Russian Mig-29 Delivered to Syria: Report

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The army of Syria received a batch of MiG-29 warplanes from Russian sources, a report said.

According to state news agency SANA on Saturday, the delivery took place during a ceremony held in the Russian-run Hmeimim airbase in Syria’s northwestern province of Latakia.

The report added that the warplanes flew from Hmeimim to the respected Syrian bases. The Syrian pilots will start using the warplanes in maneuvers as of June.

According to the source, the newly-received fighter jets are “more effective” than their previous generation.

Meanwhile, Syrian forces continue to score territorial gains in their battle against foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants in the northwestern province of Idlib.

Idlib is the only large territory in the hands of terrorists after the Syrian Army managed to undo militant gains across the Arab country.

Russian troops were formally invited to the country by the Syrian government in 2015.

Funeral of pilot of crashed fighter jet held in Tabriz

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A funeral procession was held for Colonel Mohammad Reza Rahmani, the pilot of a crashed fighter jet, in Tabriz on Saturday.

Rahmani was killed as his fighter jet, MiG 29, crashed over the Sabalan mountainous region in the northwestern province of Ardabil on Wednesday.

Rahmani was one of “the most experienced pilots” of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) who had a brilliant career record by operating hundreds of flight missions, the Army said in a statement on Friday.

The fighter aircraft had taken off from an airbase in the city of Tabriz.

Martyrdom of Crashed Fighter Pilot Confirmed

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian Army’s Public Relations Department on Friday confirmed the martyrdom of the “experienced” pilot of a fighter jet that crashed in the northwest of the country two days ago.

On Wednesday, a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed while flying on a mission over the Sabalan mountainous region, the Public Relations Department said in a statement.

Despite the efforts of various search teams from the Iranian Army, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Iranian Red Crescent Society, and local climbers, it was difficult to identify the whereabouts of the plane and its pilot due to the bad weather conditions, according to the statement.

However, the martyrdom of crashed fighter pilot, Colonel Mohammad Reza Rahmani was confirmed on Friday, it added.

Martyr Rahmani was one of “the most experienced pilots” of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) who had a brilliant career record by operating hundreds of flight missions, the statement said.

Fighter Jet Crashes Ardabil, Pilot Still Missing

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A fighter jet of the Iranian Air Force crashed in the northwestern province of Ardabil on Wednesday, and the pilot is still missing.

The MiG-29 fighter jet had taken off from an airbase in the city of Tabriz and was patrolling in the airspace of Ardabil Province when it crashed in a mountainous area.

The warplane’s pilot, Colonel Rahmani, has been unaccounted for, but a search operation for him is in progress in the region.

In May 2016, a MiG-29 fighter aircraft of Iran’s Air Force had to make an emergency landing at a military airport in the western city of Hamedan, during which one of the pilots was killed and the other suffered a vertebral injury.

In July that year, a Sukhoi Su-24 warplane of the Air Force crashed near Lake Bakhtegan in the southern province of Fars, but the two pilots on board survived.
