“US should stop isolating itself and adapt to new global realities,” Zarif added.

“International commerce and power are shifting: neither Economic Terrorism against China and Iran, nor exiting INF Treaty with Russia will reverse that,” he said.

Zarif suggested on May 26 signing a non-aggression pact with Persian Gulf littoral states during his trip to Iraq. The suggested plan highlights that security in the region would be achieved via cooperation of all regional countries and a desirable and stable regional discipline is obtainable without interference of foreign countries. The plan can become operational step by step in case of building confidence among regional countries.

Some speculations indicate that Oman and Iraq are likely trying to ease tensions between Tehran and some Persian Gulf states. In this regard, Iran’s Ambassador to Kuwait also announced on July 30 that some countries have accepted to join Iran’s proposed non-aggression pact.

In addition to that, it was announced that a joint Iran-UAE Coast Guard meeting had been held in Tehran after six years and some reports indicated that two UAE banks have announced their readiness to cooperate with Iran.

Russia and Qatar also welcomed the proposal in June.

Safavi also maintained that all foreign vessels in the Persian Gulf are in the firing range of Iranian missiles.

“Americans know all too well that their military force is within the range of Iranian missiles. In the Persian Gulf, the whole American and foreign fleets are within the range of IRGC’s coast-to-sea missiles, which can reach to over 300km,” he said.

Safavi then voiced Iran’s readiness to sign a non-aggression pact with neighboring countries.

“We pursue a non-aggression strategy with our neighbors. Recently, Foreign Minister Zarif proposed to sign a non-aggression agreement with neighboring countries. My suggestion is to sign the pact with some countries and form a coalition with some others,” he added.

Safavi then voiced hope that regional countries would stop thinking of Iran as the enemy and instead focus their attentions on their real enemies, namely the US and the Israeli regime.

According to Sputnik, he also said that Zarif’s suggestion was in line with a “well-known and old” Russian initiative to create a “security concept” for the Persian Gulf, which would include Arab states, Persian Gulf states and Iran.

The Russian foreign minister added that no common stand had been formulated during discussions of this initiative.

“I believe that anyway we should move on toward creating such a concept, such a security system, and we should start with easy steps, such as being transparent about military matters, inviting each other to take part in drills and elaborating other measures aimed at boosting trust,” Lavrov said.

He stated that Russia would like to see the League of Arab States, the European Union, the United Nations as a whole and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council as the guarantors of this security system.

In a joint press conference with Iraqi President Barham Salih in Baghdad on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran is inclined to be in a balanced relationship with all the Persian Gulf littoral states and is ready to sign a non-aggression pact with them.
