]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) –Mehdi Taremi is the top star of Iranian football in European leagues, better to say the only star!

The Iranian national continued his scoring run in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, helping his side Porto to a 4-1 victory against Famalicao Sunday night.

Taremi scored the Dragon’s fourth goal with a spectacular header in the 48th minute. It was his tenth goal of the season in the 2022-2023 Primeira Liga and put him in the second place of the league’s top scorers table after Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos with 11 goals.

The Bushehr born striker jointly lead the table of players with the most assists in the Portuguese league.

To boost his eye-catching stats, the 30-year-old forward has helped Porto to lead the Group B of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League with five goals and two assists. Porto will face Inter Milan on Feb. 22 in the UCL Round of 16.

The Porto forward scored two goals against England in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Last week, Taremi was selected as the only Iranian player in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s AFC Team 2022.

The Iran international has been so prolific with the Dragons since the summer of 2020 that Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand preferred the Red Devils sign FC Porto star Mehdi Taremi rather than Besiktas’ Wout Weghorst.

The English signed finally signed the Dutch striker. However, speaking on Vibe with Five on Youtube, Ferdinand, who spent 12 years at United, revealed that he would have Taremi at the club over Weghorst. When asked about the Holland international’s potential arrival, the ex-defender said: “I’d have gone and got Taremi in from Porto.”

At the beginning of the year 2023, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) introduced the top scorers of 2022, and Taremi was ranked 4th on the list. The top players were Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain & France), Erling Haaland (Dortmund/Man City & Norway), and Robert Lewandowski (Bayern/Barcelona & Poland).

It was the icing on the cake for the Iranian superstar, a man who according to a reporter on the Portuguese Sports TV channel “does not know how to play badly”.

]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) – Rio Ave best goalscorer Mehdi Taremi joined FC Porto on a four-year deal.

He has reportedly joined Porto on a 4.5-million-euro deal.

Taremi scored 18 goals for Rio Ave in the 2019-20 season and helped the team book a place at the 2020-21 Europa League play-off round.

Despite the interest from Sporting Lison, Taremi ended up heading to FC Porto and is the fourth official confirmed for 2020/21 after Cláudio Ramos, Carraça, and Zaidu.

“I always had the dream of playing in the Champions League and in a big club. I am very happy about this situation. Being the first Iranian player at FC Porto, a club from Portugal that is one of the greatest in the world, I am very happy for all this”, he shared with the club’s media.

]]> TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ligue 1 side Bordeaux are in negotiations with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave about the possibility of signing 27-year-old Iranian international striker Mehdi Taremi.

Rio Ave are looking for €5m in order to sell a player under contract with them until 2021, but a deal could be closed for a €3m fee instead.

The only problem at the moment is that Les Girondins are not the only side interested, with Sporting Portugal having also positioned themselves.

Bordeaux officials have also been offered the chance to sign Borja Baston from Swansea on loan, despite the fact that the 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season.

The report says that Taremi will soon join the team to hold training under Carlos Carvalhal.

Born in 1992 in Bushehr, southern Iran, Taremi started his professional career in his hometown teams where he was spotted by Persepolis in 2014. During his four-year stay in the Reds, he managed to score 55 goals in a total of 112 appearances. Taremi signed with Qatar’s Al-Gharafa in 2017.

He had always said that his dream was to continue his career in Europe and now has got a chance to prove his performance. There were rumors about his return to Persepolis before he completed the transfer the Portuguese club.

Rio Ave had finished the previous 2018–19 Primeira Liga at the seventh rank with 45 points.
