New Opportunities Emerge for Iran–Kyrgyzstan Trade and Investment

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to the Mashhad Chamber of Commerce, the delegation—led by Khorasan Razavi Governor Gholamhossein Mozaffari and Mohammadreza Tavakolizadeh, President of the Mashhad Chamber of Commerce—began its visit with several key events. These included the signing of cooperation agreements between Khorasan Razavi and Osh provinces as well as their chambers of commerce, specialized discussions with officials from the Bishkek Free Economic Zone, and official talks with Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Investment.

A series of meetings, negotiations, and site visits offered a fresh outlook on enhancing trade exchanges, launching joint investment projects, and tapping into the transit potential of both sides—highlighting that Iran–Kyrgyzstan economic relations hold far greater potential than current trade levels reflect.

On the first day of the visit, Mohammadreza Tavakolizadeh and Torud Bayev Kantoro, President of the Osh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, signed an agreement to strengthen private-sector cooperation between the two provinces.

Tavakolizadeh described the agreement as a strategic step toward broader economic, industrial, and investment collaboration. Under its terms, the two sides committed to creating new opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, and academic exchange by harnessing private-sector capacities.

He added that the agreement marks the beginning of a new chapter in economic cooperation between Khorasan Razavi and Osh and could accelerate Iran–Kyrgyzstan trade growth. The chambers pledged to exchange business delegations, facilitate exhibitions and specialized meetings, and support the implementation of joint investment projects.

The two sides will also cooperate regularly in exchanging economic, statistical, and commercial data and will share expertise in trade, customs, transportation, and investment.

On the second day, the Iranian delegation met with officials of the Bishkek Free Economic Zone to examine cooperation mechanisms and identify shared opportunities.

Tavakolizadeh highlighted the zone’s reputation as a prominent free-trade hub in Central Asia, noting its appeal for foreign investors. He said the purpose of the visit was to gain deeper insight into the zone’s legal guarantees, policy framework, and investor incentives.

The delegation’s priorities included assessing procedures for financial transactions, currency transfers, links to international banking networks, the establishment of foreign companies and offices, tax exemptions, and other legal protections available to investors.

Tavakolizadeh expressed hope that the visit would mark “the beginning of strengthened economic relations and increased trade volumes between Iran and Kyrgyzstan.”

During a meeting with Kyrgyz Minister of Investment Almas Bektaev, Khorasan Razavi Governor Gholamhossein Mozaffari outlined the province’s economic strengths. He noted that Khorasan Razavi—with a population of over seven million, several special economic and free trade zones, 43 industrial towns, and more than 6,000 active production units—is one of Iran’s industrial and mining hubs. The province produces more than 30% of Iran’s iron ore.

Mozaffari identified Kyrgyzstan’s strengths in livestock feed production, agriculture, and meat processing, stating that the two countries could build mutually beneficial partnerships based on these complementary advantages.

Iran’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Gholamhossein Yadegari, highlighted the country’s significant economic growth in recent years, including increases in GDP, foreign trade, and large-scale infrastructure development. He emphasized the need for a greater private-sector role in bilateral cooperation and noted that the presence of 40 Iranian business representatives in the delegation demonstrates readiness for deeper engagement.

Kyrgyz Minister of Investment Almas Bektaev provided an overview of the financial and regulatory responsibilities of his ministry. He said Kyrgyzstan has developed modern financial platforms both domestically and for international transactions.

Bektaev emphasized efforts to establish non-dollar alternatives for trade. Kyrgyzstan has introduced a gold-backed national stablecoin valued at par with the US dollar, alongside alternative systems to SWIFT for financial cooperation with Russia and China. These tools, he said, create new channels for facilitating international payments.

He stated that Kyrgyzstan is prepared to share comprehensive information with the Iranian side on investment opportunities, incentives, legal frameworks, and its new financial systems. He also proposed sending a specialized delegation to Iran to discuss cooperation on modern financial platforms, establishing bank accounts for Iranian businesses, and developing joint payment tools. “Iran–Kyrgyzstan”

Bektaev reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s willingness to welcome Iranian investors and ease their entry into the Kyrgyz market.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to pursue further expert-level negotiations on investment cooperation, financial collaboration, transit corridor development, and the expanded role of the private sector.

NDF of Iran Signs €50m Credit Line Agreement With Kyrgyzstan

TEHRAN (Iran News) The credit line will be allocated by the NDFI to Iranian exporters of technical and engineering services, through banks selected by the exporters themselves.

The agreement was signed by Mehdi Ghazanfari, Chairman of the NDFI, and Bakyt Toromushevich Seydikov, Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Seydikov expressed his condolences on behalf of the Kyrgyz government and people regarding the recent incident at Shahid Rajaee Port, stating his belief that the damaged infrastructure would soon be rebuilt.

Highlighting the bright future of economic relations between Iran and Kyrgyzstan, Seydikov emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, noting that the National Development Fund’s role in this regard is crucial. He added that the signing of this memorandum of understanding would contribute to boosting investment and expanding bilateral cooperation.

Discussing Kyrgyzstan’s current economic situation, the Minister stated that the country has experienced notable growth, achieving a 9% economic expansion in recent months and currently reaching 13%. He added that government debt remains under control, and inflation is maintained between 5–7%, thanks to ongoing economic reforms.

Seydikov further noted significant investments in Kyrgyzstan’s transportation and energy sectors, explaining that these efforts have reduced the time and cost of goods transportation to and from China. The new infrastructure projects, once operational, will greatly enhance logistics and natural resource exploitation opportunities.

He also revealed plans to construct a 1,900-megawatt hydroelectric power plant this year, supported by external financing. He stressed that Iran has an excellent opportunity to invest in Kyrgyzstan, where there is high demand for Iranian goods and services. Kyrgyzstan is particularly eager to cooperate with the NDFI.

The Kyrgyz minister also pointed out that Kyrgyzstan collaborates with development funds from Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Hungary, and now looks forward to expanding cooperation with Iran’s National Development Fund. He added that the planned NDFI office within Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy would significantly contribute to modernizing Kyrgyzstan’s economy.

Seydikov announced that a dedicated space would be provided for the Iran-Kyrgyzstan Joint Committee within his Ministry and assured that investment risk in Kyrgyzstan is very low. He also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan’s financial markets have performed very well this year, declaring that the country’s economic doors are wide open for Iranian investors and the NDFI.

In a press briefing after the signing ceremony, Minister Seydikov described the memorandum of understanding as a foundation for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries, enabling Iranian investors to participate in technical and engineering projects across Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the initial phase aims to attract €50 million in investment, with an option to extend it by another €50 million if the first phase proves successful.

Seydikov praised Iran’s strong industrial and economic capabilities, particularly in providing technical and engineering services. Given Kyrgyzstan’s high demand for investment, the agreement aligns well with the needs of both countries, he said, reiterating that Kyrgyzstan offers a promising and welcoming market for Iranian investors.

Regarding Kyrgyz interest in investing in Iran after the lifting of sanctions, he remarked that the two nations have always maintained good-neighborly relations, and removing barriers to investment would further strengthen their friendly ties.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –During a meeting with Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber in Bishkek on Wednesday, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov requested Iran to help his country build power plant and refinery.

While expressing his surprise about the technical-engineering services of Iran, the official requested the Islamic Republic to provide the necessary groundwork for the construction of a power plant in this country as soon as possible.

Mokhber, heading a high-ranking Iranian delegation, left Tehran for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to attend the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization which will be held on Thursday, October 26.

During the meeting, which was attended by Iran’s ministers of oil, transport and urban development, and some heads of relevant organizations, important agreements were made to expand the cooperation between the two sides.

In the first step, following the agreement of the senior officials of the two countries, the transport ministers were assigned to reach an understanding during the same trip with the continuation of negotiations for the establishment of a rail corridor from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran.

The establishment of a commercial center in Iran by Kyrgyzstan and vice versa and holding an exhibition of Iranian products in Kyrgyzstan and vice versa were among other agreements of this meeting.

Speaking to the press prior to his departure, Mokhber said: “The members of the SCO have a lot of capacity for economic cooperation, and we hope that bilateral cooperation with the Shanghai member countries will be agreed upon and planned during this trip.”

The official noted that the SCO member countries have common views with the Islamic Republic of Iran about the multipolar international order, confronting American sanctions and expanding political and economic relations.

“This shared vision can promise a bright future for the nations of the region,” he added.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, or Shanghai Pact, is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance, the creation of which was announced on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, China by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan; the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Charter, formally establishing the organization, was signed in June 2002 and entered into force on September 19, 2003.

Iran’s 6-month trade with SCO members rises 10%

The value of Iran’s non-oil trade with member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has increased by 10 percent in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-September 22), according to the spokesman of the International Relations and Trade Development Committee of Iran’s House of Industry, Mining and Trade.

Ruhollah Latifi said the country traded about 37 million tons of non-oil goods worth $21.736 billion with the 11 member states of SCO in the mentioned six months, IRNA reported.

Iran exported 31.436 million tons of goods worth $10.583 billion to the SCO members in this period, registering a three percent decline compared to the same period last year.

Moreover, the Islamic Republic imported 5.545 million tons of goods worth $11.15 billion from the mentioned countries in the said six months, indicating a 24-percent increase compared to last year’s same time span.

Among SCO members, China was Iran’s top export destination in the said period followed by India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Mongolia.

China was also the top exporter to Iran, followed by India, Russia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia.

Iran was granted long-awaited permanent membership of the SCO last year and is now completing formalities to make it official.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The ambassadors of Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan expressed willingness to import medical equipment and medicine from Iran and benefit from the country’s technology in building medical centers.

On Sunday, Pir Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, met separately with Kyrgyzstan Ambassador Turdakun Sydykov and Sri Lanka Ambassador Wishwanath Aponsu.

The Sri Lankan envoy called for importing medical items and equipment from Iran to ease the crisis of medicine shortage in his country.

Aponsu also said that Sri Lanka’s economic situation today is extremely critical, especially in the fields of oil, fuel, medicine, etc., and the poor situation in Sri Lankan hospitals is due to the shortage of medicines for cancer patients, diabetics, and medicines for pediatric diseases.

Pointing to Iran as a manufacturer of medicine and medical equipment, he called for cooperation with the IRCS, because Sri Lanka not only has problems in supplying medicine but also with medical equipment.

The Kyrgyz ambassador, for his part, announced readiness to expand medical cooperation with Iran, suggesting the construction of a hospital in the Lakan region, which is one of the deprived areas of Kyrgyzstan.

On a global scale, 56 percent of 500,000 medical equipment items available in the world market have Iranian versions.

Kolivand also announced readiness for cooperation with the two countries and said that Iran has long supported humanitarian activities.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society, in addition to being the only institution in the country that can set up medical centers abroad, also has a high capacity in the field of training aid workers, Kolivand said.

He also noted that Iran can help the countries struggling with medicine and medical equipment shortages.

Share of global market

Iran holds a share of one percent (about $5 billion) in the global market for medical equipment of approximately $500 billion, but the country has the potential to increase the share, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Health.

In 2018, the National Medical Device Directorate reported that the Iranian medical equipment market was worth $2.5 billion, 30 percent of which belonged to over 1,000 domestic firms.

On a global scale, 56 percent of 500,000 medical equipment items available in the world market have Iranian versions. In pharmaceuticals, around 70 percent of Iran’s $4.5 billion markets are domestic products and, in 2018, 97 percent of pharmaceuticals consumed in the country were manufactured locally.

In 2018, 67 percent of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used to produce drugs in Iran were made locally.

A total of 227 knowledge-based firms are supplying medical equipment for health centers across the country, according to the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

Iranian companies producing medical equipment export their products to 54 countries across the world.

IRCS services

The IRCS, established in 1922, is one of the first and oldest members of the movement and is currently one of the top five societies in the world due to its significant activities in the national and international arenas.

Currently, some 14 medical facilities of the IRCS are offering humanitarian, relief, and health services to the deprived people in 13 countries, including Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Congo, Kenya, Lebanon, Mali, Niger, and Ecuador.

In 2005, the IRCS received the Henry Davison Award for outstanding humanitarian services, and the IRCS initiative of volunteers was selected as the best project (out of 50 projects from 45 national societies), by the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
