Speaking at a news briefing in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “Events there [Persian Gulf region] are really moving to a dangerous point and there are risks of a large-scale military clash,” Press TV reported.

She also noted that Russia believes the U.S. is merely looking for a “pretext to whip up the situation, continue its aggressive rhetoric towards Iran, and to shift to a hotter more active phase of the conflict.”

Amid its attempts to trouble Iran’s foreign oil sales as part of its sanctions targeting the Islamic Republic, the U.S. has announced plans to form a Washington-led maritime force to supposedly secure the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, which hosts considerable international oil shipments.

On Tuesday, the U.S. officially asked Germany to participate — alongside Britain and France — in the coalition, a request that was declined by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas a day later.

Maas said on Wednesday that there was no military solution to the ongoing standoff in the region and Berlin would rather pursue a policy that prevents further escalation of tensions.

“Germany will not take part in the sea mission presented and planned by the United States,” Maas told reporters on a trip to Warsaw, the Polish capital.

By its own admission, the United States has spent astronomical sums on its wars in this region, without either succeeding or performing in a way that could result in a successful outcome.

Back in February 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump famously said during a White House address that the country had spent $6 trillion in Middle East wars.

Trump said since the U.S. first invaded Afghanistan, and 17 years later, the region is still a “hornet’s nest”. He added that “we never win” and “we don’t fight to win.”

“We have to state with regret that the conference in Warsaw came as a new demonstration of the US administration’s policy towards creating new dividing lines in the Middle East, which is already oversaturated with conflicts and contradictions,” Tass quoted her as saying on late Monday.

“However, this is the signature style of Washington that has been staking since long on imposing unilateral recipes, like the notorious ‘deal of the century’ [on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement],” the diplomat added.

She also mentioned “the practice of building coalitions based on common interests – like, for example, the designed ‘Middle East NATO’ on the anti-Iranian basis.”

“All this leads away from the goal of achieving long-term stabilization in the region, complicates prospects for the settlement of the conflict situations existing there,” Zakharova stressed.

Warsaw conference was organized by the United States and held in the Polish capital from February 13 to 14. Despite US efforts to introduce Iran as a destabilizer and hide its own role in supporting the terrorism in the Middle East, the final statement of the summit didn’t mention Iran at all.

Iranian Foreign Spokesperson Bahram Ghasemi said Friday, “despite Washington’s extensive attempts to hold an all-inclusive summit and forge a new alliance against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the number of participants and their low levels of participation, coupled with their reluctance to support any anti-Iran decision… turned the final statement of the summit into a useless document.”

Zakharova reiterated that on November 24 terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra carried out a mortar attack on Aleppo’s residential quarters with shells and chlorine, injuring more than 100 people.

She said that such terrorist works were conducted before to provoke the US-led “coalition” to carry out massive strikes on the Syrian forces, “but now, as we can see, the goal is different: to derail the implementation of Idleb Agreement and destabilize cooperation in the Astana format.”

The Russian Diplomat added that the new Astana meeting on Syria “proved that such plans of terrorists are futile.”

The situation in Idleb is explosive despite the agreement reached last September 17; terrorists are doing their best to derail its implementation,” Zakharov said, concluding that “the scale of provocations carried out by them is unfortunately growing.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova slammed the US for trying to destabilize Iran by leaving the 2015 nuclear deal and imposing sanctions on the country, saying it is Washington, not Tehran, that undermines regional security.

Moscow considers recent statements by the US ambassador to London on the Iran nuclear deal “mistaken and inappropriate,” Zakharova said on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.

Robert Wood Johnson, the US ambassador to Britain, recently said London should side with Washington rather than Brussels over Iran, calling on America’s “closest ally” to reverse its position on the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Writing for The Telegraph, Johnson challenged the UK “to abandon its European neighbors who are still backing a deal to trade with Iran and join forces with America to enforce hard-hitting sanctions,” the newspaper said.

Zakharova reacted to the US envoy’s remarks, saying it is not Tehran that destabilizes the region, “but rather those who too loosely treat international agreements, especially in such areas as nuclear security.”

She added that the US is trying to “destabilize the situation inside Iran through illegal economic sanctions and through political pressure.”

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of theJCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

The EU and the three European parties to the JCPOA, including Britain, have defied US calls to abandon the nuclear deal, saying it is a good agreement and should be maintained.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday that the so-called “White Helmets” organization had close ties with terrorists in Syria and contributed to prolonging the crisis in it.

In her weekly press conference, Zakharova said that the ‘White Helmets’ turned out to be foreign agents serving anti-Syria interests for huge amounts of money, and this has been proved uncontestably by their evacuation and distribution to different countries.

Zakharova said that the operations carried out by the Syrian Arab Army to eliminate terrorism in Daraa and Quneitra are nearing completion, pointing out that losses among the terrorists are increasing.

She stressed that the attempts of some UN officials to hold the Syrian state responsible for the terrorist act carried out by ISIL terrorist organization in Sweida province are a blatant distortion of the actual situation in Syria, manipulation and trading in the tragedy of the citizens affected by terrorist acts, which harms the reputation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the administration he heads at the United Nations.

The Spokeswoman affirmed that the UNHCR’s statement manipulates the facts and deliberately and unknowingly distorts them.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the temporary and anti-Syrian goals have prevailed over common sense and truth, especially given the absence of any reaction by this international body which is called for defending human rights over the deals already struck with the terrorists of ISIL in Mosul and Raqqa,” the Russian official added.
