TEHRAN (Iran News) – Bangladesh’s ambassador to Tehran has emphasized that North Khorasan Province enjoys a good capacity to provide his country with raw materials, cotton, and mineral products.

A.F.M. Gousal Azam Sarker made the remarks in a meeting with board members of the North Khorasan Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture in Bojnurd on Saturday, adding that there is a good opportunity to become familiar with the economic products of the province and invest in the region.

Iran and Bangladesh have been enjoying numerous cultural and historical commonalities for several years and the two countries’ viewpoints have come closer in the current century, so there is a proper opportunity to expand trade exchanges, he noted.

The envoy went on to say that he has got much information on the capacities of the province, mentioning that North Khorasan enjoys good capacity in producing minerals, urea fertilizer, and aluminum.

As to the good coordination between Bangladesh’s chamber of commerce and North Khorasan, he argued that the South Asian country possesses an eye-catching capacity to invest in the province.

Bangladesh is the second big producer of clothes and the cotton produced in North Khorasan Province is the raw material for the industry that can be exported to the country, he said.

Moreover, steel and iron industries in North Khorasan can be exported to Bangladesh, the envoy added.

The South Asian country has significantly invested in medicine, he said, adding that North Khorasan has herbal plants, which can be exported to Bangladesh.

The exchange of investments between private sectors of both countries can pave the ground for pursuing joint ventures, he argued.

For his part, Chairman of the North Khorasan Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Saeed Purabadi said that the province intends to facilitate investment through the issuance of visas for Bangladeshi investors and merchants to pave the way for export of mineral and agricultural products.

Cement, alumina, and urea fertilizer, along with fruits, are among the products of the province, which can be exported, he said, adding that North Khorasan is one of the best places for planting medicinal herbs.

Bangladesh’s ambassador has started his three-day visit to North Khorasan on Saturday in a bid to hold talks with provincial officials and become familiar with the economic capacities of the northwestern province.

From among the 863 thousand people living in North Khorasan Province, 44 percent of the population is residing in rural areas.

TEHRAN (Iran News)- A sum of 117.5 tons of exported saffron has been exploited from Khorassan Razavi province in the first half of the Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).

“This amount of exported saffron, the strategic product from Khorassan Razavi shows %1 growth compared to the same period last year,” Head of Khorassan Razavi Agriculture Jihad Organization Mohammad Reza Orani said on Wednesday.

Orani added that in the first half of last year, 115 tons of saffron produced in the province were exported to foreign countries.

The priceless plant was sent to more than 50 countries. Spain, Vietnam, Qatar and the UAE were Iran’s biggest saffron importers during last year.

Saffron is cultivated in 22 Iranian provinces, but Khorasan Razavi, North Khorasan and South Khorasan provinces in Eastern Iran account for almost 90 percent of the country’s total saffron output.

The saffron industry has created some 200,000 jobs along the pre-harvest, harvest, post-harvest, processing, sorting and packaging chain.

Last year the top export destination for Iranian saffron was the United Arab Emirates with $31.64 million, followed by China with $20 million, Spain with $16.54 million, Afghanistan with $9.74 million and Vietnam with $8.8 million.

About 236 tons of saffron worth more than $325 million were exported from Iran during the year to March 20, showing a growth of 56 percent compared to the figure for a year earlier.

Experts have long said Iran has to improve marketing and find new customers if it wants to secure a bigger slice of the profits from saffron sales.

Bulk production methods in Iran bring in less than what is paid in countries such as Spain which re-exports the Iranian produce.

Saffron from Spain reportedly sells for €1,400 ($1,861) a kilogram in Europe, but Iranian varieties command a quarter or less that price.

“Countries like Spain, while being a major importer of saffron from our country, are among the largest exporters of this product in the world,” said the Head of Agriculture, Water and Food Industries Commission with Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Kaveh Zargaran in June.

Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade for Exports Affairs Mojtaba Khosrotaj made the remark on Wednesday night saying, “effective steps have been taken in the field of solving unemployment problem in the country.”

Speaking in a ceremony to honor exemplary exporters of South Khorasan Province, he pointed to the generation of employment in the country and added, “once promotion of export is ignored, employment opportunities cannot be generated in this sector.”

All countries in the world focus on promoting export in national development, he said, adding, “we believe that promotion of export requires planning accurately.”

He, who is the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), called on the government to remove barriers facing exporters of the country and said, “imposition of import and export rules and regulations, payment of facilities to economic activists and provision of suitable ways for constructive competition in export field are the main task of the government which should be taken into serious consideration.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khosrotaj called for setting up representative office in other countries in order to promote export activities.

He put the number of commercial envoys in other countries at 20 and said, “establishing representative office in other countries can help exporters to eye target markets suitably.”

Turning to the high export capacities and potentials in South Khorasan Province, he said, “tile and ceramics export in the country has witnessed a considerable six percent growth in the current year (to end March 20, 2018) as compared to a year before.”

The deputy minister once again urged the respected government to take effective steps in the field of supporting export activists and domestic exporters to spur production and generate more employment opportunities in the country.
