TEHRAN (Iran News) In a telephone conversation on Monday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, where more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli strikes since October 2023.

The two heads of state deplored the policies and measures taken by the US and a number of other Western countries regarding the Gaza crisis.

They also emphasized that the Westerners’ media and arms support for the Zionist regime runs counter to the claim that they advocate human rights and push for a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that such policies have encouraged Israel to keep committing crimes against the defenseless people of Gaza.

Pezeshkian and Ibrahim stressed the need for unity and concerted action from Muslim countries to counter the Zionist regime’s atrocities and stop its genocidal crimes and massacre of people in Gaza.

The two officials also agreed that a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation would prove effective in this regard.

At least 40,139 people have been killed and 92,743 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A delegation from Malaysian tourism industry activists led by Director General of Tourism Malaysia Dato Zainuddin Abdul Wahab on Saturday met Iranian tourism industry activists and exchanged views on boosting cooperation in the field of tourism between the two countries.

After meeting with some officials of Iranian travel agencies as hotel officials, the Malaysian officials attended a press conference to brief the media on the goals of this visit to Tehran.

Mr. Abdul Wahab first briefed the reporters of the current tourism condition in Malaysia and said Malaysia reopened its border to tourists on May 1 and now the country is ready to host tourists from every country. He said that the pandemic affected tourism industry in Malaysia and according to the prediction of the UNWTO, it will take two or three years Malaysian tourism industry to return to the pre-pandemic condition in 2019.

He went on to say that during the pandemic and closure of the borders, Malaysia worked hard to improve the infrastructures for attracting more tourists and the country has earmarked over 8.6b ringgit credit for tourism infrastructures for attracting 2m tourists by the yearend.

He said that during this period, Malaysia has constructed or renovated its tourist resorts and parks in order that the country can compete in tourism with other countries.

On cooperation with Iran on tourism, Abdul Wahab reiterated that Iran is one of the important markets in the Middle East for Malaysia and his country has focused on Iranian families and his delegation has talked with Iranian travel agencies.

He went on to say that Malaysia for some years due to the pandemic and other problems had lost Iran’s market but Malaysia is determined to provide suitable condition for return of Iranian tourists to Malaysia and it is in talks with Iranian tour operators and travel agencies. He invited media and reporters to help the condition to return to the pre-pandemic era.

He reiterated that Iran is important for Malaysia and for this reason this country is the first destination for the delegation for talks, noting that Malaysia is cheaper than countries like Singapore.

Then Senior Director at International Promotion Division Asia/Africa of Tourism Malaysia Mr. Manoharan Periasamy said that Tourism Malaysia has signed agreements with Emirates and Qatar airways for increasing flights to Malaysia and it will help tourists from Iran and other West Asian countries to easily travel to Malaysia. He reiterated that the goal of Tourism Malaysia is to offer best and quality services with the lowest cost.

He said Malaysia is one of the best countries in terms of transportation for tourists as the visitors can have access to their tourist attractions in the shortest time.

Meanwhile Charge d’Affaires of Malaysia in Tehran Mr. Nizam Halimi said that the embassy tries to encourage Malaysian tourists to come to Iran but encouragement is not by itself enough and Iran like Malaysia should improve its tourism infrastructures in the international levels.

He said Iran is a beautiful country with four seasons and many Malaysians inquire for visiting the country and the embassy helps them.

On trade between the two countries, he said both countries have worked hard to increase their trade volume and their trade was some $1b in 2020. He also invited Iranians to attend an exhibition on halal products which is to be held in Malaysia.

Meanwhile Abdul Wahab reiterated that Tourism Malaysia has plans in Iran for promoting tourism of his country and called on the media for promotion.

Meanwhile Chairman of Iran Travel Agencies Association Mr. Hormatollah Rafiei welcomed efforts to cooperate in tourism between Iran and Malaysia and said the flight between Iran and Malaysia is the main hurdle for boosting tourism but he is sure Iranians will choose Malaysia as their tourist destination. He reiterated that there are still many people who like to visit Malaysia and both countries should start joint promotional programs. He also urged Malaysia officials to encourage their nationals to visit Iran and it will encourage the airlines to increase flights between the two states.

After the press conference and in a meeting, some of Malaysian tourism activists and hotel and resorts representatives had brief presentations about the services that they can provide for visitors.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Charge D’Affaires of Embassy of Malaysia in Iran Mohd Nizam Halimi met economic activists of Central Province of Iran in Arak and during the meeting Head of Arak Chamber of Commerce expressed his discontent over the current trade volume between Iran and Malaysia.

Halimi was in Arak for a two-day visit and meeting with economic activists of the province. On Wednesday and during a joint meeting with the economic activists of Central Province, Head of Arak Chamber of Commerce Asghar Beiki said Malaysia is in good condition for accepting Iranian products and the country’s geography has caused it to considerable shortage of milk, meat and livestock products and for this reason Malaysia imports almost 90 percent of its needs in the mentioned fields but the country is very capable in producing animal feed.

He went on to say that these factors can pave the ground for strengthening ties between Iran and Malaysia and both countries through a bilateral and win-win agreement can take advantage of this opportunity. He noted that Malaysia with producing some 20m tons of palm oil per year is strong in this filed which can meet Iran’s demands.

Beiki then pointed to the trade volume of Iran and Malaysia last year and said last year Iran exported over $81m of goods to Malaysia and said considering this Muslim’s 32m population, the amount of Iran’s exports to Malaysia is not defendable. He added that Central Province’s share of Iran’s exports to Malaysia in the past year was around $366,000, noting that in return Iran’s imports from Malaysia stood at $287.5m last year.

Beiki then pointed to the amount of trade volume of the two countries in the first five months of the current year and said that Iran has exported some $17.6b of goods while its share of exports to Malaysia was just $33.6m and in the same period country’s imports from Malaysia was $175m.

He then called for holding of such meetings and termed it a way for expanding trade ties with countries. He reiterated if there is a strong determination among producers and exporters of the province, undoubtedly these talks can lead to economic development of the province.

Then Malaysian diplomat Halimi, for his part, explained his goal for visiting the province and said his aim of visiting the capital of industry in Iran was to study ways for restoring trade and increasing the commercial exchanges between the two countries. He added that these relations can be in different fields like exchange of knowledge, knowhow, student, technology and advertisement.

He noted unfortunately due to the sanctions in the past years and problem in financial exchanges as well as the COVID pandemic as two negative and deterrent factors, the trade between Iran and Malaysia has declined considerably.

Halimi reiterated that Malaysia’s determination is focused on boosting trade with Iran and undoubtedly Iranian decision-makers also seek it.

He then pointed to the export capacities of Malaysia and said palm oil is the most important export product of Malaysia as it accounts for 70 percent of its total exports, and rubber, chemical industries and machineries are the other major exports of his country. He then stated sea foods, agro products, processed products, fuel and oil industries are the major imports of his country from Iran.

Halimi expressed his country’s interest for marketing its products in Iran and said of course there are some Iranian products that Malaysia welcomes their purchases. He then highlighted major achievements in his two-day visit to Arak and said the Central Province is full of opportunity, potential and capacity due to the existence of big production units in the province and it can have trade ties with any city and country in the world.

On the investment opportunity in Malaysia, he said last year 11 projects worth of $43m were invested by Iranians in Malaysia and 26 production units in the field of electronics were operationalized by the Iranians. Halimi said that the ground is ready for Iranians to invest in different fields like chemical industries, medical products, hotel and tourism, foodstuff and halal foodstuff.

He termed the Middle East as an important market that Malaysia seeks trade relation with it and Iran’s share for these special ties are upgradable. He called his visit to Arak a beginning point for identifying the capabilities of this industry.

He added that currently Malaysia is already open for investors and business travelers and the short term business travel is exempted from the mandatory quarantine otherwise the visitors have to stay for two weeks at a certain hotel as mandatory quarantine.

He noted that Iran and Malaysia have good cooperation and it is expected after the virus is contained, the tourist exchange between the two states would pick up. Regarding to Iranian market, he said Malaysia plans to hold recovery seminars in all over Iran as business-to-business seminars between Malaysia whole sellers and affiliated agencies and also business-to-customer seminars for the most potential customers of Malaysia destinations as soon as the country receives the indication of borders opening.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Using national currencies and mechanism of barter trade are two solutions for developing the level of economic relations between Iran and Malaysia.

Charge d’Affaires of Embassy of Malaysia to Tehran Mr. Mohammad Nizam Halimi met the manager of bilateral and multilateral relations of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Ms. Niloofar Assadi and during the meeting both sides explored ways for developing current level of cooperation between the two states.

Ms. Assadi emphasized cooperation between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur in the field of industry, tourism, hoteliering and production of halal food, and added that in the production of halal food, Malaysia is the most successful Islamic country and therefore both countries can increase the level of cooperation in this field.

She expressed her dissatisfaction over the decline in the volume of trade exchange between the two states and called for improving the cooperation in different fields.

Then she raised two suggestions for improving the ties, stating that one solution is to replace foreign currencies with the national currencies in the bilateral trade through the cooperation of the banks of the two countries, and the other one is to launch a mechanism for barter trade of the required goods by the two countries, and agro and food products will be the priority.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nizam Halimi, for his part blamed the unilateral sanctions against Iran for the drastic decline in the trade between Iran and Malaysia, and emphasized that most of Malaysian companies are keen to cooperate with Iran and to enter Iran’s market, and therefore a mechanism is needed to pave the way for them.

He then pointed to the 17th International Malaysia International Halal Showcase ( MIHAS) 2021 which will be hosted by Malaysia and urged Iranian enthusiasts to take part in this big trade event and called for colorful presence and participation of Iranian traders, and companies in the fields of halal food, Islamic investment and halal cosmetics and hygiene industries.
