Parliament speaker: Zahedan terrorist crime was revenge against Iranians

TEHRAN (Iran News) Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has referred to the crime committed by the proxy terrorists in Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, saying that terrorists targeted innocent people, who stood firm against the military aggression of the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran with their unity and solidarity.

The killing of Navid, a seven-month-old child in his mother’s arms, is another testament to the suffering of the Iranian people, Qalibaf said.

The speaker emphasized that the armed and security forces of Iran, just as they decisively dealt with the terrorists responsible for the Saturday incident, will confront other agents and accomplices of this crime as well.

Pointing to the unprecedented unity of the Iranian people over the past 40 days, which dealt the hardest blow to the face of the Israeli enemy, he said that the enemy wants to take revenge on the powerful and oppressed people of Iran even more through economic warfare and psychological operations.

Qalibaf also expressed condolences on the 40th day of the martyrdom of compatriots, the brave commanders, and scholars during the aggression of the Israeli regime in the imposed 12-day war. He said that the Israeli criminals have once again proven that terrorism is an inseparable trait of theirs, making no distinction between military and civilian, old and young, or men and women.

The speaker further referred to the situation in the Gaza Strip, saying that this illegitimate child and cancerous tumor of the Western world, which is currently orchestrating one of the greatest tragedies in history in Gaza, must be stopped as soon as possible before it plunges the entire region and the world into greater chaos.

At least nine individuals, including three of the assailants, were killed in the armed attack by a terrorist group on a courthouse in Zahedan on Saturday.

BRICS Members Eager to Expand Economic Cooperation

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking upon his return to Tehran from a multi-nation Latin American tour that included Venezuela, Cuba, and Brazil, Qalibaf emphasized that during the recent BRICS Parliamentary Forum, the heads of legislative bodies expressed united stances against U.S. unilateralism and voiced strong interest in enhancing mutual economic ties.

According to the public relations office of Majlis, Qalibaf arrived at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport on Friday, following a diplomatic mission that began the previous Saturday and culminated in Brazil.

Reflecting on the first leg of the trip, Qalibaf highlighted productive discussions with senior Venezuelan officials, including the president, foreign minister, and transport minister, who also chairs the countries’ joint economic commission.

He described the bilateral talks as a positive step forward for political and economic relations, noting the potential for expanded cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and technology. A key focus was an agreement on customs tariff liberalization, which is expected to be finalized in the coming months.

In addition to formal meetings, he also engaged with religious leaders, academics, and students, with discussions centering on U.S. foreign policy and the crisis in Gaza. He also visited a permanent exhibition of Iranian knowledge-based companies in Caracas, calling it a promising sign of growing bilateral scientific and industrial ties.

In Havana, Qalibaf praised Cuba as a nation of independence and resistance, acknowledging its long-standing challenges under economic sanctions. Meetings with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and parliamentary leaders underscored the potential for collaboration in agriculture and energy, particularly within the country’s refinery infrastructure.

One notable development during the visit was the presentation of four Iranian nuclear medicine kits to the Cuban president, symbolizing Tehran’s intent to expand cooperation in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

The final leg of Qalibaf’s trip took him to Brasília, where he participated in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum. He described the bloc—comprising nearly half the world’s population and a significant share of global trade and GDP—as a vital platform for Iran’s regional and international diplomacy.

Qalibaf underscored the consensus among BRICS parliament heads against U.S. unilateralism and their mutual commitment to deepening economic relations. He also met with Brazilian Senate and House leaders to discuss trade imbalances. While bilateral trade volume stands at €8 billion, only €1 billion accounts for Iranian exports, which he said could be improved by leveraging Iran’s capacity in agriculture and petrochemicals.

Qalibaf also noted that the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in New Delhi in 2026. During a meeting with the Speaker of India’s Parliament, the two sides discussed accelerating the implementation of agreements and addressing development delays in key projects such as Iran’s Chabahar port.

The Iranian Embassy in Brazil also hosted a cultural event to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the passing of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, attended by diplomats, academics, and students. Qalibaf thanked the embassy for organizing the tribute.

He concluded that despite the tight schedule, the trip yielded substantial results in parliamentary diplomacy and economic engagement. He emphasized that active parliamentary diplomacy is essential for advancing Iran’s foreign policy and public diplomacy goals.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Ahmad Naderi, head of the Iran-Brazil parliamentary friendship group; Maryam Abdollahi, its deputy chair; Mostafa Taheri, chair of the parliamentary AI caucus; Gholamreza Tajgardoon, chair of the Budget and Planning Commission; Salar Velayatmadar and Jalil Mokhtar, heads of the Venezuela and Cuba friendship groups respectively; and Mohammad Rashidi from the Agriculture Commission.

Parliament speaker advocates for capital security to facilitate investment for production

TEHRAN (Iran News) Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized the need for collaboration among all three branches of the Iranian government to create a safer environment for investment in production, aiming to enhance investor motivation, which is crucial and can only be achieved through ensuring capital security in Iran.

Speaking during an open session of the Iranian Parliament on Sunday, Qalibaf noted that the economy comprises a set of interconnected areas; therefore, any intervention by policymakers will affect other sectors, and stakeholders’ responses to decisions must be carefully considered in advance.

The speaker warned that uncoordinated actions by policy-making entities could backfire. He pointed out that the lack of a coordinated approach over the past 15 years has exacerbated imbalances and created obstacles to sustainable economic transformation.

He also said that the motto for the Persian New Year relates not only to the economy but also to production. Over the past years, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has designated mottos aimed at promoting production and economic progress, as well as addressing the livelihood issues of the people.

If investment increases, production will improve, leading to economic growth, which in turn enhances welfare and purchasing power, he said, noting that the key to resolving livelihood problems lies in investing in activities that boost productivity.

According to the speaker, constant changes in regulations can lead to capital flight and encourage people to invest in unproductive ventures. Therefore, the heads of the three branches of the government – judicial, legislative, and executive – should encourage investment from the public.

Further, he referred to the International Quds Day, which was commemorated across the world, saying that this year’s rallies in support of the Palestinian people demonstrated the unity among freedom-loving individuals against the crimes of the Israeli regime.

Hezbollah’s power display shows resistance cannot be eliminated: Iran parliament speaker

TEHRAN (Iran News) Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Tuesday that the magnificent and historic funeral ceremony for the esteemed and popular leaders of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, showcased the cohesion, strength, public support of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

The funeral, attended by Nasrallah’s followers, sent a message to the world that resistance against tyranny, occupation, and the atrocities of the occupying regime is an ideology that cannot be destroyed through assassination and crime, the speaker said.

Qalibaf emphasized that the beloved leader of Hezbollah is admired by both men and women who are unafraid of the enemy, adding that witnessing such a remarkable funeral ceremony reinforced his belief that the divine path cannot be obliterated by infidels or criminals.

He also said that in the political realm, the display of strength indicated that adversaries could not marginalize resistance with such public support or exclude it from Lebanon’s public and security landscape. He also mentioned that Hezbollah is an integral part of the national power and a guarantor of the country’s security and territorial integrity.

He said that Hezbollah prioritizes Lebanon’s national interests while emphasizing the need to avoid any foreign interference.

Qalibaf concluded that Iran believes national consensus is essential for Lebanon’s security, stability, and progress; therefore, the Islamic Republic advocates for any agreement among the Lebanese government, parliament, and resistance.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Delegates from the highest ranks of the Iranian government as well as private citizens have headed to Lebanon to participate in the funeral for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashim Safieddine, the leaders of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah who were assassinated by the Israeli regime.

Among the delegates was Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf who departed for Beirut early on Sunday to attend the funeral ceremony later in the day.

Speaking to reporters before his departure, Qalibaf said that a delegation comprised of members of the office of the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as representatives from President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, the Judiciary, and Parliament will attend the funeral for Nasrallah and Safieddine.

Families of Iranian martyrs, top and cultural figures will participate in the event as well, Qalibaf added, who described the funeral as a turning point in the grandeur of the Resistance Front, the Islamic world and the Lebanese people.

During his lifetime, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was a source of pride and dignity for the Islamic world, the top Iranian parliamentarian said, adding that Nasrallah was widely recognized as a symbol of fighting against Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

Despite suffering great losses due to the martyrdom of its resistance leaders, Lebanon remains proud as it has restored security to its territory following the months-long Israeli aggression, Qalibaf further said.

‘Opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties’

The speaker also told reporters that his trip to Beirut will serve as an opportunity to further enhance relations with Lebanon, as he plans to meet with top officials there.

Lebanon’s resistance leaders

Nasrallah, the long-time secretary general of Hezbollah, was assassinated by the Israeli regime on September 27 last year. The 64-year-old resistance leader lost his life in a massive airstrike that hit Hezbollah’s stronghold in Dahieh, a southern neighborhood of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut.

The attack, which was part of a large-scale Israeli offensive against Hezbollah positions, was carried out using U.S.-supplied bunker-buster bombs that destroyed several buildings and killed a number of Hezbollah commanders as well.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered the assassination of the Hezbollah leader from the UN headquarters in New York.

Safieddine, Nasrallah’s deputy and former head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, was killed in October during an Israeli airstrike on Beirut. He had been appointed to replace Nasrallah before he was assassinated.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Iran’s Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the Islamic Republic supports the establishment of stability in Sudan and the formation of a “unified governance” that would ensure the territorial integrity of the country.

Qalibaf made the remarks during a meeting with the Sudanese foreign minister, Ali Yusuf Ahmed Al-Sharif, in Tehran on Monday.

He reiterated Iran’s support for stability, unified governance, and territorial integrity in Sudan, expressing hope that these goals will be achieved in the near future.

However, Qalibaf warned that enemies will always hatch “new plots” to disrupt peace in Sudan, and said “necessary planning” should take place to counter their schemes.

“We should know, first and foremost, that the enemy of the Islamic nations and countries in the region is the Zionist regime,” he added.

Sudan has been embroiled in a deadly conflict over the past two years. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced from their homes.

Qalibaf said Iran was eager to enhance political ties with Sudan while also pursuing economic and trade relations.

He also said that the Iranian Parliament, specifically the Iran-Sudan Parliamentary Friendship Group, was ready to establish relations with the Sudanese Parliament once stability is restored in the country.

Ahmed Al-Sharif said Sudan was grateful for Iran’s expression of support for the stability and unity in his country.

He added that Sudan was ready to establish effective parliamentary relations with Iran following the formation of the Sudanese Parliament.

Additionally, he expressed hope that Iran would contribute to the reconstruction of Sudan.

Iran and Sudan agreed to restore their diplomatic relations late in 2023 following a seven-year break.

TEHRAN (Iran News) During an open session of the Parliament on Sunday, Qalibaf said Lieutenant General Soleimani, who was assassinated by the US government in 2020, spent more than four decades of his life fighting the aggressor enemy and terrorist groups.

“The path of this great martyr will continue until the liberation of the Holy al-Quds and the elimination of the evil of the Zionist regime,” he said, adding that the general’s presence anywhere was a source of calm and confidence in the face of threats.

Referring to nationwide ceremonies marking the fifth anniversary of General Soleimani’s martyrdom, Qalibaf said, “I sincerely appreciate the grateful Iranian nation, especially the noble and martyr-rearing people of Kerman Province, who paid tribute to General Hajj Qassem Soleimani, the symbol and hero of the fight against terrorism and the flag-bearer of the Resistance Front, on the anniversary of his martyrdom.”

General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), as well as their companions were assassinated in a US drone strike authorized by then-US president Donald Trump near the Iraqi capital Baghdad’s International Airport on January 3, 2020.
