TEHRAN (Iran News) – Turkey is planning to build up a military base in Libya in purpose of providing greater support for the Tripoli-based unity Government of National Accord (GNA) in the wake of a military deal signed between the two sides last month.

Local media reported Monday that the Turkey military base will be established in Tripoli, Capital city of Libya and that Ankara had already started to prepare and provide the necessary equipment to the base in support of Libya’s internationally-recognized government led by Fayez al-Sarraj.

Turkish daily Yeni Shafak quoted military sources as saying that Ankara had asked the armed forces to equip ships and warplanes in preparation for the transfer of Turkish forces to Libya.

The sources said that the transfer process to Tripoli has already begun, with ships transferring drones, tanks, special forces, and commando units.

Sources also revealed cargo planes and helicopters have been prepared and alerted to take off towards the GNA-held Misrata Airport.

A day earlier, media reports suggested that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had held talks with Sarraj in Istanbul, just days after the Turkish leader said he was ready to send troops into Libya upon Tripoli’s request.

During the previous meeting between the two men in Istanbul late last month, Ankara and Tripoli signed an accord on expanded security and military cooperation as well as delimitation of maritime jurisdiction.

The November military deal was introduced in the Turkish parliament on Saturday.

If the military agreement is approved by lawmakers, the GNA can request vehicles, equipment and weapons for use in army, navy and air operations. It also provisions for new intelligence sharing.

Since 2014, Libya has been divided between two rival governments: the House of Representatives based in the eastern city of Tobruk and the GNA.

Renegade Libyan general Khalifa Haftar, who is commander-in-chief of the so-called Libyan National Army (LNA), supports the eastern government. In April, he launched an offensive to capture the capital Tripoli and oust the GNA.

Despite intense and deadly clashes between the two sides, Haftar has so far failed to achieve his objective and his offensive stalled outside the capital.

Libya plunged into chaos in 2011 when a popular uprising and a NATO intervention led to the ouster of long-time dictator Muammar Gaddafi and his execution by unruly fighters.

Sarraj’s government has been attempting to establish order ever since.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has addressed a massive rally in Tehran to denounce recent riots in some Iranian cities and gave warning to enemies.

Chief Commander of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami addressed a massive rally in Symbolic Enghelab (Revolution) in Tehran to denounce recent riots in some Iranian cities, which broke out under the guise of peaceful protests against the substantial increase in the price of gasoline by the government.

General Salami warning enemies, said that the anti-rioting massive rally in Tehran was a final nail in the coffin of the biggest enemy in history, namely the United States.

The IRGC chief commander warned that Iran will destroy Saudi Arabia, Israel, UK, and the United States if they cross Iran’s red lines.

“You tested us on the battlefield and received solid slaps but you could not respond; The entire world has probably seen some of these slaps and while have not seen some of them. You must wait and not cross our red lines because if you do, we will destroy you.”

He warned the enemies against any aggression, calling on them not to test Iran’s patience.

General Salami further advised the enemies to look up to the Iranian nation otherwise “no enemy anywhere in the world would be safe.”

Furthermore, the IRGC top commander advised the ‘Zionists’ not to wait for help from the United States as it has shown to be disloyal and it arrives very late to help after they are destroyed.

He quoted a foreign ambassador in a secret meeting as acknowledging that Iran’s economy is putting an end to reliance on oil revenues as a result of the economic sanctions, saying that he/she was advising the participants of the meeting to allow Iran to sell its oil in order not to let it achieve its goal of an oil-free economy.

Elsewhere, he referred to the recent unrest in Lebanon and Iraq and praised the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei as a great man on whom “any nation relied rose and anyone who got away from him fell.”

“As you know our Leader defeated the policy of the US and the Global Arrogance in Lebanon and he created such a big army there, of which Zionists are shivering with fear day and night,” in an apparent reference to Hezbollah movement.

“He saved the Iraqi nation from the devils and danger of partition and brought the [Iraqi] nation together,” General Salami went on to praise the role of Iran’s Leader in bringing territorial integrity and security back to Iraq. He further hailed the Arbaeen pilgrimage procession, which is annually held in Iraq, as a great example of Islamic unity.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said the Islamic Republic seeks to ensure security and stability of the Persian Gulf with the assistance of other littoral states. Iran News is covering reports of Iran’s officials attempts to bring peace to Persian Gulf with regional cooperation and aids.

The Iranian defense minister made the comments in a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono on Tuesday.

The conversation came amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf following several attacks on oil tankers as well as a recent drone attack by Yemen’s Houthi fighters on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

About 20 percent of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that links the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The United States and Saudi Arabia blamed Iran for the attacks on the tankers and Saudi facilities; accusations that Tehran flatly rejected.

Iran’s defense minister noted that no country can guarantee its security through undermining the security of the other nations.

He also rejected the accusations against Iran over attacks on Saudi oil facilities as baseless and said there was no evidence proving Iran’s hand in the air strikes.

“Those who accuse Iran either cannot or do not want to believe in the military capabilities of the Yemeni nation,” General Hatami added.

Japan’s defense minister for his part conveyed his country’s concerns over rising tensions in the Middle East.

“80 percent of Japan’s crude oil imports come through the Strait of Hormuz. The stability of the region is directly connected to Japan’s energy security,” Kono told reporters after their conversation.

Kono also called on Iran to play a constructive role in fostering peace and stability in the region with regional cooperation.
