TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said that Iran’s after accomplishing an objective of increasing non-oil exports to 15 neighboring countries by two-fold to counter the US bans on its oil sale.

Nobakht said on Monday that non-oil exports to 15 neighboring and near countries should reach $48 billion in the next Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2020-March 20, 2021), adding that hitting the target was necessary given Iran’s urgent need to new foreign currency revenues as normal crude sale has been affected by American sanctions.

He said that Iran had been effectively deprived of around $50 billion a year in oil sales income, adding that non-oil exports should compensate for that loss.

“Based on the targets set, we (have to) bring the non-oil exports to $48 billion from the $24-billion that we currently have,” he said, adding that setting the target had been agreed earlier in the day in a meeting involving high-profile government officials.

Iran has been under a series of US sanctions since last year when Washington unilaterally withdrew from an international agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The sanctions have specifically targeted the sale of oil as the United States seeks to force Iran to change its position on key foreign policy and security issues.

Authorities in Tehran admit that sanctions have affected Iran’s exports although they insist the bans have caused a boom in other sectors of the economy.

Bulk of Iran’s non-oil exports, especially those shipped to 15 neighboring and near countries, consists of petrochemical products derived from oil.

The new target set for exports mainly relies on a massive expansion of Iran’s petrochemical sector over the past few years. Authorities said in September that petchem exports would increase nine-fold to reach $93 billion in 2025.

Early in this month, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdolnasser Hemmati in an Instagram post said despite the United States’ growing sanctions against Iran, his nation’s economy is moving forward in areas of trade, including both oil and non-oil exports.

“Brian Hook: Iran’s oil exports reached 120,000 barrels per day,” Hemmati wrote on his Instagram page.

The CBI governor noted that the US has imposed new sanctions on imports and exports in construction sector, adding that the US together with 6 regional states has sanctioned 25 individuals or entities.

Last month, President of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization Hamid Zadbum announced that Iran’s non-oil exports had witnessed a 22.5% increase in terms of weight in the first half of the current local calendar year (March 21-August 21) compared with the corresponding period in the last year, showing a steady rise in resistance against the United States’ economic sanctions.

Iranian exports saw a rise of 22.5% in weight in the last six months (March 21-September 21) in comparison to the same period last year, said Zadbum in the central city of Kashan.

He mentioned that Iran’s machine-made carpet exports are gaining in value and weight, noting that the country is trying to regain the lost market to other international competitors.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a gathering of traffic police officers in Tehran on Saturday, Nobakht said the US economic sanctions against Iran and its move to “wage an unequal inhumane war” on the Islamic Republic triggered difficult conditions in Iran.

Following the US government’s decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and re-impose cruel sanctions against Iran, the topic of economic indices in Iran attracted attention, he noted.

“Efforts are underway to weather the tough conditions in cooperation with one another, to meet the society’s demands and to move towards development,” Nobakht added.

Tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since US President Donald Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May 2018 and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

US officials have repeatedly claimed that they aim to cut Iran’s oil exports to zero.

Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.

He said the US policy is to levy “maximum economic pressure” on the country.

The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect in November 2018.

Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the American officials who have reneged on the international 2015 nuclear deal approved by the United Nations Security Council do not deserve to negotiate with the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to reporters during his weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Nobakht rejected the possibility of any renegotiation of the nuclear deal with the US following President Donald Trump’s recent move to leave the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Prior (to the decision), Trump was willing to hold talks with us; however, with whom are we to negotiate? Are we to negotiate with the ones who renege on official agreements approved by the UNSC?” he said.

“No, the Americans do not deserve to sit at the negotiating table with Iranian delegates,” the spokesman added.

He further pointed to the US plots against Iran over the past 40 years and said since 2011, Washington has imposed massive sanctions against Tehran but it has failed to cripple the Islamic Republic’s economy.

In a speech from the White House on May 8, Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the 2015 agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, provided that they ensure full benefits for Iran.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has underlined that any decision to keep the deal running without the US should be conditional on “practical guarantees” from the three European parties to the JCPOA.

“Certainly the awake conscience of the world is monitoring the crimes of the Zionist regime, a regime which has claims while speaking but in practice pays no respect to the minimum of human rights,” said Iranian Cabinet Spokesperson Mohammad Bagher Nobakht on Tuesday.

He made the remarks at a presser touching upon the recent incidents in the international arena including the US embassy move to Jerusalem al-Quds and Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear agreement of July 14, 2015.

“The first thing that happened in the past couple of days was the illogical and apolitical decision of Trump for leaving the JCPOA which was immediately responded by the Iranian president,” recounted Mr. Nobakht.

“The other incident is the big bloody crimes of the usurping regime which are committed with full-fletched support of US in Palestine. In the past couple of days this regime has killed 59 and wounded 2771 Palestinians,” highlighted Mr. Nobakht, condemning the violent crackdown of protests in Palestine.

“In addition to condemning these crimes, the Islamic Republic of Iran expects the international community and especially the United Nations Security Council to be proportionately responsive to these measures of the Zionist regime with strong supports from US,” he underlined.

He condemned the attack, adding “reports so far indicate that the British police apprehended the few people trespassing on the Iranian embassy several hours after the attack. This shows that the British police have failed to observe the international law.”

Nobakht further vowed that Iran’s response to the incident will be decisive.

Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht reiterated the country’s policy not to negotiate with foreigners about its missiles power saying that no country has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic.

“Our defense capabilities are nobody’s business,” Nobakht told reporters during his weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

Iran has heard no little “nonsense” over the past 40 years, he said, referring to anti-Tehran remarks made by hegemonic powers since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy is based on interaction,” he said, adding, however, that the country would never accept any bullying.

Iran has always stressed that its military might and test of missiles are issues pertaining to the defense of its territorial integrity and have nothing to do with other matters, the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany), known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran has also underscored frequently that its military might poses no threat to other countries and that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

Since the JCPOA came into force in early 2016, the US has been seeking to link the deal to Iran’s missile program.

US President Donald Trump, who has called the JCPOA the “worst deal ever negotiated”, has called for renegotiating it to address what he calls concerns about Iran’s missile capabilities.

The Islamic Republic has underlined that the nuclear agreement is not renegotiable under any circumstances.

TEHRAN – Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht announced that the administration has allocated some $267 million to assist thousands of nationals affected by the recent deadly earthquake that hit western Iran.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday, Nobakht said the administration approved to allocate $187 million in loans and an $80 million government grant to the quake-stricken people.

He added that about $7,000 have been allocated to each household in rural areas in need of reconstruction, and $10,000 have been allocated to each household in urban areas.

The $187 million in loans would be paid by the Central Bank of Iran and the $80 million government grant would be paid by the Plan and Budget Organization (PBO), the spokesman said.

The latest statistics show 474 people have been killed and 9,388 others injured in Iran by Sunday night’s earthquake, whose epicenter was near Halabjah, southeast of Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah.

In a statement on Monday evening, the Iranian government expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and declared Tuesday as a day of mourning across the country.

The province of Kermanshah had earlier declared three days of mourning.

Hit hardest by the quake, the province has received dozens of rescue teams from across the country to search for the survivors stuck under the rubble and save the wounded.

Head of the country’s Emergency Medical Service said on Tuesday morning that the rescue and relief operation and the transfer of the injured in Kermanshah had almost finished.

President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday visited the areas worst hit by the earthquake and got updates on the rescue operations.

TEHRAN – Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht praised the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps for its vital role in the country, warning the US that any hostile measure against such an anti-terror organization would further reveal Washington’s support for terrorism.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Nobakht lauded the IRGC as an official and vital organization in Iran that plays a crucial role in the country’s defense power.

He took a swipe at the US government for its plan to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, saying a realistic view affirms that the IRGC is fighting against terrorism and safeguarding the Iranian nation.

The world and humanity should be grateful to the IRGC for combatting terrorism, the spokesperson added.

If the US moves to designate the IRGC as a terrorist group, it will undoubtedly put itself in the list of terrorists, Nobakht concluded.

In comments on Sunday, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said if speculations about the US administration’s “stupid decision” to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization are true, the IRGC will in turn treat the US military around the world, particularly in the Middle East, as Daesh (ISIL) forces.
