]]> TEHRAN – Five cultural figures were selected to compete for the title of the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year, the Art Bureau announced in a press release published on Saturday.

The nominees are writer Hamid Hesam, painter Hassan Ruholamin, filmmaker Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, graphic designer Mohammadreza Doostmohammadi and documentarian Mehdi Naqavian.

A jury composed of sixty members nominated Hesam for “When the Moonlight Was Missing”, a book which carries the memories of veteran Ali Khoshlafz who was seriously wounded in the 1980-1988 Iran–Iraq war.

Ruholamin was selected for his paintings of the Islamic and religious topics such as “The Sky Fell Down”, a large painting depicting the last moments of the life of Imam Hussein (AS).

Mahdavian was nominated for “The Midday Event”, a political drama that features the terrorist atrocity of the Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization in Iran of the 1980s.

Naqavian received the nomination for his “Out of View”, a documentary series focusing on the unrest that erupted after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the winner of the June 12 presidential election in 2009.

The winner will be announced on the last day of the Islamic Revolution Art Week, which will be held in Tehran from April 9 to 16.

]]> TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani submitted the names of his nominees for the two remaining cabinet posts to the parliament two months after all his proposed ministerial picks except one managed to win the vote of confidence from the lawmakers.

In a letter to Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Saturday, Rouhani proposed Reza Ardakanian and Mansour Gholami for the positions of the minister of science, research and technology and the energy minister respectively.

On August 20, all the ministerial nominees, except the one for the Energy Ministry, managed to win the vote of confidence from the parliament.

Habibollah Bitaraf failed to win a vote of confidence after 133 lawmakers from a total of 288 opposed him.

The position of minister of sciences, research, and technology has also been vacant.

President Rouhani had submitted the list of his ministers to the parliament on August 8, four days after his swearing-in ceremony.
