Tons of tomato exports through Mirjaveh

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Close to 1,000 tons of tomato, farmed in greenhouses, were exported from Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan to Russia and the Persian Gulf littoral states in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 19.

Speaking to IRNA on Monday, Mohsen Kahrazahi, the head of Mirjaveh’s Agricultural Jihad Organization, added given the high quality of the tomato produced in Mirjaveh, greater attention has been paid to exporting the crop from the city since 2017, IRNA reported.

The climate of the city has made possible organic production of non-tropical, subtropical and tropical fruits with high qualities, he noted.

Kahrazahi added in the year to March 2020, a total of 3,000 tons of crops were harvested from the city’s 57 greenhouses, including tomato, bell pepper, cucumber, and eggplant.

Tomato is farmed in half of the greenhouses in Mirjaveh, he said.

Mirjaveh is home to 3,200 hectares of orchards and 7,000 hectares of farmland.

Narcotics found in Iran’s Mirjaveh

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The police force of the Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran, have seized a big consignment of different illicit drugs and narcotics in Mirjaveh borders.

Iran’s Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Ghasem Rezaie said on Monday that following comprehensive intelligence operations, the police border guards identified a smuggling gang near the borders of the province which was planning to transfer illegal drugs and narcotics to the European countries through Mirjaveh borders.

Some 2.954 tons of illicit drugs consisting of 2.469 tons of opium and 485 kilograms of hashish have been busted during the clash between the police border guards and the gang during the operation in addition to confiscation of a large number of weapons and ammunition, he added.

The smugglers fled to the highlands of the area using the darkness of the night, he said.

Iran is at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking and thousands of Iranian forces have been so far martyred to protect the world from the danger of drugs.

According to reports we reached, in 2018 alone, Iranian forces carried out 1,557 operations against drug traffickers, seizing approximately 807 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and drugs.

Iran, Pakistan agree to increase border coop.

During the meeting which was held in Mirjaveh, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran on Wednesday, the two sides talked about strengthening border cooperation, preventing illegal traffic, as well as effective fight against trafficking of human beings and drugs.

Both sides emphasized the need to strengthen joint cooperation to combat misconduct and terrorist acts.

At this meeting, Iranian officials emphasized that they will never allow anyone to create misunderstandings between the two countries.

Last week, the second session of Pakistan-Iran Higher Border Commission (HBC) was held in Islamabad on 18 July 2019. The HBC is a mechanism for consultations between the two countries to discuss all border related issues for enhanced coordination at different levels. The first session of the Commission was held in Tehran on 17 July 2017. The second session was held in follow up of the decision taken by the leadership of the two countries during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Iran earlier this year.

Pakistan and Iran enjoy brotherly relations which are deep rooted in historical, religious, cultural ties and strong people-to-people contacts. The two countries share more than 900 km long common border that is described as a border of peace and friendship.

Flood claims lives of two border guards in SE Iran

‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Flooding happened in the area after a Saturday afternoon heavy rain which affected some regions of the Sistan and Baluchistan province.

Reportedly after tracking and monitoring the area, bodies of the two border guards have been discovered, although one border guard is still missing. Efforts are underway to find the third soldier.

The heavy flood has also inflicted damages to southern Afghanistan regions, killing some 20 people. According to Reuters, flood-affected families have been evacuated to secure areas in the districts and Kandahar city, including schools, mosques and government buildings.
