Iran Condemns Motion Against Syria in OPCW

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian ambassador to the Netherlands described a recent Western-backed motion against Syria in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as “unacceptable, unbalanced, and politically-motivated”.

Alireza Kazemi Abadi underlined that the move is a step toward politicizing the organization and sowing discord among its members, IRNA reported.

On April 8, the new investigations by OPCW team claimed that the government of Syria used sarin and chlorine in aerial attacks on the village of Lataminah in Hama Province in March 2017, in which dozens of people were killed.

Damascus has accused the OPCW of twisting facts in order to groundlessly blame the Syrian government.

The Iranian envoy also described the formation of the OPCW’s investigations team as “illegal” and criticized the team’s “biased and untrue” report.

The motion condemned Syria’s use of chemical weapons and expressed “deep concern” that the 2017 attacks showed Damascus had failed to declare and destroy all its chemical weapons, according to AFP.

The executive council of OPCW voted overwhelmingly to tell Syria it must declare all details about the facilities used to produce the sarin and chlorine used in the 2017 attacks.

Russia, China, and Iran voted against the decision at the OPCW’s executive council, which includes 41 of the UN-affiliated body’s 193 member states.

Lawmakers Pass Anti-Israeli Bill

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s lawmakers ratified a bill on Monday to counter the hostile measures of the Zionist regime of Israel.

In an open session of the Parliament on Monday morning, the Iranian MPs passed the motion against the Zionist regime’s hostile activities by a unanimous vote.

By ratifying the bill, the lawmakers agreed on the formation of a virtual Iranian Embassy in Palestine.

The new law also bans the use of hardware manufactured by the Zionist regime, bans the activities of software platforms owned by the Israeli regime, and bars all-natural and legal persons, organizations, and companies affiliated with the Zionist regime from attending Iranian exhibitions and gatherings.

The new law also defines the punishment for cooperation with Israeli-linked institutions and stipulates that traveling to the occupied territories by Iranian nationals will carry imprisonment and passport deprivation up to 5 years.

The Parliament also assigned the Iranian Prosecutor General to lodge a complaint against the Zionist regime’s leaders in international tribunals for a whole host of crimes, such as their crimes against humanity, war crimes, genocide, acts of aggression, and terrorist activities inside and outside the occupied territories.

The Iranian lawmakers also determined the punishment for espionage for the Israeli regime, tasked the Foreign Ministry to pursue plans for the political initiative on holding a national referendum in the Palestinian territories, and defined the duties of all Iranian organizations to reveal the anti-human nature of the Zionist regime.
