Leader condoles demise of prominent Shia cleric

In a message released on Tuesday, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said, “I express my deep commiserations over the demise of the great scholar, Ayatollah Sayyed Muhammad Hussaini, to the seminaries of Qom and Najaf, and to the honorable family and the disciples of the diseased.”

“I ask God to give great blessings to him,” the Leader added.

The prominent and distinguished scholar was born in the holy city of Najaf in 1925.

Since 1963, he had been delivering lectures in the Islamic Seminary of Qom.

Iran offers sympathy to Zimbabwe over deadly storm

In a statement on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi voiced his deepest regret over the tragic incident and offered sympathy to the government and nation of Zimbabwe, as well as the bereaved families of the victims.

A tropical storm, called Cyclone Idai, swept away bridges and homes in eastern Zimbabwe on Friday, killing at least 31 people and wounding dozens of others.

The storm has cut off power and communications in parts of Manicaland province on the border with Mozambique. Over 100 people have been reported missing.

Rouhani urges officials to look closely into deadly bus accident

President Hassan Rouhani sent a message of condolences over the bush crash in Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch that left a number of students dead and injured, calling on the related authorities to look into the causes of the accident closely to stop such accidents from happening again.

“I hereby pray to the Almighty for our children and valuable assets of the country’s future who lost their lives in the tragic accident and wish their bereaved families patience and rewards and the injured swift recovery,” the official website of Iranian President quoted him as saying.

He added, “it is essential that the related authorities look into the causes of this accident closely, carry out all necessary measures and solutions for stopping such accidents from happening again, and adopt the necessary medical measures for swifter recovery of the injured.”

On Tuesday noon, a bus carrying students of the Tehran-based Azad University rolled over in north Tehran. The death toll has raised to 10 also leaving 26 others injured. Initial reports claimed that the driver had suffered a heart attack which led to the losing control of the bus. However, there are reports that brake failure has caused the deadly accident. Officials are still studying the causes of this accident.
