According to Hossein Shiva, NITC has awarded the construction of the mentioned vessel to Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex (ISOICO) and the official deal on this due will be signed soon, NITC Public Relations and International Affairs Department reported.

Shiva said his company has awarded the mentioned project to a domestic firm in line with the emphasis of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyed Ali Khamenei and the realization of the current year’s motto which is “Production: Support and the Elimination of Obstacles”.

“At the request of the National Iranian Tanker Company, the vessel will be the first domestically built dual-fuel oil tanker to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and low-sulfur Mazut,” he explained.

The Aframax tanker, which is environment-friendly and will be designed and built according to the latest standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), will also be in full compliance with phase three of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), according to the NITC head.

Shiva stated that the construction of this tanker inside the country is going to create job opportunities for several thousand people and will lead to the development of the country’s shipbuilding and other related industries.

He also mentioned his company’s determination for conducting the overhaul operations of the company’s fleet inside the country and specified: “So far, the repairs of 24 tankers and submarines have been entrusted to domestic companies, which is aimed at supporting domestic industries and creating jobs in the country.”

The official further noted that NITC is also supplying the necessary materials for the mentioned projects including paints, oils, and chemical products from domestic sectors, which has also saved the country a significant amount of money.

The performance of the National Iranian Tanker Company and round-the-clock efforts of the sailors of the company’s fleet in transporting oil and oil products have been in the center of attention of the country’s authorities these days, as it has been appreciated by the oil minister and also welcomed by other members of the cabinet.

Earlier this month, Oil Minister Javad Oji had praised NITC’s performance in boosting the country’s oil exports.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – National Iranian Tanker Company, NITC, has undertaken to overhaul 10 oil tankers since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21), the company’s managing director told Mehr news agency.

Nasrollah Sardashti also announced that two tankers have been already dry-docked for overhaul and as scheduled seven or eight more oil tankers will be overhauled by the yearend.

In this way, NITC will finish the overhaul operation of 20 oil tankers in the current Iranian calendar year, while the company had previously announced that the plan for this year is overhauling 12 tankers.

“We have not sent any tanker outside the country for overhaul in the present year”, Sardashti further emphasized.

In late July, the company successfully finished the overhaul operation of supertanker “DORE” after a month.

According to Sardashti, Iranian technicians managed to repair the oil supertanker “DORE” inside the country for the first time in the history of Iran’s shipping industry.

“Engines, generators, and electrical appliances all have been repaired and stained and will not require major repairs for the next five years,” Sardashti said.

In late June, the 320,000-ton oil supertanker DORE was successfully dry-docked in Bandar Abbas at Iran ISOICO to go through an overhaul for the first time inside the country.

DORE belongs to the national Iranian oil tanker fleet and is a “giant oil tanker” with a length of 333 meters.

It was the first time that the repair and maintenance services of a super oil vessel are assigned to a domestic repair yard.

According to NITC Technical Advisor Ali Mansourzadeh, before this Iranian technicians had successfully completed the overhauling and maintenance operations of a variety of smaller vessels in a 6-month period, including MARIA 3 tanker with a capacity of 13,600 cubic meters, POLARIS with a capacity of 45,000 tons, and ARK and ARGO each with a capacity of 100,000 tons.

However, due to some technological limitations, the repair operations of supertankers like DORE was carried out in foreign countries.

It was announced on May 2 that Saudi Arabia’s coast guard rescued an Iranian oil tanker with engine trouble off the coast of Jeddah in the Red Sea after Riyadh received a request for help from Iran.

So far, over $ 10 million has been paid to the port of Jeddah for maintenance costs by Iran.

Saudi officials have prevented the Iranian ship to leave the port despite the fact that Iran has paid all the costs, which is 7 to 8 times more than regular costs.

Saudi Arabia has reportedly asked the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) for an additional $ 200,000 cost per day for maintenance reasons.

On the one hand, two Iranian ships that were dispatched to Jeddah to return the oil tanker to Iran, have not been able to carry out their mission due to lack of cooperation on the part of Saudis and their stay there cost NITC about $ 30,000 per day.

On the other hand, the crew of the oil tanker has been in a difficult condition since May 2, and has not been allowed to leave and return home.

Without a doubt, the Saudi actions in preventing the Iranian oil tanker to return home is in contradiction with the legal principles (including maritime law) and can be considered ‘illegal seizure of a country’s property.

Accordingly, not only should the Saudis allow the Iranian ship to return to Iran, but also they have to pay the payments back to the NITC for imposed maintenance of the vessel in their waters.

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt issued a statement on Friday blaming Iran and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps for the attacks. He claimed no other state or non-state actor could have been responsible. The UK official, however, did not present any evidence for his claim.

In a late Saturday meeting with the British ambassador, Assistant Foreign Minister for Europe Mahmoud Barimani conveyed Tehran’s strong protest to the British government’s “unfounded allegations” and “unacceptable” anti-Iran stances.

The Iranian official said the accusations have been levelled without any proof, saying such remarks by Hunt are in line with Washington’s position.

“In the [closed-door] meeting of the UN Security Council last Thursday, no one but the UK accepted the unsubstantiated accusation levelled by Washington,” Barimani pointed out, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

“Even many well-known media outlets rejected the claim by America and Britain, citing statements by the crew and authorities at the company which own the tankers,” he said.

The Iranian official demanded an explanation from the British side for the accusations and called on the UK to rectify its position.

“The popular reactions against Britain emanate from such approaches adopted by this country in support of American officials’ unfounded allegations about different issues, including the issue mentioned above,” he stated.

He urged the British government to adopt realistic stances in conformity with the realities of the policies adopted by Iran and the need for London to revisit its approach.

The British ambassador, in return, said he would immediately inform London of Tehran’s stance.
