Iran Reports: 279 Deaths, 4,830 New Cases in 24 Hours

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian Health Ministry has confirmed 4,830 COVID-19 infections and 279 deaths due to the disease in the past 24 hours.

Iran’s Health Ministry Spokesperson Sima Lari made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that the number of total coronavirus cases in the country has so far reached 513,219 with the death toll standing at 29,349.

According to Lari, 4,609 patients are in critical condition while 414,831 patients have recovered.

So far, 4,398,723 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, she added.

According to the latest figures, more than 38,4 million people have so far been infected with the novel coronavirus globally, with the deaths standing at 1,092,040 and recoveries amounting to 28,887,167.

Some 3,000 New Coronavirus Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Nearly 3,000 new coronavirus cases have been detected in Iran during the past 24 hours, more than half of whom have been admitted to the hospital, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Wednesday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 410,334 following the detection of 2,981 new cases over the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 1,726 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,827 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 23,632, saying the disease has taken the lives of 179 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 352,019 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Lari also noted that more than 3,641,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 29.7 million and the death toll has exceeded 940,000.

Highest New Coronavirus Cases Recorded in Past Days

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Health Ministry reported 2,152 new coronavirus cases from Sunday to Monday, the highest daily infections in 10 days, bringing the total number of infections to 388,810.

Iran’s Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said on Monday that the death toll from the novel coronavirus rose by 117 to 22,410,

She said that at least 335,572 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,733 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She also noted that more than 3,406,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

Since late February, Iran has been struggling to contain the country’s COVID-19 outbreak, the deadliest in West Asia.

Iran closed schools, canceled public events and banned intercity travel in March. The government, however, began to progressively lift restrictions in April to gradually reopen its sanctions-hit economy.

On Saturday, Iran opened the new school year after nearly seven months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that education will not be closed in the country even under the worst situation.

Education and health are equally important to society, he said, but added that parents would not be forced to send their children back to school.

Several medical professionals have voiced concern over the reopening of schools and universities in Iran.

However, Iran’s Education Minister Mohsen Haji-Mirzaei defended the government’s decision to reopen schools, saying that there is no alternative to face-to-face education.

He said that face-to-face education is better than other types of education in terms of quality.

Haji-Mirzaei noted that a hiatus in education will pose a psychological risk to students and society in the future.

Israel Records 1,700 New Cases of COVID-19 in 24 Hours

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Israel recorded another 1,786 infections from the novel coronavirus, a report said.

According to Anadolu Agency, the total count of cases in the occupied Palestinian territories has so far risen to 70,582, including 509 deaths, since the virus was first detected on Feb. 21.

A total of 43,813 people have so far recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

On Friday, 1,786 news cases were registered, the report said.

Anger has been rising in Israel over the regime’s response to the virus.

Since it originated in China last December, over 17.7 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with the death toll at nearly 682,000, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.

Iran: 1,194 new cases, 94 dies of COVID-19 on Wednesday

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 85,996, of whom 5,391 have lost their lives to the coronavirus, according to Iran’s Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said on Wednesday.

Some 1,194 new cases have tested positive with the virus in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of infections in Iran to 85,996 since the outbreak, said Jahanpour, adding that 63,113 patients suffering from the novel coronavirus have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far.

Unfortunately, 94 coronavirus patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 5,391, he noted.

Some 3,311 patients are in critical condition, said the Health Ministry spokesman.

As of Wednesday, coronavirus has infected 2,573,747 million people around the world, claiming the lives of 178,564 people. Some 701,884 patients have also recovered from the respiratory disease so far.

China Reports 46 New Coronavirus Cases

TEHRAN (Iran News) – China reported on Saturday a rise in new coronavirus cases, as authorities try to head off a second wave of infections, particularly from imported and asymptomatic cases, as curbs on cities and travel are lifted.

The National Health Commission in China said 46 new cases were reported on Friday, including 42 involving travelers from abroad, up from 42 cases a day earlier.

In its statement, the commission added that 34 new asymptomatic cases were reported, down from 47 the previous day.

Mainland China’s tally of infections now stands at 81,953. The death toll rose by three to 3,339.

Tough curbs imposed since January helped rein in infections sharply from the height of the pandemic in February. But policymakers fear a second wave triggered by arrivals from overseas or asymptomatic patients.

Northeastern Heilongjiang recently reported a spike in new cases because of Chinese nationals entering the province from Russia, which has seen a surge of cases.

Provincial health officials said it had 22 new imported cases on Friday, all Chinese nationals coming from Russia, and one new local case, in its capital of Harbin.

Inner Mongolia had a daily tally of 27 new imported cases by Saturday morning, all from Russia, the region’s health authority said, Reuters reported.

The central province of Hubei, where the virus emerged late last year, reported no new cases for a seventh successive day.

A rise in virus infections has prompted authorities in Guangzhou to step up scrutiny of foreigners, ordering bars and restaurants not to serve clients who appear to be of African origin, the US consulate in the southern city said.

Anyone with “African contacts” faces mandatory virus tests followed by quarantine, regardless of recent travel history or previous isolation, it said in a statement.

It advised African-Americans or those who feel they might be suspected of contact with nationals of African origin to avoid the city.

Since the epidemic broke out in the provincial capital of Wuhan, it has spread around the world, infecting 1.7 million people and killing more than 102,000.

Coronavirus new cases in 24 hours: 85,230

TEHRAN (Iran News) – In the past 24 hours, countries around the world have reported a total of 85,230 new cases of coronavirus, which brings the total number of infections since its outbreak to 1,203,090.

According to the latest reports, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the world since its outbreak in Wuhan, China, now stands at 1,203,090, of whom 64,743 have died and 246,753 have recovered.

206 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances have been reporting new cases of coronavirus infection since then.

The United States has the highest number of reported infections, recording 278 new cases in the past 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases in the country to 311,635, of whom 8,454 have lost their lives to the virus.

Italy has the highest total death toll, with 15,362 dying of the disease there, followed by Spain at 11,947. The number of infected cases in the two countries stands at 124,632 and 126,168, respectively.

Germany (96,092), France (89,953), and China (81,669), where the virus originated, are the next countries with the highest number of infections.

Following that is Iran, with the total infection cases at 55,743, of whom 3,452 have died and 19,736 recovered as of Saturday.
