]]> The first session of the third year of the City Council after the fifth elections back in May 2017 was held on Sunday morning.

In a ballot during the meeting, Mohsen Hashemi was chosen to remain as the chair of the Council with 18 out of 21 votes in his favor.

Ebrahim Amini was also reinstated with 17 votes as the vice-chairman of the Council, an influential municipal body that appoints the mayor of Tehran.

Councilors Zahra Nejad-Bahram (16 votes) and Bahareh Arvin (14 votes) also remained as the secretaries of the board of directors for the third time.

Meanwhile, Ali A’ta was elected with 20 votes as the spokesman of the Council for the next two years.

Hassan Rasouli was elected as the treasurer of the City Council with 20 votes.

 Chairman of City Council of Tehran Mohsen Hashemi, referring to the anniversary of the Sanchi oil tanker tragedy and the death of 32 crew members on board, said a street in the capital will be named after Sanchi victims.

Speaking on the 112th session of Tehran City Council, Hashemi said “the Council’s naming committee will review the request by National Iranian Tanker Company to name a street in Tehran after Sanchi victims.”

The Sanchi oil tanker collision occurred on 6 January 2018 when the Panamanian-flagged, Iranian-owned tanker Sanchi, with a full natural-gas condensate cargo of 136,000 tonnes (960,000 barrels), sailing from Iran to South Korea, collided with the Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship CF Crystal 160 nautical miles (300 km) off Shanghai, China. Sanchi caught fire shortly after the collision; after burning and drifting for over a week, it sank on 14 January.

None of Sanchi’s 32 crew members survived.

The Chinese freighter CF Crystal crew’s error and carelessness and redirecting it towards the Iranian oil tanker was announced the main cause of Sanchi oil tanker incident.

The Tehran City Council on Sunday has reinstated Mohsen Hashemi as the chairman for the second consecutive year with a unanimous vote.

The first session of the second year of the City Council after the fifth elections back in May was held on Sunday morning.

In a ballot in the meeting, Mohsen Hashemi was chosen to remain as the chair of the council with a unanimous vote – all 21 members voted for him, while last year he was elected to to chair the Council with 20 votes.

Ebrahim Amini was also reinstated with 20 votes as the vice-chairman of the council, an influential municipal body that appoints the mayor of Tehran.

Councilors Zahra Nejad-Bahram (20 votes) and Bahare Arvin (19 votes) also remained as the secretaries of the board of directors.
