TEHRAN (Iran News) – The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, denounced before the UN General Assembly the aggression in the media, political and economic spheres implemented by the United States against this South American nation.

When intervening in the high-level debate of the 75th session of the multilateral organization, the president highlighted the resistance of the Venezuelan people to the effects of the unilateral coercive measures adopted by Washington as part of its policy for regime change, Prensa Latina reported.

Maduro asserted that the Bolivarian State was stripped of more than 30 billion dollars in assets abroad, in addition to suffering the intensification of the persecution of commercial operations in order to deprive the country of essential goods to guarantee social welfare of the population.

The head of state also rejected the support given by Washington to direct armed aggressions and terrorist plans against the South American nation, such as the frustrated paramilitary incursion of last May 3, called Operation Gideon, organized in Colombia with the advice of US personnel.

The United States must abandon the old practice of criminalizing those of us who do not subordinate ourselves to its designs in this world and maintain a policy of independence and sovereignty, Maduro asserted, calling the North American country the most significant threat to world peace.

Despite the permanent hostility of the US government and its allies, the president of Venezuela reiterated the commitment to promote respect for human rights, as well as the will to strengthen dialogue and international cooperation for the prevention of conflicts.

Likewise, he ratified the will to guarantee the health of the Venezuelan people in the face of the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, which – he stressed – accentuated the existing inequalities in the world due to neoliberal policies.

In this sense, Maduro emphasized Venezuela’s call to work for a new world geopolitics based on cooperation, solidarity, multilateralism, international law, aid and international support.

He also proposed the creation of a revolving fund for public purchases in the United Nations System to guarantee access to food and health products, financed with public resources, to allow access to these resources to the most disadvantaged nations affected by blockades. And discrimination.

The Venezuelan president recognized the efforts of countries such as Russia, China and Cuba, in confronting the pandemic and in the creation of an effective and safe vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

It also demanded the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the Cuban people, reiterating that it supports the call of the United Nations to stop the implementation of unilateral coercive measures.

Venezuela: Past, Present and Future

Americans after suffering consecutive defeats in the Middle East, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, today is facing a rising power in the South America that yesterday through making political and economic hype, it failed to bring down this rising phenomenon, Venezuela, which has almost been soaked by the rain of resistance maturity in the region.

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

Yesterday all pressures were focused on a point that was the source of all independence-seeking movements in the region and the U.S. tried its best to push back this move to its starting point and to dry up the grounds for materialization of anti-capitalist revolutions in the continent which is attributed to the U.S. and some in its neighborhood.

In almost past three years, the White House, led by President Donald Trump, has constantly stepped up its economic sanctions against Venezuela and has condemned Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and in fact it called on Venezuelan people to topple Maduro’s government which is actually an anti-U.S. government and source of materialization of interests of anti-capitalists of the U.S. type in this half of the continent. But Iran and Venezuela hand in hand thwarted all seditions and plots one after the other.

Since January 5, 2019 when Juan Guaido became the president of National Assembly of Venezuela, he actively tried to make Venezuela’s military and international communities recognize him as Venezuela’s legitimate president.

After President Trump’s recognition of Guaido as Venezuela’s President, Brazil, Colombia, Canada, Peru and Chile also recognized Guaido as legitimate president. Of course, Guaido with support of Trump in a speech addressing his supporters in the east of Caracas said, “I swear to take charge as the caretaker president of Venezuela till to topple this usurper government.”

But where does he stand today and where does Venezuela stand? Today Venezuela’s economy is moving on course to produce gasoline domestically and to solve its economic problems as a leading country in the continent. Tomorrow the story is totally different. Tomorrow Venezuela will be Iran’s counterpart in the continent because Maduro thinks of making its military independent and he wants to boost his country’s military power and capability.

This week and reacting to his Colombian counterpart’s claim that Caracas intends to buy missiles from Iran, Maduro welcomed the idea. During a televised broadcast with cabinet members, instructing Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino to follow up and jokingly telling his cabinet to keep the plan a secret, noting, “It had not occurred to me.”

In order to herald his ambition to neighboring states, supporters and opponents, he said “What a good idea, to speak with Iran to see what short, medium and long range missiles they have, and if it is possible, given the great relations we have with Iran.”

Earlier the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in Caracas had announced that Iran was on the verge of finalizing a trade deal with this Latin American state. Last week, a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of restoration of ties between Iran and Venezuela was held in Caracas with senior Venezuelan officials and Iran’s ambassador in presence. Iranian officials have not reacted to Maduro’s remarks on buying missiles from Iran. But regarding this point that political relations between both states are progressing on course to the growth of resistance culture, undoubtedly the Islamic Republic of Iran’s response, if it is officially received, would be positive.

Venezuela has actually been the U.S.’s backyard in the Latin-speaking countries and it is still, but since creation of motivation, it has provided Iran with appropriate ground for promoting the criteria for intensifying resistance against anti-justice capitalism.

Iran and Venezuela hand in hand will make the future of the Latin America and this motivation will provide the ground for weakening Washington.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he’ll be the first to get vaccinated when a COVID-19 vaccine arrives in the country.

“I am pleased that Russia will be the first country in the world to vaccinate its population”, Maduro said in a televised speech on Sunday, Sputnik reported.

“There will be a time when we all get vaccinated and the first to be vaccinated is me. I’m going to get the vaccine, I’m going to set an example”, he added.

Maduro said the government would then vaccinate healthcare workers, elderly people, and those with health conditions.

He went on to accuse the United States of blocking supplies of medicine to Venezuela, singling out Donald Trump’s special envoy, Elliott Abrams.

“They persecute us”, he added. “We are going to buy medicines against the coronavirus and they persecute us, they call the company and tell them, ‘Don’t sell the vaccine to Venezuela’”.

Last Tuesday, Russia became the first country to register a vaccine against the coronavirus. The vaccine, called Sputnik V and developed by the Moscow-based Gamaleya research institute, uses two strains of the adenovirus – which typically causes mild colds – to trigger an immune response.

Sputnik V promises to help people develop immunity against COVID-19 for two years. Health workers are the first to be vaccinated and a national roll-out is scheduled for January 2021.

Russia’s sovereign wealth fund (RDIF) said it had received preliminary applications for more than 1 billion doses of the vaccine from 20 countries

Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov, Russia’s ambassador to Venezuela, said last week that the Maduro government has shown interest in acquiring the vaccine.

He stressed, however, that it is too soon yet to name a specific timeframe for delivery because unilateral US sanctions stall the process.

Venezuela on Sunday reported 1,148 new coronavirus cases and 5 new deaths, bringing the total number of infected patients to 33,755 and the total death toll to 281, according to government figures.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Nicolas Maduro endorsed Luis Parra as the new Speaker Sunday to legalize the new leadership of the parliament.

“The National Assembly held a session in the parliament building in accordance with the constitution. A new leadership was elected, consisting of the opposition, with parliamentarian Luis Parra at the head,” Maduro told a news conference broadcast by Telesur television.

According to Nicolas Maduro, “opposition parliamentarians rose against” the former parliamentary leadership and ex-Speaker Juan Guaido, Tass reported.

Earlier, Parra, who is Guaido’s rival, declared himself head of the chamber. Part of the opposition rejected this, saying the session had no necessary quorum. Guaido himself accused the country’s authorities of preventing parliamentarians from entering the building of the National Assembly, where the speaker was to be elected. The National Assembly called the developments as a parliamentary coup in its Twitter account.

Shortly after that, US Acting Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Michel Kozak, said that Washington continued seeing Juan Guaido as interim president of the republic. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza blasted this statement, lashing out at “blatant meddling” of the US authorities in the domestic affairs of the country. “They don’t quite realize that we are an independent and sovereign country,” he blogged in Twitter.

The political crisis in Venezuela exacerbated on January 23, 2019, when Juan Guaido, Venezuelan opposition leader and parliament speaker, whose appointment to that position had been canceled by the country’s Supreme Court, declared himself interim president at a rally in the country’s capital of Caracas. Several countries, including the United States, most of the EU states, Lima Group members (excluding Mexico), Australia, Albania, Georgia, and Israel, as well as the Organization of American States, recognized him as president.

Incumbent President of the country Nicolas Maduro, in turn, blasted the move as a coup staged by Washington and said he was severing diplomatic ties with the US. In contrast, Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, Iran, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Syria, and Turkey voiced support for Maduro.

Maduro Says US, Colombia Preparing Provocation

According To Iran News, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he had information that Colombia and the United States were planning a provocation on the Bolivarian Republic’s western border and called on all staff of the country’s armed forces to be prepared for battle.

“I have information that Colombia, together with the US Southern Command are planning to launch another provocation at the Venezuelan border with Colombia. All staff of Venezuela’s armed forces must be combat ready”, Maduro said on Friday during his meeting with the country’s transportation employees broadcast via Twitter, Sputnik reported.

The president added that the provocations served to incite a military conflict on the Venezuela-Colombia border in order to draw attention away from the protests taking place in Colombia.

Back in September, Maduro announced large-scale military exercises on the country’s western border with Colombia, saying its neighbor presented a level orange security threat.

The two neighboring nations regularly accuse each other of supporting anti-government forces.

The political crisis in Venezuela intensified earlier in January when merely two weeks after Maduro’s inauguration for his second term, opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself “interim president” and called on citizens to help him take power in the country.

Guaido immediately received support from the United States and some Latin American countries, including Colombia, while Maduro accused him of trying to stage a coup in Venezuela with the help of the US.

He also accused Bogota of being behind the plot to overthrow and assassinate him.

While Guaido was endorsed as “president” by the US and Colombia, a number of countries, including Russia and China, have said they only recognize Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.

“All of Venezuela, in a civic-military union, repudiates and rejects the statements of Donald Trump about a supposed quarantine, a supposed blockade,” Maduro said adding that Venezuelan seas would remain “free and independent.” The Venezuelan president said he had asked the country’s ambassador to the United Naitons Samuel Moncada to denounce the US threats to the UN Security Council, Tass News Agency reported.

Venezuela faces a massive economic crisis which is further exacerbated by US sanctions. In a letter to UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Maduro said that the United States stripped Venezuela of its oil assets worth $30 bln. Moreover, over $7 bln in banks meant for purchasing food and medicines, were frozen or seized, Maduro added. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry described US sanctions as “economic terrorism” that “deprives Venezuelan people of their right to have access to food.”

Juan Guaido, Venezuelan opposition leader and speaker of the National Assembly, whose appointment to that position had been canceled by the country’s Supreme Court, declared himself interim president at a rally in the country’s capital, Caracas, on January 23. On the same day, the United States recognized him as an interim president, and the countries of the Lima Group (excluding Mexico) and the Organization of American States followed suit. Venezuela’s incumbent President Nicolas Maduro blasted the move as an attempted coup and announced cutting diplomatic ties with the United States.

Most European Union member states recognized Guaido as Venezuela’s interim president. Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, Iran, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Syria and Turkey voiced support for Maduro.

“US attempts to topple the legitimate government of Venezuela have become a clear illustration of international law violations,” Tass News Agency quoted the Russian diplomat telling the ministerial meeting at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordination Bureau in Caracas.

“Economic terror has been unleashed against the legitimate government of Venezuela. The legitimate government’s property was persistently transferred to the self-proclaimed acting president. The capabilities of the financial, oil and mining sectors have been seriously limited by the introduction of sanctions,” Ryabkov noted.

According to the Russian diplomat, the Venezuelan economy suffered losses amounting to over $100 billion as a result of those actions. However, the majority of the international community members chose not to notice them, he added.

Ryabkov reiterated that the Venezuelan government’s legitimacy was “out of question.”

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said in his inaugural speech that outside forces were seeking to topple the legitimate governments of Venezuela, as well as of Syria, Iran, North Korea and Cuba.

“Venezuela – just like Cuba, Iran, Syria, Nicaragua and North Korea – has fallen victim of interventionism, of foreigners who are seeking a transition of power to governments that serve their interests,” he said.

Arreaza added that Venezuela has always spoken in favor of the peoples’ right to peace. “Our nations have the right to determine their future without outside pressure,” he said.

Venezuela has been going through an acute social-economic crisis in the last several years, accompanied by hyperinflation and currency devaluation. This year the situation has been further complicated by the escalation of the confrontation between the government and the opposition.

The political situation in Venezuela escalated after Juan Guaido, Venezuelan opposition leader and parliament speaker, whose appointment to that position had been cancelled by the country’s Supreme Court, declared himself interim president at a rally in the country’s capital of Caracas on January 23.

The United States, Lima Group members (excluding Mexico), the Organization of American States and some European countries recognized him as the interim president. Subsequently, Venezuela’s incumbent President Nicolas Maduro blasted these actions as an attempted coup and said he was cutting diplomatic ties with the United States. Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, Iran, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Syria and Turkey voiced support for Maduro.

“Its content is deeply harmful to the dignity of the Venezuelan people and the truth of the human rights situation in Venezuela,” Anadolu quoted Nicolas Maduro as saying in a letter penned on July 11 to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.

The report said Maduro and his security forces are committing “gross violations of human rights” against the Venezuelan people and his government’s special forces “killed at least 5,287 people in 2018 and, at minimum, another 1,569 by mid-May 2019”.

The report came after Bachelet paid a three-day visit to Venezuela on June 24 to evaluate the human rights situation in the country.

Referring to Bachelet, Maduro said that “unfortunately, it is quite clear that you did not listen to Venezuelan people…You have presented a report fraught with false statements, distortions and manipulation of data and sources”.

“A report that lacks balance and rigor, openly biased that — while presenting a distorted account of the human rights situation in our country – does not reflect the information and data provided by the State but that of the trite media narratives imposed by the imperial media hegemony,” he said.

In the letter, Maduro also denied that his government is a “dictatorship”.

“Can a political project legitimized 23 times at the ballot box in the last 20 years be called a dictatorship?

“Can a government be called a dictatorship that in a Constitution voted by the people, gave for the first time rights to the indigenous people, children, women, elderly and that had made visible and empowered the impoverished majority and disfranchised minorities?” Maduro said.

Condemning the report’s content, the Venezuelan leader demanded that “the grave mistakes, false accusations and omissions” be rectified and corrected.
