TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy on Wednesday received 188 new naval drones and helicopters, including three unmanned aerial vehicles unveiled for the first time.

In a ceremony in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday morning, the IRGC Navy commander said the new drones are capable of taking aerial images of fixed and mobile naval targets in combat operations.

According to Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, all IRGC Navy operations are now carried out with homegrown drones as the new aircraft have joined its fleet.

Three drones have been unveiled for the first time, namely Sepehr vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone, Shahab-2, and Hodhod-4 VTOL drone.

The IRGC Navy commander said the three new drones can take off from naval vessels.

Another drone that joined the IRGC Navy’s fleet was Mohajer-6, an all-weather pilotless aircraft with a range of 200 kilometers and designed to carry a payload of 4 missiles.

The other new products include two amphibious helicopters and four combat choppers armed with missiles.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Back in February 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The commander of Iran Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy says the country has increased the range of its naval missiles to 700 kilometers without any assistance from other countries.

“There was a time when the farthest range of our naval missiles did not exceed 45 km and even that was achieved with assistance from American military advisors,” Brigadier General Alireza Tangsiri said in an interview on Monday.

“However, we have developed subsurface and surface-to-surface missiles with a range of 700 kilometers, which have been totally made by domestic military elites,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Tangsiri emphasized that foreigners are the source of insecurity in the region and said, “Wherever the Americans have been present, insecurity has followed and we know of nowhere [in the world] where the presence of the Americans has led to security.”

He pointed to a recent naval incident between the IRGC’s Navy and the US warships in the Persian Gulf and said, “The Americans in this adventurism blocked the way to our vessels in violation of international regulations and even refrained from giving a radio response, but were faced with our forces’ strong move.”

Tangsiri noted that the presence of the Americans in the Persian Gulf has led to a large increase in the number of maritime incidents, adding, “Since the arrival of the Americans in the region, 550 oil tankers have been targeted [in various attacks] and regional security has been decreased by 55 percent.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the United States Navy claimed that 11 Iranian ships repeatedly came close to its military vessels in “dangerous and harassing approaches” in the Persian Gulf.

It alleged that the Iranian “vessels repeatedly crossed the bows and sterns of the US vessels at extremely close range and high speeds,” and came within 10 yards of the US Coast Guard cutter Maui.

In response to the US claim, the IRGC Navy issued a statement on Sunday, saying the main source of mischief and insecurity in the region is the illegal presence of US terrorist forces, reiterating the call for the full withdrawal of all American forces from the Persian Gulf and West Asia.

“In order to prevent the continuation of illegal, unprofessional, dangerous and even adventurist behavior of the American terrorists and also to ensure security for Iranian vessels and fight fuel smuggling, the IRGC Navy increased its marine patrols in the Persian Gulf and on Farvardin 27, 1399 [corresponding to April 15, 2019] … dispatched a group of its vessels, comprised of 11 boats, to the region, where they came face to face with the American warships and military vessels,” it added.

Iranian vessels, usually belonging to the IRGC, commonly patrol the Persian Gulf to ensure the security of the vital global energy hub.

Tensions in the strategic waterway rose significantly last summer after a series of mysterious explosions targeted a number of oil tankers.

The United States, quickly blaming Iran for the incidents without providing conclusive evidence along with other countries such as Saudi Arabia, has since deployed thousands of troops and military equipment to the region.

“Loads of speed boats will be delivered to the IRGC Navy by the yearend (March 21, end of the Iranian year) and we are also preparing a number of vessels for the Law Enforcement Police’s coast guards,” General Rastegari said in an interview with the state radio on Wednesday.

He also said that the home-made destroyer, Dena, will be delivered to the Iranian Navy by the yearend, adding that the vessel enjoys different equipment, including 3D phased-array radar, ground-to-ground and ground-to-air missiles, safe integrated telecommunication system, highly advanced electronic warfare system and pin-pointing defense system.

In relevant remarks earlier today, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced that his forces would be equipped with Dena destroyer within the next two months.

“God willing, we will witness addition of the destroyer, Dena, to the Navy in (the Iranian month of) Bahman (January 21 to 19 February),” Rear Admiral Khanzadi told reporters in a press conference held in Tehran on Wednesday to mark the national Navy Day (November 28).

He also noted that Sahand, another destroyer which joined the Navy last year, is now ready for missions in the ocean, and further expressed the hope that Taftan warship would be delivered to the Naval forces next year.

“Concurrently, we will witness the launch of a mine-clearing warship, Saba, in the Navy as well as a drone, namely Simorq, which has a flight durability of 24 hours and capability to carry different types of weapons, including bombs, rockets and projectiles.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian Navy is equipping two destroyers with vertical launch systems (VLS) and is planning to install the system on all frigates in the future, Navy Commander Hossein Khanzadi announced on Saturday.

“The operations of installing VLS on Dena and Damavand destroyers are underway, and the systems will be tested in the near future,” Mehr quoted Khanzadi as saying.

Referring to remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution who has insisted on enhancing defense capabilities in all areas, including the strategic marine sector, the rear admiral said such developments will not be limited to Damavand and Dena.

“All Navy destroyers will be operating with installing VLS in the future.”

VLS is an advanced system for holding and firing missiles on mobile naval platforms, such as surface ships and submarines.

“The Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army is the protector of the country’s territorial integrity and its interests in the seas; therefore, we have so far dispatched 64 fleets to international waters to defend the country’s interests,” Khanzadi said earlier this month.

“In addition to the fleets that made occasional voyages to the region in the past, there are two fleets, 63 and 64, which have a permanent presence in the Red Sea all the way to Suez Canal to provide security for our shipping lines,” the Navy chief explained.

Back in October, an Iranian oil tanker, called the Sabiti oil tanker, came under attacks by two missiles fired from an unknown location in the Red Sea.

Commander of Iranian Army’s Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi inaugurated the new headquarters in the southern Iranian city on Thursday. As news relate, Army’s Navy HQ moved to Bandar Abbas recently.

He said that the plan to move the Navy’s headquarters started some years ago with the guidance of the Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Khamenei so that the force would be closer to operational zones.

“A significant part of Navy HQ elements will be transferred [to Bandar Abbas] and the naval forces will be led with an increased focus,” he said.

Khanzadi said the fact that Army’s Navy HQ moved to south “will increase the speed of operations and will allow the Navy to have more focus on waters.”

He noted that the measure will have various cultural, social, and economic effects in the region and will turn into a great capacity for the people of Hormozgan province. Capacities of the Navy will be accessible to local people which is a great development, he said.

Currently, three buildings with an area of 26,432 square meters have been established as the headquarters of Navy in Bandar Abbas in an area as big as 8,500 ha.
