Iranian lawmaker warns ILO of economic fallout from Israeli attack

TEHRAN (Iran News) A senior Iranian lawmaker says the Israeli attack on Iran in June put workers’ job security at risk and caused serious damage to livelihoods.

Mohammad Sargazi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s legal and judicial commission, made the remarks during a meeting with International Labor Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo in Geneva on Saturday, where he was attending the Global Human Rights Summit.

Sargazi said the strikes had damaged Iran’s economic and industrial infrastructure, disrupting business activity and reducing job opportunities across various sectors.

He also cited the combined impact of sanctions and military attacks, which he said had lowered workers’ incomes, increased unemployment, and limited access to essential services such as health and education.

“These conditions have created serious problems for vulnerable workers,” Sargazi added.

Zarif appears before Parl. to answer lawmakers’ questions

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamamd Javad Zarif is attending a Parliament’s open session today to answer lawmakers’ questions on nuclear deal talks, among other issues.

The Iranian top diplomat will be questioned by representatives of Tehran, Mashhad and Urmia on issues related to the status of nuclear deal negotiations with the EU, dual-nationals, foreign diplomacy to counter regional and international threats, as well as the illegal dam construction by neighboring countries.

The questioning session for Zarif comes a week after President Rouhani appeared before Parliament to answer a series of questions raised by lawmakers on his administration’s economic performance. Rouhani’s answers to four out of five questions failed to convince lawmakers, who were inquiring about his government’s combating of smuggling, a high unemployment rate, severe economic downturn, and the sharp decline of the Iranian rial.

In the past few months, Iranian lawmakers have voted to remove Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Masoud Karbasian, as well as Minister of Labor Ali Rabiei from office, due to economic woes.

Governor of Central Bank Valiollah Seif was also removed from office, and replaced with Abdolnaser Hemmati. Seif was under fire for the national currency devaluation.

3 ministers to respond to lawmakers’ questions on various issues

Three Iranian minister including foreign, intelligence as well as the ICT ministers will attend National Security Commission’s sessions in the coming week to respond to the MP’s questions regarding recent internal and external issues.

The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will present a report on the Iran nuclear deal to the lawmakers in the Parliament National Security Commission on Monday. He will also attend a Parliament session to respond to lawmakers’ questions on different foreign affairs.

Furthermore, the Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi will attend the National Security Commission session tomorrow to respond questions on the recent developments in the country.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, will be present in the National Security Commission session on Tuesday to present a report on the country’s virtual space and the steps taken by his ministry to replace foreign apps with their domestically-produced counterparts.
