TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei described the US decision to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the Israeli regime’s capital as a sign of weakness and incompetence, warning that the Zionists would be dealt a severe blow if such a move is taken.

The decision by the enemies of Islam to recognize the Palestinian city of al-Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime of Israel results from impotence and frustration, Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with top Iranian officials, ambassadors of Islamic countries to Iran, and participants in a conference on Muslim unity, held in Tehran on Wednesday.

The gathering was held to mark the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Jafar Sadeq (AS), the sixth Imam of Shiites.

“The Islamic world will definitely stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a bigger blow in that case (if Quds is announced as the capital of occupied Palestine),” Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.

“Dear Palestine will be undoubtedly liberated at last,” the Leader added, stressing that the issue of Palestine is the paramount political subject in the Muslim world.

Imam Khamenei then likened the US, Zionist regime of Israel, reactionary regimes and those affiliated with world powers as “Pharaohs of today’s world”, saying they seek to foment division and wars within the Muslim community.

The enemies’ ultimate objective behind the creation of Takfiri terrorist groups was to wage a war between Shiite and Sunni Muslims, the Leader underscored, saying, however, that such a religious war will never break out.

As regards hawkish comments by certain regional countries and their cooperation with the US, Ayatollah Khamenei made it clear that Iran has no intention of looking for rifts with Muslim governments.

Iran uses the “language of advice” in dealing with those following the US policies in the region and would not intend to respond to certain ignorant remarks, the Leader added, warning the followers of “global tyranny” against serving the world oppressors.

Ayatollah Khamenei also reiterated the call for Muslim unity and resistance in countering the bullies.

The meeting came a day after the opening of the 31st International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran. More than 500 officials, clerics, scholars and intellectuals from Muslim countries have attended the three-day event to discuss the problems Islamic nations are facing.

TEHRAN – A member of Iran’s Money and Credit Council attributed major global banks’ reluctance to build banking links with Iran to the US government’s intimidating policies and obstructionism.

Conditions are not still set for Iranian banks to make connection with the world’s top banks, Bahman Abdollahi, member of the highest policy-making body in the Central Bank of Iran, said on Saturday.

The predictions of Iran’s economic and banking relations with the world in the post-JCPOA era have not come true, he deplored, blaming the Western parties, the US in particular, for this due to their lack of commitment to the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

The comments come against the backdrop of growing concerns that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the lasting nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), has not led to any major breakthroughs in Iran’s financial transactions with foreign banks and companies.

In an appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations in the US in April 2016, Central Bank of Iran Chief Valiollah Seif said “almost nothing” has happened for facilitating Iran’s financial transactions, criticizing Washington for failing to fulfill its commitments under the JCPOA.

Speaking to IRIB, the energy minister said that these projects would produce 3,600 megawatts (MW) of energy.

At present, the province enjoys over 13,200 MW installed production capacity which will be increased this year by inaugurating two 160 MW projects including Behbahan and West Karun power plants, Ardakanian added.

He said that in the next Iranian calendar year (to start on March 21, 2018), another 4,500 MW project will be launched in the region.

The energy minister said that the installed production capacity of the oil rich region will be increased by 60 percent after launch of the above mentioned projects.

Iran exports around 12 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity to its neighbors each year, while the imports stand at an annual level of 4 billion kWh, Iran’s energy minister said in November 2015.

TEHRAN – Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Najafi highlighted efforts to attract foreign investments to develop the Iranian capital, saying more than 100 mega projects are being planned to be carried out with foreign investments.

Najafi said his key vision for Tehran is to bolster exchanges and contacts with leading cities of the world in finance, entrepreneurship, manufacturing and renewable energy so that the underinvested capital can lure large-scale investments and professionals for industrial diversification in a post-oil economy, the Korea Herald reported on Monday.

Over 100 large-scale projects are being planned for foreign investors, he said, encouraging Korean companies to plow capital into knowledge-based industries, as well as construction, industrial and car manufacturing, electric battery production, air pollution control and waste recycling into energy and fertilizer.

Of particular importance, constructing and expanding the Tehran Metro subway hold much potential, he said, citing the need for expertise in mechanical components, electronic equipment, and software.

The government of Tehran offers municipal guarantees for returns to investment, just as the central government provides sovereign guarantees to investors. Iran has secured a line of credit of 8 billion euros ($9.4 billion) from the Korea Eximbank since August, the country’s biggest loan since the nuclear deal that will finance Korean firms’ projects in Iran, the report said.

“Over the last four years since the launch of the Rouhani administration in August 2013, many effective programs and initiatives for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have materialized,” explained Najafi, adding he, too, pays keen attention to the issue.

“Knowledge-based SMEs have expanded as a result in Tehran. My administration has identified zones for attracting knowledge-intensive companies, modeling ‘Station F’ in France,” he added, referring to the world’s biggest startup incubator in Paris. Refashioned from an old train station, the venture ecosystem covering 34,000 square meters has the capacity for more than 3,000 startups, eight event spaces, 30 shower stalls, 60 meeting rooms and 100 shared apartments for entrepreneurs.

Najafi underlined that Tehran — the main industries of which include the manufacturing of automobiles, electronics, electrical equipment, textiles, sugar, cement and chemical products, alongside government jobs, labor-intensive services and management of oil refineries — aims to replicate France’s experience to nurture and protect the growth of its SMEs.
