TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran May Turn Into a Fuel-Importing Country in 10 Years. Secretary-General of Iran’s Oil Refinery Industry Contractors Association warned overconsumption of gasoline in the country and said if it is not controlled, in ten years Iran will become a fuel-importing country.

Speaking at a press conference, Nasser Ashouri said that Iran became self-sufficient in petrol and diesel fuel supplies in 2018 and continues to do so.

Ashouri said that refineries which are responsible for supplying domestic fuel needs and the feed for lower industries have been working in three shifts to keep pace with the increasing demands.

However, he added that they have given proposals to the new administration in Iran to set up mechanisms to manage consumption so that there wouldn’t be need to import fuel in the future. He reiterated that if the fuel consumption is not managed, then Iran will become an importer of gasoline in 10 years.

Iran’s refinery industry produces over 100 million liters of petrol in an annual basis, but the non-optimized consumption pattern leads to consumption of over 90 million liters in the country, according to Ashouri.

He also noted that Iran’s domestic capacity in this area is in a position that continuance of U.S. sanctions would have no impact on it, but the need for future planning is necessary for the years to come.

Touching upon the construction of refinery to meet the national demands, he said if the country pursues construction of refinery, it needs enough forex and rial and it takes six years for its construction, adding that so it is better for the country to reform and manage the fuel consumption of vehicles and to boost CNG fuel in the cars.

Ashouri also pointed to the Persian Gulf Star project and said some reforms have been done in the phase 4 of this refinery and the production capacity has increased from 160,000 barrels to 400,000 barrels and it is supposed the capacity to reach 440,000 barrels. He added that construction of a 120,000-barrel unit is in the pipeline and it is currently in the designing stage.

On exporting gasoline and oil products, he said that the association is just a producer and the government decides exports based on its policy but the association produces 40 refining products for the domestic companies both as feedstock and for exports which are offered through the mercantile exchange.

He admitted that refineries in the country are old and their maintenance costs very much, adding that but if these refineries were not, provision of feedstock would have been impossible due to the sanctions.

Ashouri went on to say that refineries are national asses and they should be upgraded and their problems should be resolved because refineries should live and worth with the most capacity.

The commercial director of Tehran Oil Refining Company, more than 13,000 types of rotating and fixed refining parts and equipment are made by domestic products after identifying knowledge-based companies, Oil Ministry’s official website, Shana, reported on Saturday.

According to Mohammad Reza Khalili, a number of catalysts needed in the refineries have been produced for the first time in the country based on international standards and with the support of the technical and engineering experts of Tehran Oil Refining Company.

“After successful testing of these catalysts and their production in the country, we have become self-sufficient in the production of various types of refining catalysts,” he stressed.

Khaliki added spare parts of pumps, turbines, compressors, generators, converters, coolers, towers and containers, internal parts of cooling towers and valves which were also among items manufactured by Iranian companies.

He said the items were made in line with the aim of supporting the Iranian suppliers and the policy of reaching self-sufficiency in construction of items and equipment to realize the economy of resilience.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela announced the capture of “an American spy” with heavy weapons and money near two refineries in the state of Falcon.

The man is said to be a Marine who worked for the CIA in Iraq.

The spy was trying to collect information on the refineries in Amuay and Cardon, Maduro said in a televised address on Friday. The two facilities are located on the Paraguana Peninsula, along the Venezuelan coast just south of Aruba.

According to the president, the detained American is a member of the US Marine Corps who worked with the CIA in Iraq, and was captured with “heavy, specialized weapons and a large amount of cash.”

Maduro added that he ordered heightened security at all Venezuelan refineries after the spy was captured. Earlier, he said, the country’s Petroleum Ministry discovered and thwarted a plan “to cause an explosion” at the El Palito refinery in Carabobo, west of Caracas, RT reported.

It is a war of revenge by the gringo empire to prevent Venezuela from producing all petroleum derivatives and gasoline

Maduro accused the US of waging an economic war against Venezuela, trying to destroy the country’s oil industry. “They have reached a level of madness,” he said.

Washington has accused Maduro of being a “dictator” and recognized opposition politician Juan Guaido as “interim president” back in January 2019. Despite the support of the US and most Latin American states, however, Guaido has failed in repeated attempts to take power in Caracas.

The US oil embargo has hit Venezuela hard, reducing its exports to lowest levels since 1943 and only rising slightly in August due to special purchases from India. The US has confiscated any property of the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA and redirected it to the coffers of Guaido and his supporters.

The Bank of England likewise blocked Caracas from accessing some $1 billion in gold stored in its vaults, with British judges ruling it rightly belonged to the US-backed politician instead.

Two former members of the US military have already been detained in Venezuela earlier this year. Employees of the Florida-based mercenary outfit Silvercorp, former US Army Special Forces operators (‘Green Berets’) were captured in May, after trying to cross from Colombia. They admitted they were trying to abduct Maduro and install Guaido as president. One of them, Luke Denman, later told Venezuelan TV that Guaido had “greatly misled” them about the situation in Venezuela.

The US government denied any knowledge or involvement in the operation. So did Guaido, insisting he had “no link, commitment or responsibility to Silvercorp or its actions.” Earlier in May, however, the Washington Post had published a 41-page contract between Guaido and Silvercorp referring to him as “commander in chief.”

Denman told the Venezuelan authorities the company’s executives had met with Guaido while he was visiting the White House. He and the other Green Beret, Airan Berry, were sentenced last month to 20 years in prison over the plot.
