TEHRAN (Iran News) –So far, 748 knowledge-based companies have been granted customs duty exemption, according to the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

More than 2,887 services have been provided to applicants in the fields of customs clearance, order registration, foreign exchange supply, and other issues.

By creating a customs support package, the Vice Presidency aims to facilitate the access of knowledge-based companies to the goods, laboratory equipment, and machinery, which is not intended to increase imports but to strengthen national production.

Considering that many knowledge-based companies are considered small and medium-sized and have financial limitations, support packages in the field of taxation, customs and social security help them to take the initial steps more firmly.

Knowledge-based ecosystem

Over the past year, in order to realize a resilient and knowledge-based economy, the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology has implemented a series of activities to further develop the ecosystem of innovation and technology in the country.

Strengthening knowledge-based companies are on the agenda, raising hope for reducing obstacles on the path to development. The Vice Presidency for Science and Technology was founded in 2006 as one of the sub-sets of the government with the slogan of moving from an oil-based economy to a knowledge-based one, aiming at increasing technological capabilities and innovation in order to generate wealth from the knowledge and improve people’s quality of life.

So, over 7,000 knowledge-based and 1,600 creative companies have so far been registered and started operations.

The fields of biotechnology, agriculture, food industries, chemical technologies aircraft maintenance, steel, gas, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and medicine, oil, electronics and telecommunications, information technology, and computer software are among the sectors that researchers in technology companies are working in.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei designated the current Iranian year (March 2022-March 2023) as “The Year of Production: Knowledge-Based and Job-Creating”. Strengthening knowledge-based companies are on the agenda, raising hope for reducing obstacles on the path to development.

In this regard, a strategic technology development headquarters was formed and 362,000 technological projects and 154 commercialization projects were supported, in addition to the inauguration of 23 national mega projects.

Moreover, in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem development, 65 creative houses and innovation centers, and 30 specialized accelerators have been established with the aim of empowering and strengthening the export capacity of knowledge-based, creative, and technological companies.

In this regard, the ministry will be collaborating with Iran National Innovation Fund (INIF) as the government body in charge of supporting knowledge-based companies, Shana reported.

To brief the companies and investors about the details of the mentioned program, INIF is going to host a meeting in which the project will be presented by the officials of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) to financial institutions, traders active in money and capital markets and other investors.

In this meeting, while introducing the generalities of the project, investment opportunities in this field will be explained to investors and they will also be introduced to the representatives of the knowledge-based companies that are going to work on the project.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Vice Presidency for Science and Technology is currently providing all services to support the knowledge-based companies set up by foreign nationals in Iran, the head of the international science and technology interaction center, has announced.

All support services provided to domestic knowledge-based companies will also apply to foreign nationals residing in Iran, so Afghan immigrants working in the entrepreneurial field in Iran will benefit from these services, ISNA quoted Mehdi Ghaleh-Noei as saying on Sunday.

Emphasizing that a number of technology companies have been set up by immigrants residing in the country so far, he said that the members of the board of directors of about 45 knowledge-based companies are among afghan entrepreneurs; In addition, the owners of some knowledge-based companies are also citizens of Afghanistan.

Empowerment services to knowledge-based companies include seven main topics including training and consulting, financial and administrative services, product development, intellectual property, certification and standardization, attracting capital, and developing the export market, he highlighted.

Referring to the “Special Residence” card as one of the support programs for Afghans, he explained that foreign nationals living in Iran, including Afghan immigrants, will be granted 3 and 10 years of residence and will enjoy all the rights of Iranian citizens except the right to vote.

He further expressed readiness to attract Afghan entrepreneurs and elites to enter the country’s innovation and technology ecosystem.

According to Iran Immigration Observatory’s census in 2016, a total of 1,654,388 foreign nationals are residing in Iran, 1,583,979 are Afghan nationals that constitute 96 percent of the whole population.

Iranian universities grant scholarships to Afghans

Allameh Tabatabai University of Tehran is the first Iranian university to offer scholarships to faculty members, talented students, and Afghan journalists since 2016 with the aim of expanding scientific and cultural ties between the two countries.

The number of recipients of this scholarship in previous years was 20, which has increased to 35 this year.

Supports for foreign nationals in Iran

Iran is hosting the world’s fourth-largest refugee community. The country has generously hosted approximately 1 million refugees for the past 30 years.

Based on the latest statistics, over 3 million Afghans are living in Iran – some 780,000 Afghan refugees, over 2 million undocumented Afghans, and another 600,000 Afghan passport-holders with Iranian visas.

Iran spends about 20 trillion rials (nearly $477 million at the official rate of 42,000 rials) every year on the education of foreign national students residing in the country, head of the international affairs department of the Ministry of Education Gholamreza Karimi said in March.

Over 474,000 Afghan national children are receiving education in Iran completely free of charge, he added.

Out of 970,000 foreigners (men and women) in working-age of 15 to 60 years, some 36,000 are under social insurance coverage in the country, head of Social Security Organization’s department for foreign nationals Ahmad Reza Khazaei said in July 2018.

Researchers at the Iranian company, affiliated with the Amirkabir University of Technology, have developed the advanced test kit using a real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) system to detect COVID-19 in saliva.

The CEO of the company says the kit works on the basis of molecular identification of oral fluid for the diagnosis of coronavirus in less than an hour.

The Pasteur Institute of Iran has approved the test kits, and the company is going to mass-produce rapid kits for COVID-19, Amir Abbas Esmaeilzadeh said.

The company has received purchase orders from the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Romania, Spain, and the UK, and has applied for permission for exports to Europe, he added.

The accuracy of the Iranian test kits is 2.5 to 10 times higher than that of the ones imported from abroad, the CEO added.

In April, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari inaugurated a plant manufacturing coronavirus diagnostic test kits with a capacity to produce 100,000 kits that utilize PCR analysis and 2 million serologic test kits per week.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari announced on Tuesday that Iranian knowledge-based firms have started manufacturing coronavirus test kits and they have received approval from eight countries to export their products.

Making the remarks in the southern province of Bushehr, Sattari said: “Iran presently has a production capacity of manufacturing 1 million of serology test kits per day and monthly production of 1.5 million of C-Creative Protein (CPR) test kits.”

“Of the said amount a part is domestically used and the rest is exported,” he added.

Iran exports corona diagnostic kits at the condition that the country heavily needed to these kits at the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country but with the cooperation of knowledge-based companies, not only Iran’s requirement to these kits have been met, but also suitable ways have been provided for the country in export of these kits.

On May 12, domestically produced nano-test kit for coronavirus was unveiled for the first time in the world in the presence of VP Sattari.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has currently started exporting ordinary coronavirus diagnostic kits to a number of countries including Germany and Turkey.

In line with its humanitarian aids, the Islamic Republic of Iran also donated cargo containing 5,000 corona diagnostic kits to Afghanistan and also Lebanon.

A spokesperson for the Coronavirus Combat and Prevention Headquarters Kianoush Jahanpour said on April 12 that the country has developed COVID-19 rapid test kits based on antibody detection, adding that the kits will hit the market soon.

In a tweet Jahanpour wrote, “with the efforts of Iranian experts and knowledge-based companies, a rapid test for the detection of coronavirus based on the identification of antibodies will be available soon. These quick, low-cost, and inclusive detection methods will facilitate the step-by-step implementation of ‘Smart Distancing Plan’ in the coming weeks.”

The CEO of the Iranian company Amir Abbas Ekhterayi said that his company is leading a group of knowledge-based firms in Iran active in process industries including oil and gas, mining industries and medicine.

“We have established six production lines in medicine sector,” he informed.

In one case, a bioreactor is a vessel in which a chemical process is carried out which involves organisms or biochemically active substances derived from such organisms. This process can either be aerobic or anaerobic. These bioreactors are commonly cylindrical, ranging in size from liters to cubic meters, and are often made of stainless steel.

Iranian pavilion consist of five knowledge-based companies was held in 2019 MAKS Air Show in Zhukovsky, Russia. Iranian knowledge-based companies showcased their latest achievements in the field of aerospace. They participated at the MAKS with the aim of exporting Iranian products and creating and strengthening Iranian brands.

The International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS) is on the top of the list of the world’s largest aviation forums. The main goal of MAKS is to demonstrate Russian high technologies and the openness of the Russian domestic market for joint projects with foreign partners.

MAKS is an air show that hundreds of thousands of spectators come to see. Russian aerobatic teams, as well as foreign ones regularly perform at the MAKS.

MAKS has a Unique Airshow Programme — sometimes called the most impressive in the world. The technical capabilities of the airfield allow pilots to push the limits of their aircraft, which makes demonstration flights particularly exciting. Such a grand display of aircraft technology is not possible at other airshows

MAKS was held in Zhukovsky International Airport, Zhukovskiy, Russia. The event showcased the latest aerospace and aerial achievements from more than 820 companies from 33 countries, including Iran.
