TEHRAN (Iran News) The National Intelligence Service said in a statement that Russian navy ships transferred 1,500 North Korean special operation forces to the Russian port city of Vladivostok from October 8 to October 13. It said more North Korean troops are expected to be sent to Russia soon.

The North Korean soldiers deployed in Russia have been given Russian military uniforms, weapons and forged identification documents, the NIS said. It said they are currently staying at military bases in Vladivostok and other Russian sites such as Ussuriysk, Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk, and that they will likely be deployed to battle grounds after completing their adaptation training.

The NIS posted on its website satellite and other photos showing what it calls Russian navy ship movements near a North Korean port and suspected North Korean mass gatherings in Ussuriysk and Khabarovsk in the past week, the AP reported.

South Korean media, citing the NIS, reported that North Korea has decided to dispatch a total of 12,000 troops formed into four brigades to Russia. The NIS said it could not confirm the reports.

The NIS has a mixed record in finding developments in North Korea, one of the world’s most secretive countries. If confirmed, the move would be North Korea’s first major participation in a foreign war. North Korea has 1.2 million troops, one of the largest standing militaries in the world, but it hasn’t fought in large-scale conflicts following the 1950-53 Korean War.

Russia has earlier denied using North Korean troops in the war, with presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov describing the claims as “another piece of fake news” during a news conference last week. North Korea’s state media hasn’t commented on the issue.

North Korea and Russia, locked in separate confrontations with the West, have sharply boosted their cooperation in the past two years. The US, South Korea and their partners have accused North Korea of supplying artillery shells, missiles and other conventional arms to Russia to help fuel its war on Ukraine in return for economic and military assistance. In June, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a pact stipulating mutual military assistance if either country is attacked.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Hossein Zanjani discussed the developments related to the Korean peninsula and the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon and Gaza with senior officials of the North Korean Foreign Ministry,

In this meeting, the two sides emphasized condemning the criminal actions of the Zionist regime, which are carried out with the direct support of the United States.

They also discuss the topics of mutual interest and the ways to expand relations between the two countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, North Korea blew up certain sections of two inter-Korean highways on its side of the border.

“North Korea has detonated parts of the Gyeongui and Donghae roads north of the Military Demarcation Line at around noon,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea reported, as quoted by the Yonhap agency.

The South Korean military has stepped up surveillance and readiness, the ministry said.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry said on Friday that South Korea had flown drones over Pyongyang three times since last week — on October 3, 9, and 10 — to distribute leaflets, calling the move a military provocation and a violation of its sovereignty.

The South Korean military has denied the reports of sending drones to North Korea, saying nothing of the sort happened.

Earlier, it was reported that the General Staff of the North Korean Army said that North Korea would carry out work to block and cut off all roads and railways connecting its territory with the “main enemy” South Korea from October 9, and would fortify defensive structures, which it notified the American troops about in order to avoid clashes.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has hosted a Chinese delegation, where the two sides vowed to “steadily develop the friendship and comradery cooperation onto a new high stage,” the North’s KCNA news agency reported.

The Chinese delegation, led by Communist Party Politburo official Li Hongzhong, made the trip to Pyongyang to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.

It was the first visit by Chinese officials since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The KCNA said it was “reaffirmed at the talk the stand of the parties and governments of the two countries to cope with the complicated international situation on their own initiative.”

Both China and North Korea view the increasing presence and interference of the United States’ military in the region as a threat to peace and security.

North Korea has tested a record number of ballistic missiles this year in response to the rising number of war games and live fire drills that the U.S. is conducting with South Korea, which Pyongyang considers as rehearsals for the invasion of its territory.

Washington’s decision to dispatch a nuclear-armed submarine to the Korean Peninsula for the first time in four decades, which arrived in the South Korean port city of Busan on July 18, saw the North responding with the test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The South Korean Defense Ministry said in a statement that Washington and Seoul intend to “strengthen their special warfare capabilities”.
The U.S. increased tensions further last week by sending a second nuclear-powered submarine to the South.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has unveiled a weapons aid package worth up to $345 million to separatist forces in the Chinese province of Taiwan, a move that angers Beijing.

The U.S. Congress authorized up to $1 billion worth of Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) weapons aid for Taiwan.

Four sources have told Reuters the package was expected to include at least four American MQ-9A reconnaissance drones.

China is strongly opposed to American military and diplomatic support for Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing considers an integral part of its territory and views U.S. support for separatist forces as attempts to contain the second – soon to be first – economy in the world.

Beijing has repeatedly demanded the U.S., Taiwan’s main arms supplier, to end the sale of weapons to the island.

The formal announcement did not include a list of weapon systems being provided.

China has long sought the peaceful reunification with the island but has not dropped the use of force from the table.

Foreshadowing the upcoming aid, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on May 16 told a Senate panel: “I’m pleased that the United States will soon provide significant additional security assistance to Taiwan through the Presidential Drawdown Authority that Congress authorized last year.”

Earlier this month, the top U.S. general said the United States and its allies need to speed up the delivery of weapons to Taiwan in the coming years.
The PDA has been used on an emergency basis to expedite security assistance to Ukraine by allowing the president to transfer weapons from the U.S. stockpiles.
Experts say the meeting between the North Korean leader and a Chinese delegation comes on a very important day marking the 70th anniversary of the signing of the armistice on the Korean Peninsula after the U.S. invasion in June 1950 in what was a very deadly war.

The U.S. remained in the South and partitioned the country. Efforts by the North to reunify have been thwarted by the U.S. ever since, especially by completely militarizing the Asia-Pacific. Experts believe it has reached a stage where North Korea and China feel they need to cooperate and that Beijing will help the North’s economy develop, which will be welcomed by the majority of countries in the region.

While former South Korean government of President Moon Jae-in sought a diplomatic solution to the crisis on the Peninsula by taking some historic steps, the current government of President Yoon Suk Yeol is seeking a forceful approach to the anger of Pyongyang.
A considerable percentage of people in South Korea prefer diplomatic approach with the North as evidenced by the protests against joint military drills with the United States.
Anti-U.S. rallies are not something rare in the South over the years, where protesters are wary that growing military ties with America could lead to the possibility of another conflict on the peninsula.

The protests are almost always ignored by the U.S. news coverage, which tends to have a strict policy of focusing on North Korean “threats” instead.

The China-North Korea meeting came a day after Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu made a rare trip to Pyongyang where he held talks with his North Korean counterpart on the sidelines of the ceremonies marking the end of the Korean War.
Those ceremonies included the North showcasing its latest and advanced equipment in a military parade.
Russia announced that Shoigu spoke with North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam while hailing traditionally close ties between the two nations and remarked that his trip comes as Pyongyang celebrates “the 70th anniversary of the victory… in the Great Fatherland Liberation War,” adding that the Korean People’s Army prevailed “over a strong and cruel enemy.”
The 1950-53 Korean War is considered as one of the bloodiest conflicts in modern history, with an estimated three million casualties on both sides.
While Seoul and Pyongyang never signed a peace treaty, an armistice established a demilitarized zone, dividing the Korean peninsula in two.

“I am convinced that today’s talks will help strengthen cooperation between our defense departments,” Russian media cited Shoigu as saying.
North Korea is among the many countries that have refused to follow an unprecedented U.S.-led sanctions campaign against Russia in response to its “special military campaign” in Ukraine.

The majority of the international community has refused to take sides and have been calling for a peaceful resolution instead. The U.S.-led NATO military alliance has been accused of prolonging the conflict at the expense of Ukrainian people.

The U.S. administration of President Joe Biden, in particular, is seeking to see the war dragging on until the next presidential election as wartime presidents in America tend to rarely lose at the ballot boxes.
International concern is now growing as NATO is seeking to extend its military presence to the Asia-Pacific.

*****************H
Both China and North Korea view the increasing U.S. military presence in the region as a threat to peace and security.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – armed North Korea has confirmed it has test-fired two more rounds of weapons this week saying the missile launches were successful.

According to North Korean media, the two latest “surface-to-surface tactical guided missiles” had been fired from a coastal area on Thursday and were armed with a conventional warhead.

North Korean Media say the missiles “precisely hit the target” and noted the “explosive power” of the conventional warhead, saying “the practical combat performance of the long-range cruise missile system would hold a reliable share in boosting the war deterrence of the country”.

KCNA also confirmed Tuesday’s launches were two long-range cruise missiles that the North had first tested in September.

“The two missiles flew for more than two hours and 35 minutes and demonstrated an ability to strike targets 1,800 kilometers (1,118 miles) away, a performance that underscored their value in boosting the war deterrence of the country,” the agency said.

Experts say the latest series of launches are the highest number of missiles test-fired by North Korea in a single month as Pyongyang begins 2022 with a rattling display of new and sophisticated weapons.

On Thursday, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had detected the launch of what Seoul said it presumed were two ballistic missiles from near Hamhung, on the east coast of North Korea. The Joint Chiefs of Staff said they had traveled for about 190 km and reached an altitude of 20 km.

The latest launches are the sixth round of tests the North has carried out this month and have drawn condemnation from the United States.

A few weeks ago, Pyongyang said it will be bolstering its defenses against the U.S. and consider resuming “all temporally-suspended activities”, in what analysts have said is an apparent reference to a self-imposed moratorium on tests of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

Earlier in the month, North Korea tested tactical guided missiles, two “hypersonic missiles” capable of high speed and maneuvering after lift-off, and a railway-borne missile system.

Analysts have pointed out that some of the tests are aimed at developing new capabilities, for the most part, to evade missile defenses, while other tests are planned to give an idea of the preparedness and ability to adapt to different scenarios.

Analysts have also noted that the aim is to display some of Pyongyang’s missile forces that North Korea has already deployed.

Leader Kim Jong Un has called on the North Korean military to counter threats from the United States and its regional allies.

This week, state media said Kim had visited an unidentified “important” munitions factory, underscoring his vow not only to improve capabilities but mass-produce and deploy more weapons.

State media also says Kim has called on the military to boost the country’s strategic military forces as he observed the test of a hypersonic missile, officially attending a missile launch for the first time in nearly two years.

The KCNA news agency reported that
after watching the test, Kim urged military scientists to “further accelerate the efforts to steadily build up the country’s strategic military muscle both in quality and quantity and further modernize the army,”.

Unlike some other recent tests, the ruling party’s newspaper Rodong Sinmun has published photos of Kim attending the launch on its front page.

Analysts say while Kim may have unofficially attended other tests, this appearance and its Page One feature on Rodong Sinmun means he is not concerned about being personally associated with tests of major new technology and does not care how Washington interprets this.

Many analysts say North Korea has every right to advance its military defensive capabilities just like any other country and that the heavy American military presence on its borders are the destabilizing factor.

So far this month, North Korea said it tested a new type of hypersonic missile on January 5 and again on January 11, with Kim Jong Unreported to have attended the second launch.

Hypersonic weapons usually fly towards targets at lower altitudes than ballistic missiles and can achieve more than five times the speed of sound – or about 6,200 km per hour.

Despite their name, analysts say the main feature of hypersonic weapons is not speeding but their maneuverability, which help evade missile defense systems.

On January 14 North Korea launched a pair of short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) from a train near the northern border with China, in what state media said was a short-notice drill aimed at boosting the proficiency of the troops operating the missiles.

North Korea first tested the rail-based system in September, saying it was designed as a potential counter-strike to any threatening forces.

According to analysts rail-mobile missiles are an efficient option to improve the survivability of nuclear forces, making it difficult for enemies to detect and destroy them before being fired,

Experts say the missiles appear to be KN-23 SRBMs, which were first tested in May 2019 and are designed to evade missile defenses by flying on a lower, “depressed” trajectory,
North Korea fired another pair of KN-23 missiles, this time from a wheeled launching vehicle.

State media said the tests confirmed the “explosive power” of its conventional warhead.

On January 17, North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) in a rare test from an airport in its capital, Pyongyang.

According to state media, the pair of missiles “precisely hit an island target” off the east coast. Analysts said the missiles appeared to be KN-24 SRBMs which were last tested in March 2020 and appear to have entered mass production and deployment with military units.

Talks aimed at denuclearization have stalled after the United States wanted Pyongyang to abandon it nuclear and missiles program first in exchange for sanctions relief afterward. North Korea says it is open to diplomacy but only if the United States and its allies stop “hostile policies” such as sanctions or military drills.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A US surveillance aircraft flew over South Korea on Saturday, an aviation tracker said, days after Seoul said North Korea has killed a South Korean official drifting at sea.

The US Air Force’s surveillance aircraft, E-8C, or JSTARS, was spotted in the skies over the metropolitan area of South Korea, Aircraft Spots tweeted. The aircraft last flew over the country earlier this month.

The South Korean military said the communist country shot a fisheries official who was adrift in its waters to death and incinerated his body Tuesday. He went missing the previous day while on duty near the Yellow Sea border island of Yeonpyeong, Yonhap news agency reported.

Following the incident, the South Korean military tightened its defense readiness posture near the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de facto inter-Korean maritime border.

Pyongyang admitted to the shooting and apologized Friday but claimed it set an object the official used to stay afloat on fire, not his body.

The flight also appears to have monitored North Korea’s military movement ahead of the 75th founding anniversary of its ruling Workers’ Party that falls on Oct. 10.

Satellite imagery and other multiple signs indicate that Pyongyang is preparing for a large-scale military parade in Pyongyang next month.

As a platform for airborne command and control, surveillance and reconnaissance, the E-8C is known to be capable of closely monitoring the movements of North Korea’s troops and equipment, including missiles and artillery guns.

According to Aircraft Spots, the US Navy’s EP-3E surveillance plane also conducted missions near South Korea’s capital areas Friday.

The US also sent the C-146A Wolfhound aircraft from the Kadena Air Base in Japan to the Korean Peninsula on Friday, another aviation tracker, No callsign, tweeted.

This aircraft transports small teams of the US Special Operations Command. It can carry a maximum of 27 individuals or 2.7 tons of cargo, according to the US Air Force.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for prevention efforts against the novel coronavirus and a typhoon, state news agency KCNA said on Wednesday.

An enlarged meeting of the politburo of the Workers Party took place amid a pandemic that is putting additional pressure on the North Korean economy, battered by recent border closures and flood damage.

The meeting assessed “some defects in the state emergency anti-epidemic work for checking the inroads of the malignant virus”, KCNA said in a statement.

North Korea has not reported any confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, but Kim said last month that the virus “could be said to have entered” the country and imposed a lockdown after a man was reported to have symptoms. Later test results on the man were inconclusive, according to the World Health Organization, Reuters reported.

Kim had this month lifted a three-week lockdown in the city of Kaesong after a suspected case of the coronavirus there.

The meeting discussed state emergency measures on preventing crop damage and casualties from Typhoon Bavi, which is expected to hit the country within days, KCNA reported. Heavy rain and flooding have raised concern about food supplies in the isolated country.

The ruling party had said it will hold a congress next year to decide a new five-year plan, after a party meeting noted serious delays in improving the national economy and living standards.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Russia calls upon the UN Secretariat to investigate leaks of confidential expert reports about the compliance with UN Security Council sanctions on North Korea, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said.

“We regret that the confidential report of the UN experts on the DPRK is likely to be leaked to the press again and strongly condemn such practices which may have serious consequences,” Polyansky said, TASS reported.

“Russia calls on UN to investigate every such incident and prevent them,” he added in the remarks on leaked reports on North Korea.

A similar statement was issued by the Chinese embassy to the UN.

“China requests the Secretariat to take this issue seriously and avoid leakage in the future,” Chinese diplomats said in a statement. “China has been completely and strictly implementing DPRK-related resolutions of the Security Council, and faithfully fulfilling its international obligations.”

Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing a confidential report of independent UN experts, that, according to certain nations North Korea continues to pursue its nuclear weapons program and probably developed nuclear devices to fit ballistic missiles. Reuters did not specify the states that came forward with those assertions.

North Korea is currently under the strictest set of international sanctions. The UN Security Council’s Resolution 2397 passed in 2017 stipulates new restrictions on supplies of crude oil. Countries were required to expel all North Korean workers by the end of 2019. The restrictions came as Pyongyang continued developing ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Daily NK has obtained video footage showing North Korean soldiers putting up new fencing near Hyesan recently amid the country’s efforts to strengthen control over the border to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Although (the authorities) have taken strong measures to close the border due to the virus، smuggling and border crossing attempts continue،” a source in Yanggang Province told Daily NK over the phone on July 29. “The installation of extra wire fencing to crack down on such behavior has been ongoing since the beginning of July.”

North Korea closed the Sino-North Korean border in January to prevent the spread of COVID-19، and authorities have been conducting stronger crackdowns on what they view as “illegal behavior.” Smuggling and other illegal activities still continue in the border region despite these efforts.

The authorities appear to have begun installing new metal fencing in areas with a lot of smuggling and “river crossings.” Daily NK’s source pointed out، however، that the new fencing is woefully inadequate to effectively stamp out illegal behavior.

“The authorities have ordered the military to eliminate smuggling، but there are too many places where people can secretly receive illegal goods،” the source told Daily NK، adding، “There is no way that installing wire fencing can completely stop smuggling or river (border) crossings.”

According to the source، North Koreans living near the border with China cross the border and turn to smuggle as an important way to make a living، which means that the authorities will have a hard time eradicating these activities. The source also pointed out that the newly-installed fencing is really “poor in quality.”

“Most of the wire fencing in border regions is made from ordinary string wire looped together،,” the source said، noting، “There are no barbs) in the wires)، so they are easy to lift by hand or cut with tools.”

The video obtained by Daily NK (below) showed that the newly-installed wire fencing was so thin that it literally “swayed in the wind.” The soldiers installing it also had no qualms about touching the wires، perhaps because of the lack of barbs.

Barbed wire or concertina wire (coiled barbed wire) is usually used on fences that aim to prevent the movement of people or animals. The barbed wire contains sharp edges while the concertina wire is made by bending barbed wire into a coiled shape.

The North Korean soldiers putting up the wire fence in the video appear to be using “unsuitable” materials – perhaps because of the lack of materials needed to build a strong barbed-wire fence. Daily NK’s source suggested that the installation of the new wire fence may just be “for the show” and intended to simply “follow orders” rather than actually prevent illegal activities from occurring.

“Before COVID-19، North Korea used steel wire purchased from China for fencing، and some of it had barbs،,” the source told Daily NK. “Ever since trade has ground to a halt، they are now using thin steel wire threaded together.”

The quality of the fencing is so poor that it will “snap if you pull it with your hands،” he pointed out، adding، “(The military) appears to be doing the bare minimum to comply with orders from the Party.”

North Korean authorities have stressed that the border must be completely locked down ever since they announced that a defector suspected of being infected with COVID-19 crossed the inter-Korean border recently.

As the report from Daily NK’s source in the country suggests،, however, ، there still appear to be “holes” in the border.
