Kerman, Bukhara Propose Joint Carpet Market

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking during a meeting with the Mayor of Bukhara, Tabibzadeh noted the long-standing heritage of both cities in the carpet industry, stating that while their traditional position has faded, there is an opportunity to rebuild it through a shared value chain for production, processing, and export of handmade carpets. He proposed the creation of a joint Kerman-Bukhara Carpet Market aimed at reviving the historical identity and increasing global trade in authentic handmade rugs.

He added that a thorough review of cooperation areas between Kerman and Bukhara should be undertaken. Highlighting the cultural ties between the two cities, he suggested tourism could benefit from this relationship, as Kerman offers numerous attractions likely to appeal to Uzbek visitors.

Tabibzadeh also proposed health tourism as a mutual opportunity, citing Kerman’s skilled medical professionals and advanced healthcare infrastructure. Given that many Uzbek citizens currently travel to countries such as India, Pakistan, and Turkey for treatment, he argued that promoting medical tourism to Kerman could be highly beneficial.

Mining was another common ground identified. Tabibzadeh proposed forming a joint team to explore new mineral resources such as cobalt, nickel, and lithium, and called on high-tech and knowledge-based companies to collaborate in this field. He also mentioned agricultural cooperation, including overseas farming projects and skilled labor exchange as additional areas for partnership.

During the same meeting, Jamshid Khodayev, Mayor of Bukhara, emphasized the strong ties between Iran and Uzbekistan. He pointed out that 150 Uzbek businesspeople recently participated in the Iran Expo trade exhibition, followed by visits to various Iranian cities for face-to-face meetings with officials and industry leaders.

Khodayev suggested that Iranian exporters could use Uzbekistan as a strategic route for exporting goods to the European Union with significantly lower tariffs. He highlighted areas of potential economic cooperation between Bukhara and Kerman, including iodine production, sugar and cotton industries, carpet weaving, copper and oil refinery products, leather processing, irrigation systems, and construction materials.

Key proposals from the meeting included setting up a “Kerman Desk” at the Bukhara Chamber of Commerce and a reciprocal “Bukhara Desk” in Kerman, aimed at tracking joint projects and facilitating connections between businesses, investors, and local officials. Plans were also discussed for hosting cultural weeks in each city to showcase their artistic, historical, culinary, and tourism assets and to strengthen cultural ties.

Further initiatives included organizing trade delegations in sectors such as industry, mining, agriculture, health, and tourism, as well as holding joint exhibitions in both cities to promote local products and investment opportunities.

Finally, the meeting proposed installing cultural and tourism-themed billboards in Kerman and Bukhara to introduce citizens to each city’s contemporary and historical identity and to foster public awareness and friendship.

Omani Investor Commits $90m to Kerman, Highlighting Iran’s Investment Security

TEHRAN (Iran News) During the seminar, Hassanzadeh also highlighted the role of the Iran Chamber of Commerce’s Arbitration Center, which was established in 2001 by parliamentary legislation. The center provides arbitration services for resolving domestic and international commercial disputes, offering businesses an alternative to lengthy court proceedings.

“Arbitration is a more efficient and cost-effective method for resolving commercial disputes compared to traditional judicial processes,” Hassanzadeh stated. He emphasized that arbitration offers speed, specialized expertise, and lower costs, making it an attractive option for economic stakeholders.

Hassanzadeh stressed the need to expand the Iran Chamber of Commerce’s Arbitration Center to all commercial chambers across the country. He argued that the center should serve as a primary dispute resolution hub, even for non-member businesses.

“To strengthen the arbitration framework, it is crucial to establish branches in all provincial chambers of commerce,” he added. “This will make arbitration services more accessible to businesses outside major urban centers and encourage more companies to utilize the center’s expertise.”

The President of the Iran Chamber of Commerce also pointed out a lack of awareness among business owners regarding arbitration’s benefits. He called for structured training programs to educate economic actors about arbitration procedures and advantages.

Additionally, Hassanzadeh underscored the importance of expanding arbitration services internationally, particularly in countries with significant trade relations with Iran, such as Iraq, China, Russia, Turkey, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. He proposed formal agreements with joint chambers of commerce in these nations to facilitate arbitration services for cross-border trade disputes.

Hassanzadeh also called for increased cooperation between the Arbitration Center and Iran’s Supreme Technical Council within the country’s Budget and Planning Organization. He noted that while the council currently handles disputes between government contractors and agencies, its rigid structure slows down dispute resolution.

“To enhance efficiency in handling specialized disputes, arbitration responsibilities should be delegated to the Iran Chamber of Commerce’s Arbitration Center,” he suggested, arguing that this move would streamline commercial dispute resolution. “Omani Investor”

Hassanzadeh expressed optimism about the future of arbitration services in Iran, emphasizing that with strategic expansion and international cooperation, the Iran Chamber of Commerce’s Arbitration Center can become a reliable hub for commercial dispute resolution. He reiterated the need for comprehensive planning to ensure that arbitration services are accessible and beneficial for businesses across the country.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –In a statement released on Saturday, the Intelligence Ministry gave a report on its notable achievements in the past recent months.

The ministry said its forces have captured Abdullah Quetta and brought him to Iran, describing him as one of the main elements who masterminded and guided the fatal terrorist attack in Kerman in early January.

The statement noted that the intelligence obtained from the arrestee helped Iran thwart several other Takfiri terrorist plots and identify many other chief elements of terrorists and their hideouts.

The statement also pointed to the heightened attempts by the terrorists to carry out acts of sabotage during the recent presidential election in Iran, saying the Intelligence Ministry’s counterterrorism department has identified multiple nuclei of terrorist cells and had 79 direct encounters with them from May 21 to July 5 alone.

Tens of terrorist elements, their supporters, and the elements supplying them with weapons and ammunition have been captured, the statement noted, adding that 560 various assault rifles, around 42,000 bullets, nine bombs, and a lot of materials used for making bombs have been confiscated in the operations.

It went on to say that the intelligence forces have also identified and caught a number of terrorists who had recently entered Iran, as well as a number of elements with criminal backgrounds who were tasked with conducting suicide operations in Iran.

The terrorists had focused mainly on the provinces of Tehran, Alborz, Qazvin, Khorasan Razavi, Fars, Sistan and Balouchestan, Hormozgan and Bushehr to carry out terrorist attacks, it added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran’s judiciary chief said on Monday that a significant number of individuals involved in the recent terrorist attack in Kerman have been apprehended.

Speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei stressed that the arrests were made possible thanks to the combined efforts of various agencies, including the Intelligence Ministry.

In mid-January, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry issued a statement, saying that the Anonymous Soldiers had arrested several ISIS terrorist group leaders, foiled a planned attack on a police station, and neutralized two terrorists.

The phrase Anonymous Soldiers refers to Iran’s intelligence forces.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Intelligence, these two terrorists were planning to carry out another operation in Iran.

The ministry stated that the arrested terrorist elements have been transferred to detention centers for further investigation.

“Two Takfiri terrorists, who had entered the country a few days after the criminal incident in Kerman to conduct another operation, were surrounded and killed by the Anonymous Soldiers in the Kerman Province,” the ministry said.

“This operation successfully disrupted a two-stage and dangerous scenario of an attack on one of the police centers,” the statement added.

Also, five days after the terrorist attack in Kerman, Ejei stressed the urgency and diligence needed to identify and apprehend those responsible for the recent crime in Kerman city.

Mohseni Ejei made the remarks during a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council on Monday. He urged immediate steps to fast-track the cases and ensure a prompt delivery of justice.

In the meeting, Ejei expressed condolences for the terrorist incident in Kerman and claimed that the perpetrators are supported by the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel.

On 3 January 2024, a commemorative ceremony marking the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani at his grave in eastern Kerman, Iran, was attacked by two bomb explosions. The attacks killed at least 94 people.

He then reiterated that Iran’s agro and food products stand around $8b annually and Kerman Province accounts for 30% of this figure. He went on to say that India and China are the main export destinations but countries like the UAE, Turkey, Afghanistan and Persian Gulf states are the other export destinations for Kerman Province exports.

Aminian noted that dried fruits, date, pistachio and dried vegetables are of the major exports of this province either directly or indirect via other provinces in the company.

Meanwhile in the presser, the CEO of Russian Kavir Company Mr. Ahmad Vahabzadeh urged the government to stop changing the regulations which affect the exports.

He said that stability of the regulations is very important for exporters because volatility I the regulations will affect the exports and exporters may lose their markets.

He reiterated if the government ease crippling regulations and ease the exports process, exporters can find their ways in the target countries for exporting their products but with overnight changes in the regulations, the business faces tough twists.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Renewable energy development behind schedule. Renewables, including hydropower, account for about seven percent of Iran’s total power generation, versus natural gas’ 90 percent share.

Based on Iran’s Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (2016-2021), the country was aiming for 5,000 megawatts (MW) increase in renewable capacity to meet growing domestic demand and expand its presence in the regional electricity market.

But in the final year of the plan, only one-fifth of the figure has been achieved.

Iran was supposed to become a regional hub in the field of energy in the past Iranian calendar decade (March 2011-March 2021), but evidence shows that the country is facing a shortage even in the supply of electricity inside the country, an issue that many believe that could be achieved by developing renewable energy and increasing efficiency of the thermal power plants.

After the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known commonly as the Iran nuclear deal, in July 2015, many foreign delegations came to Iran for making investment and constructing renewable power plants in the country.

One of the major projects implemented in this due was a solar farm with a generation capacity of 20 megawatts which was inaugurated in the southern Kerman province in July 2017.

In the inauguration ceremony of the mentioned solar farm, the ground was also broken for another solar farm with 100 MW capacity, when Iran took a big step toward harnessing renewable energies.

Covering 44 hectares of land, the farm includes 76,912 solar panels, each having a generation capacity of 260 watts of electricity.

The project to build this farm was jointly implemented by Iran’s Mokran Solar Energy Company, as the general contractor, Germany’s ADORE GmbH Company, as the program manager, and Switzerland’s DURION AG Company, as the main investor that invested $27 million.

According to the data provided by Mokran Company, it was the largest solar farm in Iran.

With the non-implementation of the JCPOA, and re-imposition of the sanctions, the presence of foreign companies in Iran diminished and since then, the pace of development of renewable energy in the country has been significantly slowed down.

While Iran enjoys some proper condition for the development of renewable energies, unfortunately the country’s lagging behind its plan in this due.

Lamenting this situation, the vice chairman of Iran Electrical Industry Syndicate (IEIS) told IRIB on Wednesday that there is only 800 MW installed capacity of the renewable power plants in the country.

Noting that the uneven economy of the electricity industry has hindered development in this sector, Payam Baqeri said: “Lack of financial resources and problems that we put in the way of investors are two important factors preventing the development of renewable energy and reducing the acceptance for investment in this sector.”

Releasing of resources and sustainable income in the electricity industry will greatly contribute to the development of power plant capacities, he said, adding, “According to the plans, we should have up to 100,000 MW of installed power plants in the country this year, but the limitations in financial resources have led to a decrease in investment and a shortage of 15,000 MW of electricity compared to the needs in the country”.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

TEHRAN – Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Ronny Prasetyo Yuliantoro said that Indonesia is willing to develop trade and economic cooperation with Iranian province of Kerman.

Speaking in the online meeting of Kerman-Indonesia joint commission of economic cooperation, Yuliantoro said MoUs earlier signed on economic cooperation between Kerman provincial officials and Indonesian business activists, but, after imposition of sanctions against Iran, relations were not materialized.

Indonesia needs pistachio imports which should be supplied by Kerman businessmen, he added.

Meanwhile, Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Azad said volume of Iran-Indonesia trade was about $2b before U.S. withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and it reduced and amounted to over $1b in 2020.

Thanks to joint cooperation between Kerman province of Iran and Java of Indonesia, both sides can sign sisterhood agreement, he noted.

He suggested forming consortium and business groups to advance economic cooperation.

Chairman of Kerman chamber of commerce Mehdi Tabibzadeh, for his part, said that the grounds for economic cooperation have been explored.

He singled out some factories in Kerman province, whose raw materials are supplied by Indonesian partners.

He added that Indonesia is one of the important countries for Iran and Kerman Province, adding that the chamber has studied the grounds for bilateral trade as he believes in a win-win trade for both sides.

Tabibzadeh further said that some of Iran’s best plants are active in Kerman that they use raw material which is provided by Indonesia or can be provided by this country.

He said Kerman Province is after exporting its products to Indonesia and in return the province would import its needed products.

He added that the chamber has invited all officials of the major industrial units in the province to prepare the ground for a bigger trade with Indonesia.

Speaking to Tasnim, the head of Kerman’s emergency medical services said following a stampede in the city during the funeral held for General Soleimani, several people lost their lives and some others were injured.

The issue is under investigation, he said, adding that as soon as the health conditions of the injured are determined, further information on the incident will be released to the public.

A procession in Tehran on Monday drew more than one million people in the Iranian capital, crowding both main thoroughfares and side streets.

Lt. General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In a message on Friday morning, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned that harsh revenge awaits the criminals behind the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

Ayatollah Khamenei also reminded all friends and enemies of the Iranian general that the resistance path will continue vigorously, stressing that continued battle and ultimate victory will disappoint the murderers and criminals.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Millions of mourners have thronged the streets in Iran’s southeastern city of Kerman, the hometown of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, to attend a final funeral and burial rituals for the top defense strategist, who was assassinated by the US military during a visit to neighboring Iraq.

The remains of General Soleimani and one of his companions Major General Hossein Pourjafari, who was also martyred in the same US assassination operation, arrived at the Kerman airport, following massive funeral processions in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf as well as the cities of Ahvaz, Mashhad, Tehran, and Qom in Iran.

An estimated seven million mourners packed the 11-kilometer thoroughfare connecting the two Azadi (Freedom) and Imam Hossein squares as well as the intersecting side streets in the capital Tehran on Monday’s funeral, according to the Coordination Council for Islamic Propagation.

From the early hours of Tuesday, large crowds of black-clad mourners began filling the streets of Kerman to pay their respect to the Middle East’s most prominent anti-terror commander.

Chants of ‘Death to America’ have been ringing out across the city, with mourners carrying the portraits of the national hero.

The late commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will be laid to rest in his hometown following the funeral procession.

US President Donald Trump ordered a US drone strike early Friday on General Soleimani’s motorcade upon his arrival in the Iraqi capital at the invitation of the Baghdad government.

The attack also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), as well as eight other Iranian and Iraqi people.

General Soleimani is viewed by the world’s freedom-seeking people as the key figure in the Middle East battles that led to the collapse of Daesh, the world’s most notorious terror group.

Iran has sworn “harsh revenge” against the US for its terrorist operation.

A separate mass funeral is also underway for Muhandis in the southwestern city of Abadan, from where his body will be taken to Khorramshahr and Shalamcheh in Iran’s Khuzestan Province for similar mourning ceremonies.

Later in the day, the remains of the senior Iraqi commander will be taken back to his home country.

‘Architect of America’s defeat’

Addressing the mourners, Major General Hossein Salami, the IRGC chief commander, condemned the US military’s “cowardly” assassination.

“I start with the last word. We will take revenge. Our revenge will be harsh, decisive and finishing. Stay assured and calm,” the IRGC chief said. “The general’s martyrdom is a starting point for an early end to America’s presence in the Muslim world. I declare that you will see this happen very soon.”

Salami also described Soleimani as the “architect of America’s defeat” and a figure praised “beyond the Muslim world,” saying he is the role model of resistance and support for the oppressed.

Oman Can Turn to a Hub for Iran’s Exports

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

A forum on reviewing trade and investment opportunities in Oman was held in Kerman with economic activists of Kerman Province in presence.

According to reports, the forum was focused on unique characteristics of Oman as becoming a hub for re-export of Iranian goods especially to the regional markets.

In the forum, Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mohsen Zarrabi said that Omanis have always sided with Iranian nation and government especially in the war and sanction time and this proper stance can be a good opportunity for trade and Iranian economic activists.

He went on to say that despite having good bilateral political relation, there was no good trade relation between both states till 2013 when Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce was launched and the trade volume was then only around $221 and Iran’s exports were around $146m.

He noted that but by providing necessary infrastructures, easing condition for visa issuance, launching direct shipping line and direct flight and easing condition for registering companies, the trade volume between both states has become six-folded and reached $1.161b in five years and Iran’s exports have exceeded $728m.

Zarrabi went on to say that the most important advantage of Oman comparing to other countries for economic activists is exports, re-exports and imports from this country, adding that every year goods worth $20b are exported to Oman and currently Iran’s share of total exports to Oman is around 3.6 percent, reiterating that due to diversity of Iranian goods and Omani’s interest to them, this share can increase to 10 percent.

He further said that the best way for entering into Oman markets is to attend specialized exhibitions in Oman and it would be a good opportunity for Iranian economic activists to display their products and compare them with their rivals.

He also warned Iranian activists not to be deceived by cheaters and middlemen and they should go to the joint chamber for getting correct information on Oman.

Zarrabi added that improving and easing banking exchanges is the other means for boosting exports to Oman.

He emphasized that launching direct flights between provinces of Oman and Iranian cities can boost tourism and economic relations between two states while Oman has prepared necessary infrastructures for presence of Iranian tourists.

Zarrabi admitted that direct access to some markets by Iranian economic activists is impossible because of improper political relations, but they can have access to them via Oman.

He stated that since there is no way for opening long-term L/Cs in Oman, traders lose the opportunities to deal with their Omani counterparts and they can solve this problem for opening long-term L/Cs by registering their companies in Oman.

Zarrabi reiterated that Oman has signed agreement for free trade with 16 countries and Iran can take advantage of it and export its goods by zeroing reducing custom tariffs.

He went on to say that modern technology and start-ups business are welcomed in Oman.
