TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Iran-South Korea Joint Chamber of Commerce refuted some reports and allegations that Iran is to import LG and Samsung home appliance products from South Korea in exchange for Iran’s frozen assets in this country.

Some media outlets have claimed that the U.S. Administration has let South Korea sell LG and Samsung products in exchange for Iran’s frozen assets.

But Pouya Firouzi in an interview with ILNA refuted this allegation and said that this report is baseless, adding that after contact with Soul, the chamber learned that the report is baseless because there has not been such an issue.

He added that in the past there were some talks on payment of Iran’s debts to the Korean companies from its frozen assets in Seoul and it dates back to the pre-reimposition of sanctions.

Firouzi reiterated that in case Iran’s assets are released, the country’s priority is not the import of home appliance and import of medical and health commodities are on the top of the list.

He said the chamber has several meetings with Korean officials and they have been informed of Iran’s concerns.

He reiterated that macro decisions like releasing the funds and ways of release will be made through the governments and so far no opening has happened.

Late August, the South Korean ambassador to Tehran said that his country seeks to revive trade relations with Iran, adding that Iran’s dissatisfaction with South Korea’s stance on U.S. sanctions is sensible.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the head of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce in Tehran.

Yun Kang-hyeon pointed to a previous meeting he had held with the former Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, saying that the then Iranian president had expressed his frustration with the South Korean stance on the U.S. sanctions against Iran.

He said that the U.S. sanctions against Iran harmed both the Iranian nation in the first place as well as the Korean economy to a lesser extent.

He put the amount of frozen Iranian assets in South Korea at $7 billion, saying that his country is interested in paying back the blocked financial resources to Iran in necessary ways.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Sunday that companies which accompany the U.S. in its “maximum pressure” policy against Iran and leave the Iranian market will face difficulty to return to the country in the future.

“The companies which left Iran have lost a market that cannot retake easily,” ISNA quoted Araghchi as saying on Sunday.

He added that Iran will not forget the countries’ behavior in difficult times.

Samsung and its fellow South Korean company LG Electronics – for which Iran has been a key market in the Middle East – reportedly pulled down their last advertisement banners in Iran on Friday.

The two companies had cut their trade relations with Tehran in the past months, submitting to U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran after Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi tweeted on Friday, “Some foreign companies, which have left Iran in recent years and months submitting to the U.S. bullying, should know that returning to the Iranian market will be very difficult.”

According to trade principles, keeping one’s foothold in a country’s market is harder than entering it, he said.

In his post, Mousavi also attached a photo of workers removing a banner of the South Korean company Samsung in Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from the multilateral 2015 nuclear deal in May 2018 and introduced the harshest ever sanctions against Iran under his officially stated “maximum pressure” strategy.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Foreign Ministry warned that foreign companies leaving the country due to US sanctions will not be able to return to the country’s market easily.

“Certain foreign companies which have left Iran in recent years and months – submitting to the banditry of the United States – should know that returning to the Iranian market will be much more difficult than entering it,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi tweeted on Friday, Press TV reported.

“The principles of trade maintain that conserving one’s foothold in a market is harder than entering one,” he said, adding that Iranians will also “not forget friends who stand at their side at times of hardship.”

The spokesperson attached a photo of workers removing a banner of South Korea’s tech giant Samsung in Iran.

The tweet came as Samsung and its fellow South Korean company LG Electronics – for which Iran has been a key market in the Middle East – reportedly pulled down their last advertisement banners in Iran on Friday.

The two companies had cut their trade relations with Tehran in the past months, submitting to US sanctions imposed on Iran after Washington withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in May 2018.

Both companies enjoyed major home appliances sales in Iran, being popular brands for items such as TV sets, air conditioners, telecommunications equipment and washing machines.

Samsung’s sales also notably covered about half of Iran’s lucrative android phone market, with almost 18 million Iranians having Samsung devices as of February 2018, according to a report published by Iran’s largest app market Café Bazaar.

In November, head of Iran’s home appliances union Morteza Miri said that Samsung and LG’s affiliated companies in Iran – Sam and Gplus respectively – will continue production despite the departure of the South Korean companies.

He said that the two affiliated Iranian companies will continue production with “their own equipment, personnel and production lines” and that they have negotiated to import needed material from Chinese companies.

The departure of Samsung and LG from Iran came as both companies – unlike certain other South Korean businesses in Iran – had stayed their ground in Iran when the US-led sanctions were imposed in 2011.

Following the removal of sanctions resulting from the Iran nuclear deal in 2015, Seoul expressed remorse for previously abandoning trade with Iran, and rushed to ink new trade deals with the country.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy in Seoul, Iran was once the sixth-largest market in terms of orders won by South Korean builders before the 2011 sanctions.

Seoul has been currently forced to comply with new Trump administration sanctions on Iran despite openly acknowledging that Washington’s unilateral measures hurt South Korean companies.

Last year, Washington effectively banned the country from importing Iranian oil.

Before the sanctions, South Korea was the biggest client of Iranian condensate with 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) on top of 100,000 bpd of crude oil.

Google’s Project Fi MVNO is taking $200 off a pair of LG handsets. The LG G7 ThinQ is now priced at $549, $200 or 27% less than the previous price of $749. With the price cut, you can own the device for 24 monthly payments of $22.88. Carrying a Super Bright 6.1-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 3120 (which works out to an aspect ratio of 19.5:9), the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform and is equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. There is a dual 16MP + 16MP dual camera setup in back (with AI features), and an 8MP front-facing wide angle camera. Keeping the lights on is a 3000mAh battery and Android 8.0 Oreo is pre-installed.

The price of the LG V35 ThinQ has been reduced 22%, or $200, from $899 to $699. That comes out to $29.13 a month over 24 months if you’re financing the purchase. The LG V35 ThinQ is equipped with a 6-inch OLED panel with a revolution of 1440 x 2880 for an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform drives the handset, which features 6GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage (47.58GB available to the user).

The LG V35 ThinQ has a pair of cameras on back (with AI capabilities) including a 16MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.6. The 16MP wide angle camera has a 107-degree viewing angle, and there is a front-facing 8MP wide-angle camera for selfies and video chats. A 3300mAh battery powers the phone, which has Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed.

Now wait. There is more. Purchasing either phone will give you a $150 service credit to be applied toward your Project Fi wireless plan. You must activate either phone within 30-days after purchase, and you have to be signed up to a full service Project Fi plan (that means voice and data). And you need to have a Project Fi or Google Payments account. Don’t try anything cute. If you cancel the purchase or return the phone you buy, the service credit goes away. By the way, it will take 45 to 60 days for the $150 to show up in your account. Project Fi also has the new Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL available to pre-order, if you’re interested.

We consider Project Fi to be a hybrid carrier since it automatically switches signals between those provided by Wi-Fi hotspots and cell signals provided by Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Three. With Bill Protection, a single subscriber pays $10 for each GB of data up to $60. After that dollar amount is reached, data is free for the remainder of the month.

After leaking some of the details itself, LG has finally taken the wraps off its newest smartphone. The LG G7 ThinQ (yes, that’s actually the name) matches all the leaks from unofficial sources.

It has some things we expect out of the G-series, including a dual camera and high-resolution LCD panel. However, it also borrows features from the competition — there’s a notch, and “AI” in the camera. The G7 ThinQ looks like a perfectly fine phone, but fine might not be enough in 2018.

The first thing you’ll probably notice about the G7 ThinQ is that screen. It’s a 6.1-inch LCD with a resolution of 1440 x 3120. That works out to a 19.5:9 ratio, which is taller than phones like the Galaxy S9 or Pixel 2 XL. LG also says this panel can hit 1,000 nits of brightness, which is in the same neighborhood as the Galaxy S9. You might notice the bezels are not symmetrical on the G7. Unlike the iPhone X, this device has a “chin” in addition to a notch. That kind of defeats the purpose — unless the purpose is to look like a bad iPhone clone.

The notch is, of course, a design popularized by Apple last year with the iPhone X, and several Android device makers have created their own versions of the notch. LG will allow you to “turn off” the notch in software, but that just means filling the screen on either side with black instead of whatever UI is on the screen. That might look a bit weird with an LCD that lacks the perfect black levels of OLED.

LG is also talking up AI in the G7 ThinQ, but there’s not much to it. The camera can recognize specific objects and suggest filters. This is identical to the V30S ThinQ that LG announced at MWC, and there’s no hardware aspect like with Huawei’s camera AI. That phone has a neural network core in its CPU for AI processing. LG simply licensed a computer vision system from a third-party and slapped it in the camera.

One undeniably handy feature of the G7 ThinQ is the Assistant button. It’s on the left edge of the phone. You can press that at any time to pull up Google Assistant and issue voice commands. It’s sort of like Samsung’s Bixby Button, except useful. It’ll also ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

The G7 ThinQ includes all the flagship-level internals you’d expect, like a Snapdragon 845, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Interestingly, the battery is only 3,000mAh. With a 6.1-inch LCD, that battery might struggle to keep up with devices like the Galaxy S9+. The internal speaker, as previously described, will reportedly be 10 times louder than other phones.

LG hasn’t provided pricing for the G7 ThinQ yet, but it’ll probably be similar to the Galaxy S9. It’ll be on carriers in the coming weeks.
