TEHRAN (Iran News)  Major General Hossein Salami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), says Iran is constantly growing its missile power in terms of the number of the weapons and their quality.  

“The growth rate of our missile power is updated. Every day, [our] missiles are witnessing growth in terms of quantity, quality, capability and design,” Salami said on Saturday evening, dismissing speculations by “the enemy” that Iran’s missile manufacturing has been suspended.

He made the comments as he addressed IRGC members during his visit to Iran’s “missile city”, which is an underground facility unveiled a day earlier, housing different types of domestically-made missiles.

Due to developments in the region over the past weeks, enemies falsely got happy and tried to use their media and propaganda campaign to show that those developments have caused the Islamic Republic’s power to weaken, Salami said.

“We know that such judgements are the dreams of the enemy, not realities on the ground,” the IRGC top commander noted, warning adversaries of Iran that the Islamic Republic’s political determination to counter aggression and excessive demands is decisive.

Iran’s self-reliance

Major General Salami also said that Iran acts independently when it comes to defending itself, without relying on any power outside of its borders.

“We have never relied on any power outside of the system to defend our independence, identity, credit and power. We have not put the defense of the country based on others’ action. Self-reliance is the principle of our doctrine in terms of strategy, operations and tactics.”

The IRGC commander warned enemies to mind their calculations, as Iran acts on time and at proper level.

Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks in the northwestern Iranian city of Urmia on Monday as he addressed members of the Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base of the IRGC Ground Force as well as a number of military commanders and state officials.

“The Iranian nation will not allow separatists and traitors to conspire against the independence of the country. They will not let enemies endanger security at the country’s frontiers. There will be no safe place for anyone pursuing anti-Iran plots,” he said.

The IRGC chief highlighted that enemies have been waging various conspiracies and seditious plots against the Iranian nation since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, emphasizing that they want Iranian cities to be in ruins just like those in war-ravaged Syria.

“They (enemies) want poverty and the collapse of the economy and security. This is the sinister scheme that enemies have been chasing in Muslim countries, and of course, have failed to accomplish until now,” Salami said.

The IRGC chief commander also pointed to the hegemonic powers’ anger at the development and progress of Muslims, saying they employ all their political and strategic means as well as divisive and destabilizing mechanisms in order to keep Muslim nations divided and underdeveloped.

“This is the plot that arrogant powers, the United States and Zionists have long been pursuing. Displacement does not come to an end overnight. Our borders must be safe and secure,” Salami said.

Earlier, the IRGC chief had said enemies that are infuriated by and try to downplay the Islamic Republic’s achievements have resorted to evil plots to foment riots in Iran.

Addressing a conference in commemoration of martyred Iranian athletes in Tehran last October, Major General Salami said the enemies cannot tolerate the Islamic Republic’s achievements and its success in overcoming the sanctions.

He warned of the hostile scenarios against Iran, saying the evil activities of the media outlets have been masterminded by think tanks in Washington, New York, and a number of European countries with the purpose of destroying Iran’s achievements.

The commander also advised the Iranian youth to protect the country’s glory, might, grandeur, political power in the international arena, regional clout, and strong security that have been gained with the blood of martyrs.

“Our nation has been obstructing the enemies’ evil plots in the past 42 years [since the victory of the Islamic Revolution] as today, we are the ones that set conditions [for talks] and decide for our own destiny,” Major General Hossein Salami said in a conference in Tehran on Sunday.

Referring to the nature of resistance in the Islamic Revolution and the praiseworthy commitment of the Iranian nation, the IRGC chief said, “Our Revolution is a continuation of the mission of the divine prophets, the same mission that came to pure the earth.”

Therefore, he noted, it is obvious that the enemies from across the world would be against such a spirit, and subsequently, make every effort to obstruct its path.

All of the enemy’s dreams and objectives have ended in failure, the general said, adding that the policy of maximum pressure, for instance, has also failed to prevent Iran from boosting its capabilities, including those in the defense sector.

“We are witnessing the decay and weakening of the enemy and it does not look like a power and empire anymore.”

He concluded, “The enemy today has realized that power is what we have. Today, we set condition [for talks] for the enemy, and this is due to the power of the righteous people, who were able to understand the truth of life.”

He added Iran has obtained plenty of modern weapons, reminding the enemies that it is the Islamic Republic that sets conditions.

Salami said the Islamic Republic is not dealing with the enemies with empty hands anymore, as is has plenty of modern weapons.

“Today, we set conditions for the enemy. Of course whenever we were restricted by their (enemy’s) conditions, we lost. But when we set conditions for the enemy, we won,” he added.

Previously, Spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi rapped the US interfering policies in the regional states and stressed the need for American forces to leave the region.

Also, in September, IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami said that the US has now been isolated in the world and is withdrawing from the region.

He referred to the US role in the formation of ISIL terrorist group, and said Iran defused Washington’s plots in this grand battlefield and prevented materialization of its political wishes to restructure the Middle-East politically.

Today, Islamic Republic of Iran owns high power and strength in the international arena and is the source of producing power, Salami stated.

“We are committed to defend the country, because, we are confident that victory and sovereignty of the noble nation of Islamic Iran will be the result of this resistance.”

Chief Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami added, “today, political interaction of the world with the Islamic Republic of Iran is a sign of honor and a wish for US officials. All the aspirations of the President of the United States are a few minutes of talk with one of Iranian officials.”

He made the remarks on the sideline of a local event in Mashhad, northeast Iran.

Iran has recently made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing military equipment and hardware despite facing sanctions and Western economic pressure. The most recent unveiling came on Thursday as domestically made Bavar-373 air defense system came on stream. The Islamic Republic says its military power is solely for defensive purposes and does not pose any threat to other countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salami said that security of the Persian Gulf is provided by Iranian Armed Forces and that enemies cannot undermine this security.

The remarks came as the United States has announced plans to form the coalition to supposedly protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz following a series of mysterious attacks on oil tankers in the strait and the Sea of Oman. Washington has accused Iran of having a hand in those attacks, a claim Tehran has strongly rejected. Tehran has warned that such sabotage operations may be part of a general ploy to target Iran amid increasing regional tensions. The US has asked its allies to join the coalition, a call which has not been warmly received over fears that such a mission could lead to tensions with Iran.

“We should understand this fact that we need to resist because our economic and defense power and our dignity depends on resistance against enemy’s threats,” he added.

IRGC’s first-in-command highlighted that the more enemies put pressure on Iran, the more Iranian people used them as opportunities for getting stronger.

Tensions initially built up between US and Iran after President Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 Nuclear Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and imposed severe sanctions against Tehran. Trump administration insists that they are ready for talks with Iran but Tehran says it will resist in face of all pressures and that there will be no talks with Washington unless they come back to the JCPOA and remove all the sanctions. US claims for talks proved to be more empty after Trump administration imposed sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who is in charge of the country’s foreign policy and head of any possible negotiation.

Earlier in the day, Commander of the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi Fard warned enemies of making any mistakes in the region. “Currently neither our equipment nor our experience can be compared to those during Sacred Defense years [Iraqi imposed war on Iran]; so enemies should be careful not to make any mistakes,” he said on Wednesday while paying a visit to air defense bases in southern Iran.

Noting that “in the military sphere, we have completely closed the path for the enemy,” the top commander said that the Iranian armed forces have proved and will continue to formulate all the ways to foil the enemy’s different scenarios in all fronts.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have increased since US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled Washington out of a nuclear deal last year and reimposed economic sanctions on Iran.

The conflicts have escalated in recent weeks after a series of incidents. Most recently, a US spy drone violated Iran’s airspace and ignored Iran’s warnings before being targeted by IRGC’s air defense. Following the incident, Trump signed an executive order to impose new sanctions against Iran targeting Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top IRGC commanders.
