as another example of the Israeli regime’s non-adherence to universal and international norms and values.

He said the claim was “more risible than plausible” given the fact that it had been made by a regime that had “crossed the boundaries of tyranny” by shedding the blood of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians over the past 10 months.

The spokesman finally wished the French government and people success in their efforts to host the games decently and securely.

According To Iran News, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has thanked Iran for its support to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games due to coronavirus.

In a letter to head of Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), Reza Salehi Amiri, Bach has shown gratitude after Iran supported the decision.

“Thank you for your letter of support for the IOC’s decision to postpone the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 which I highly appreciated. As you are aware, this postponement comes after many complex but fruitful conversations with the Japanese Government and Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee. This decision demonstrates our clear commitment to put the health of the athletes first,” said Bach in the letter.

“Naturally, your athletes will have many operational questions in relation to the postponement and therefore I would ask for your indulgence whilst the IOC team works through the details with our Japanese partners. Let me assure you that all your questions will be answered.

“I am deeply touched by your support and confidence. I am convinced that by working together, the Olympic Movement can master this new unprecedented challenge. Humankind currently finds itself in a dark tunnel. These Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 can be a light at the end of this tunnel.

“Thanking you again for your continued confidence and wishing you and your family good health and all the very best,” he said.

Earlier on the day, Chinese Taipei defeated Palestine 3-0.

Chinese Taipei will meet the Philippines in what looms as a crucial Matchday Two clash on Saturday, while Iran will look to keep its now slender hopes alive against Palestine.

In the final round, the successful sides of Group A, B and C, will join Australia, DPR Korea, Korea Republic, China PR and Thailand in two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the play-offs.

The two winners from the play-offs will then qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with host and reigning Asian champion Japan.
