The acclaimed movie is about Abdul-Hamid Rigi, the younger brother of Abdul-Malik Rigi, the founder and leader of the Jundallah terrorist group in southeastern Iran, who marries Faezeh Mansuri, a woman from Tehran. He forces Faezeh to leave her homeland along with her brother, Shahab, to live in Pakistan where they find themselves involved in Jundallah terrorist activities.

The film won Crystal Simorghs in six categories, including best film and best director, at the 37th Fajr Film Festival in February.

“The Indian” by Nima Javidi about a prison warden who is assigned to transfer prisoners to a new building during the 1960s, and “We Are All Together” by Kamal Tabrizi, a comedy with an all-star cast about passengers who survive a plane crash, are among the films.

The selection also includes Qorban Mohammadpur’s “The Devil’s Daughter”, a movie with a cast of Iranian and Bollywood actors.

The film is about Satan’s daughter who intends to repent. She is first asked to find an innocent man to bow down to until her repentance is accepted. Satan’s daughter descends to search for the man.

“Snake Venom” by Javad Razavian and “Mr. Censorship” by Ali Jabbarzadeh will also hit the silver screens across the country.

In a letter sent to the COI, the association has said that the institution is ready to help the organization in rating movies.

A council composed of experts in various fields is scheduled to begin rating Iranian movies this summer based on an age-based ratings system, which was announced on April 30, Darughezadeh said.

According to the ratings system, “Movies having inappropriate words and scenes are forbidden for children under nine.”

Films with cigarette-smoking characters, “inappropriate language and violence, or horror scenes” are forbidden for children under 12

In addition, people under 15 are not allowed to watch scary movies and films with strong language and violence, drug abuse scenes, and relationships that violate common law.

People under 18 are not allowed to watch movies with strong language, extreme violence, drug abuse and marriage relationship scenes.

Based on the system, movies are not allowed to depict scenes promoting ethnic, racial, gender and religious discrimination.

According to the new regulations, film distributors, movies theaters, movie streaming sites and movie ticket booking sites must inform people of the ratings of movies onscreen.

Disregard for the regulations by the relevant organizations will be prosecuted, the Cinema Organization of Iran noted.

“Pig” by Iranian filmmaker Mani Haqiqi has won the Golden Amphora (Amphore D’or) at the 7th Fifigrot Film Festival, which took place in the French city of Toulouse last week, the organizers announced.

The film is about Hassan, a filmmaker who has not been able to make any films recently, but his popular starlet can’t wait any longer and wants to leave and work with another director. His wife no longer loves him. His daughter has grown up and feels independent. His elderly mother is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. A disturbingly beautiful woman tracks him everywhere he goes and wants him to give her a role in his films.

Worse yet, a murderer is killing directors of Iranian cinema in the city, but he has ignored Hassan. Now he is despondent: isn’t he the most important filmmaker of the city? Why then doesn’t the murderer care about him? The situation becomes more intolerable when Hassan is accused as the prime suspect for the murder cases on the social networks. Now he is forced to concoct a clever plan to rebuild his destroyed reputation.

The movie stars Hassan Majuni, Leila Hatami, Leili Rashidi, Parinaz Izadyar and Ali Baqeri.

The People’s Amphore at the Fifigrot Film Festival was presented to “The Invisibles” by Louis-Julien Petit from France, and the Amphorette was awarded to the short film “Petite Avarie” by Léo Hardt and Manon Alirol from France.

The festival ran from September 14 to 23.

“Meta Marathon” by Saeid Keshavarz, “Meeting” by Reza Majlesi and “The Rock” by Hamid Jafari will be screened in two different sections of the festival, which will take place in Yerevan and the beautiful village of Ujan from September 15 to 21.

“Meta Marathon” will be competing in the feature section. The film narrates the story of Qodratolloh Bayat, a young working man living in his modest village, boasting that he can break the world and Olympic marathon record. He joins a marathon competition held in the town and prepares a team to film his victory.

“Meeting” and “The Rock” will be competing in the short film category.

“Meeting” depicts the difficult everyday life of an elderly rural woman, full of hard work, and the traditions of her village on the threshold of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The Rock” is about a woman in southern Iran who goes to the mountain near her village every day, breaks up rocks, puts the stones on a truck and makes a living from it for her family.

About 20 documentaries from Germany, France, Norway, Ukraine and several other countries will be competing in the festival.

Iranian filmmaker Shahram Badakhshanmehr is a member of the festival jury this year.

His docudrama “Slowly” won the festival’s grand prix in the feature-length competition in 2017.

He will be judging the films along with German film director Wieland Speck and Armenian historian-anthropologist Hranush Kharatyan.

TEHRAN – Manijeh Hekmat narrates a story about sexual assault and the culture of silence in Iran in her latest movie “The Abandoned Road”.

The film premiered in the official competition of the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Tehran on Friday.

The film is about a woman employee who is kidnapped and raped on the way back to her home.

“The main storyline revolves around the culture of silence that is aged as long as Iranian history, but this issue is more harmful in modern society,” Hekmat said in a press conference after the premiere of her film.

“The second issue of the film is rape and it would result in a rape tsunami if all Iranian women didn’t break their silence and not publicize the issue,” she added.

Hekmat and her film’s stars, wearing black the press conference, associated what had occurred at the Golden Globes red carpet in solidarity with the Time’s Up campaign to fight sexual harassment in the workplace.

However, she refused to comment about the resemblance and said that they will have a surprise for people in the special programs arranged for the public screening of the movie.

A poster for “The Abandoned Road”, which was published last week, bears #MeToo inscriptions in various sizes.
