TEHRAN (Iran News) “Any kind of misbehavior with Iranian students is condemned and the responsible Russian authorities should be held accountable”, Jalali wrote on his X account on Saturday.

The ambassador also said that the issue has been seriously pursued, and good results have fortunately been achieved.

The responsible authorities expressed surprise at the incident and gave assurance that they would launch an investigation to deal with those mistreating the Iranian students, he said.

Jalali added that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has pursued the issue as well.

The ambassador, citing the Iranian consul general in Kazan, said that the two Iranian students detained during the incident at the university have now been released and they are in good physical condition except for a slight bruise around their eyes.

A number of students studying at Kazan Federal University from different countries, including Uzbekistan, China, Iran, and Turkmenistan, went to the Visa Extension Department of the university to renew their visas.

Police were called in after an argument broke out among some students. The quarrel however continued, and police beat the Iranian students and arrest two of them.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has praised the level of ties between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, underlining the importance of the economic body.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first specialized Eurasian exhibition in Tehran on Sunday, Jalali said, “The Eurasian Economic Union is an important and promising union for economic actors.”

“The Preferential Trade Agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Union was reached as a result of long negotiations and efforts of the parties, and during the year and a half that has passed since this agreement, it has had a significant impact on increasing the volume of trade between Iran and Eurasian Union member states,” he added.

Emphasizing Iran’s commitment to a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Union, he praised the approach of the union secretariat and member states to this issue and added, “In the approach of Russia and Mr. Putin himself, we see a positive assessment for the expansion of relations with Iran in the form of the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran’s membership in this union.”

He also referred to Iran’s efforts in the field of logistics and added that Iran can facilitate Eurasian trade through regional corridors.

Jalali pointed to two rail and sea routes and noted, “In the railway area, two very important border points of the Rasht-Astara and Chabahar-Zahedan railways are being completed. In the case of the Rasht-Astara railway due to lack of financing by the Republic of Azerbaijan problems have been created, but the Chabahar-Zahedan railway is being completed with internal resources.”

The Iranian ambassador to Russia assessed the various railway routes to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkmenistan as important North-South, East-West and middle corridors and expressed hope for the revival of these rail routes, according to ISNA.

He also stressed the role of the Caspian Sea route in developing direct trade, especially with Russia and Kazakhstan.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to the existing problems in developing trade between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, expressing hope that Iranian traders will become professional and reach the level of Eurasian countries.

It is through such professionalism and strengthening Iran’s customs that trade between the two sides will improve, he suggested.

He also called for correcting existing problems and making the agreements more effective to achieve the goal.

Emphasizing the effective role of private sector traders and chambers of commerce and the relationship between traders, Jalali said that the lack of familiarity of traders with the laws of other countries is one of the main problems in trade between the two parties. And the solution is online education and creating a database of businessmen of countries.

In the end, Jalali emphasized perseverance and efforts to develop relations.

The opening ceremony of the first specialized Eurasian exhibition was held in the presence of Iran’s ambassador to the Russian Federation. Officials and diplomats from other countries, including Russia, were also present.

During the ceremony, Jalali visited the exhibition and met with a number of businessmen and traders participating in the exhibition.

The exhibition, which runs until July 13, will feature Eurasian Union companies, including 30 companies from Russia, 30 companies from Kyrgyzstan, more than 10 companies from Armenia, more than 10 companies from Kazakhstan and companies from Belarus, along with Iranian companies.

The companies that participated in the exhibition are active in the fields of banking and finance, technology transfer, construction of large factories, silos, ports, wharves, oil tanks, shipbuilding, steel and cement. wholesalers of livestock inputs, oil and agricultural products are also present at the fair.

In May, Ambassador Jalali and Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov stressed the need for expanding economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Europeans have had enough time to put the mechanism in place, but they have not yet fulfilled their obligations seven months after America’s unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal, he lamented.

A Houthi official says the Saudi-led coalition and militants fighting on its behalf in Yemen have signed a UN-brokered deal for exchanging prisoners with the Houthi Ansarullah movement, prior to the peace negotiations due to be launched in Sweden.

Abdul Qader al-Murtaza, chairman of the Houthi-run Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, confirmed the news to Turkey’s Anadolu news agency on Monday.

“The UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, communicated to us that coalition forces and the Yemeni [self-proclaimed] government have also signed the prisoner exchange agreement that was signed in November by the Houthis,” he said.

Murtaza also noted that the agreement marks the first step towards resolving the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Peace talks between Yemen’s opposite parties are expected to begin in Sweden as early as Wednesday.

Griffiths arrived in Sana’a, the Houthi-run Yemeni capital, on Monday to escort the Houthi delegation to the planned discussions.

Meanwhile, a UN source told Reuters that the former Saudi-backed regime had also confirmed that it would follow the Houthis to the Sweden peace talks.

On Monday, a UN-chartered plane carrying 50 wounded Houthi fighters and three Yemeni doctors left Sana’a for Oman’s capital, Muscat, for treatment. The plane took off just a few hours after the UN envoy arrived in Sana’a.

Griffiths thanked all parties for facilitating the evacuation of the wounded fighters.

Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, told Reuters that the movement’s delegation would travel to Sweden Tuesday morning on a plane provided by Kuwait and accompanied by Griffiths.

However, Yemeni Minister of Information Daifallah al-Shami said that the Houthis had not received any official invitation for the UN-mediated peace talks in Sweden.

“So far (December 2), we have not received any invitation directly from the UN on peace talks in Sweden. From the efforts of UN and its special envoy, we can’t see any clear vision for peace talks,” he said.

The previous round of the peace talks collapsed in the Swiss city of Geneva in September.

‘Khashoggi crisis pressured Saudis into deal’

Lawrence Davidson, professor at the West Chester University, has told Press TV, that the prisoner exchange deal was made possible because of mounting international pressure on the Riyadh regime over the killing of critic Jamal Khashoggi.

“A lot of it has to do with the diplomatic pressure because of the murder of a US-based Saudi journalist and the anger that is generated in Congress and also other countries that are refusing … to sell them (the Saudis) weapons,” he said.

“So, this is a tactical move on their part to try to relieve some of that pressure. How far it will go, we will have to see,” he added.

Khashoggi’s murder is widely blamed on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has been leading the war on Yemen in his capacity as the kingdom’s defense minister.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the deadly military aggression against Yemen in March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall the country’s former Riyadh-allied regime and crush the Houthis, who have been running state affairs in the absence of an effective government.

The war is estimated to have left 56,000 Yemenis dead.

Back in June, the Saudi-led coalition launched an offensive on the port city of Hudaydah despite international warnings that it would compound the war-torn nation’s humanitarian crisis.

The Saudi-led offensive, coupled with a naval blockade, has destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and led to famine in the import-dependent state.

About 8.4 million Yemenis are now facing starvation. The number is likely to increase to 14 million.

Iranian Parliament Research Center (IPRC) Head Kazem Jalali said that Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea should be submitted to the Parliament in the form of bylaw for final approval, so that the Center is tasked with conducting expert-level studies on this issue.

The issue of division of water demarcation is not going to be discussed in the Convention, he said, adding, “as the President Rouhani stated in his speech in Aktau of Kazakhstan, the reason for Iran’s membership in the Convention is this that some countries should not create a military base in this sea and prevent from interfering in its affair.”

The environmental issue in the Caspian Sea is very important, so that the environmental issues in this significant sea has faced serious problem, Jalali maintained.

He pointed to the use of resources below water bedrock and said, “since Islamic Republic of Iran lies in the depth part of the Caspian Sea, the cost of extraction of resources in this sea is high, so that the said issue had been raised in the past in order to divide the sea justly among member states.”

Given the above issue, Iran has thus far taken effective steps in this regard in expert-level sessions, he observed.

He referred to his participation in the trend of talks on the Caspian Sea in the past years and reminded, “I took part as observer in several rounds of talks on the Caspian Sea in previous.”

Representative of people of Tehran in the Parliament added, “the government has conducted constructive talks with the Caspian Sea littoral states. After that, a bylaw will be formulated in order to be submitted to the Parliament.”

In these talks, decision has not yet been adopted on the determination of boundaries, he said, adding, “it is expected that involved countries will agree on this issue mutually.”

Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea was signed and sealed on August 12 in the presence of presidents of the Caspian Sea littoral states.
