TEHRAN (Iran News) – The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has slammed the act of sabotage against the country’s nuclear site in Natanz earlier in the day, noting that the international community, as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), must deal with such “nuclear terrorism” that targets Iran’s facilities.

Ali Akbar Salehi’s remarks came hours after the AEOI spokesman said on Sunday that an incident took place at the electricity distribution network of Shahid Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan nuclear facility in Natanz, which is a uranium enrichment center located in the city of the same name in Iran’s central province of Isfahan.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, while condemning this despicable act, underlines the need for the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to address this nuclear terrorism and reserves the right to take action against masterminds, perpetrators and conspirators of this [terrorist] act,” Salehi said.

He added that the Islamic Republic will seriously pursue the development of its nuclear technology, on the one hand, and make efforts to remove the oppressive U.S. sanctions, on the other hand, so that those who ordered the terrorist act would not reach their goals.

According to the AEOI chief, the action that took place at the Natanz enrichment facility shows the failure of those, who oppose the country’s industrial and political advances, in preventing Iran’s remarkable progress in its nuclear program and obstructing successful talks aimed at removing the oppressive sanctions.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the AEOI, announced the incident earlier in the day, saying it did not cause any pollution or human fatalities.

Kamalvandi added that the cause of the incident is under investigation and that further information will be announced later.

Israel’s public radio quoted unidentified intelligence sources on Sunday as saying that Israel’s Mossad spy agency carried out a cyber attack against Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, Reuters reported.

Natanz facility is among the sites being monitored by the IAEA under a 2015 landmark nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Iran and a group of world powers.

On July 2, 2020, an explosion was reported in a shed under construction at the Natanz complex, but it caused no casualties and failed to stop enrichment work at the facility.

At the time, Kamalvandi described the incident as “an act of sabotage.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Kamalvandi underlined that the parliament’s law for Strategic Measures to Counter Sanctions is being implemented by the AEOI, adding, “An important part of this law was annual production of 120kg of 20% enriched uranium and measures for implementing that was adopted instantly.”

“55kg of 20% enriched uranium has been produced so far and with this speed, we can reach the determined aim in less than eight months,” he said.

Kamalvandi said that the capacity for enriching uranium to the 20% level has increased compared to the pre-JCPOA era, adding, “Currently we have 16,000 SWUs capacity for the enrichment and the figure was 12,000 SWUs before the nuclear was inked.”

Since Iran is using new generations of centrifuges such as IR-6, the rate of uranium output has increased, he said.

“Currently, we see the deployment of 2,000 IR2M machines,” Kamalvandi said, adding that a cascade of IR-4 centrifuges has been installed and the second cascade will also be put in place.

According to the Parliament’s law, a cascade of IR-6 has also been deployed and the next cascades are under development, the spokesman said, noting that the speed of enrichment will see a “significant increase” with the completion of these installations.

Earlier this month, AEOI Head Ali Akbar Salehi had said that the country has reached the level of producing 50 kilograms of uranium with the rate of 20% enrichment.

“Currently, our production of 20% enriched uranium has reached 50 kilograms,” salehi said.

“According to the parliamentarian law, we were supposed to produce 120 kilograms of 20% enriched uranium,” he said, adding, “now, we have managed to produce 50 kilograms.”

“Surely, Iran has become stronger at the global scene,” the official said, stressing that Iran is the key to any problem in the region.

In relevant remarks on March 29, Iran’s permanent mission to the UN rejected any new proposal by the United States to rejoin the nuclear deal, including the offer of a partial removal of sanctions in return for a halt of 20% uranium enrichment by Iran, saying that Tehran would halt 20% enrichment only after verifying the removal of all sanctions by the US.

The Iranian mission said that there is no need for any new proposal for Washington’s rejoining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, stressing that the precondition for Iran’s stopping of 20% uranium enrichment is the removal of all sanctions by the US and verification of the measure by Tehran.

TEHRAN (Iran News)- Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalavandi announced on Saturday that the Fordow’s enrichment capacity will increase soon.

“Fordow’s enrichment capacity will increase gradually in the next few days. After the start of enrichment at the facility, the capacity will reach 9,500 SWU (Separative Work Units) from 8,600 SWU and we are not far from what we produced before the nuclear deal,” Kamalvandi told reporters in a press conference at Fordow nuclear site today.

He noted that Iran has requested the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor Iran’s uranium enrichment operations, and said, “The agency’s inspectors will carry out their monitoring and verification activities at the site tomorrow.”

Kamalvandi said that the level of purity of enrichment will increase to 4.5 percent when the inspectors return to check the process again.

Asked about the installation of 1,044 centrifuge machines at Fordow within the framework of 6 174-strong cascades, he said that Iran has decided not to inject uranium into two of these cascades to keep them for the enrichment of stable isotopes – i.e. non-nuclear materials.

Kamalvandi referred to Iran’s decision to modify its nuclear deal undertakings in a move to balance its undertakings and merits after the US withdrawal and the Europeans’ disloyalty to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and hoped that Tehran would not need to take further step to make the opposite sides respect their obligations.

Elsewhere, he declared that Iran will start pouring concrete at the site of its second nuclear power plant in Bushehr on Sunday, saying that the move comes despite US pressures and sanctions.

Asked about Iran’s capabilities to produce enriched uranium, Kamalvandi said that the AEOI is able to enrich uranium to the purity levels of 5%, 20%, and 60%, but meantime stressed that the allegations raised by the US and Israel about Iran’s true intentions are all illusion.

Iran, early Thursday resumed injection of UF6 gas into the centrifuge machines installed at Fordow nuclear facility as part of the country’s fourth step to modify nuclear deal undertakings.

The measure at Fordow was taken upon an executive order by President Hassan Rouhani in coordination with the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

A cylinder including 2,000 kg of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) was transferred from Natanz to Fordow nuclear site. Then, the cylinder was connected to the feeding lines on Wednesday midnight.

Following the successful technical overhaul, the gas injection to the chains as well as the centrifuges and producing and gathering enriched uranium began at Fordow under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

President Rouhani had announced on Wednesday that the nuclear facility at Fordow would soon begin its full operation after injecting UF6 gas into centrifuge machines in line with the fourth step of reducing his country’s nuclear deal undertakings.

“Iran’s 4th step in reducing its commitments under the JCPOA begins today by injecting gas to 1044 centrifuges. Thanks to US policy and its allies, Fordow will soon be back to full operation,” President Rouhani wrote on his twitter page.

He underlined that Iran does not keep its enriched uranium and produced heavy water, and noted, “The EU/E3+2 will face Iran’s further actions if they cannot fulfill their obligations within the next 60 days and secure Iran’s interests.”

“Win-Win conditions will be accepted,” President Rouhani said.

He had announced on Tuesday that Tehran would take the fourth step to scale down its nuclear deal undertakings by injecting gas into 1,044 centrifuges at Fordow nuclear site on Wednesday.

“We will take the fourth step in reducing commitments to the JCPOA (tomorrow) and I will declare the directives to the AEOI (the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran) today,” President Rouhani said, addressing the inauguration ceremony of Azadi Innovation Factory, a venue for the gathering of startups.

“The fourth step includes reducing commitments regarding the Fordow enrichment facility,” Rouhani said.

“Under the JCPOA, we were required to have up to 1,044 centrifuges at Fordow, which were supposed to spin idly without gas (being injected into them). Starting tomorrow, we will start injecting gas into the centrifuges at Fordow as part of the fourth JCPOA step,” the president added.

“To all the remaining sides to the JCPOA and other friendly countries, I’d like to state in advance that our new measures will be taken under the supervision of IAEA,” said Rouhani.

“Also, all measures in the fourth step are reversible just like in the previous steps; that is, as soon as the other sides to the agreement begin to live up to their commitments, we will resume our own suspended commitments as well,” he added.

“Some countries made efforts to reach positive results before the fourth deadline ran out, but we have no other choice but to take the fourth step starting tomorrow,” Rouhani said.

He went on to stress, however, that “there is time for negotiations for the next two months. If we reached a proper solution for the removal of sanctions on our export of oil and metal, if we could easily use our money in trade transactions, then we would be fully ready to return to the previous conditions (regarding the level of our JCPOA commitments”.

On October 2, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said that the Islamic republic would continue the reduction of its commitments under the nuclear deal.

He tasked the AEOI with implementing the drop of nuclear commitments “precisely and completely until we achieve the desired outcome”.

As a reaction to the US unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018 and its subsequent sanctions on Tehran and in a response to Europe’s sluggishness to save Iran’s interests under the deal, Iran started modification of its nuclear deal undertakings in May.

Tehran has rowed back on its nuclear commitments three times in compliance with articles 26 and 36 of the 2015 deal.

Iran says its reciprocal measures will be reversible as soon as Europe finds practical ways to shield the Iranian economy from unilateral US sanctions which were imposed last year when President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iranian Government Spokesman Ali Rabiyee said in September that his country was determined to take the fourth step to modify its nuclear deal undertakings unless the Europeans do their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“If the (Europeans’) undertakings are fully implemented, we will come close to what we had in the nuclear deal too. Our final goal is full implementation of the nuclear deal; we did not modify our undertakings to withdraw from the nuclear deal but they are aimed at bringing the other side back to compliance with their nuclear deal undertakings,” Rabiyee told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.

“Our move towards to the third step depends on the other side’s compliance with its undertakings and Tehran’s satisfaction with the Europeans’ fulfillment of their obligations,” he added.

Rabiyee warned that Iran will take a “strong” step if Europe fails to use the remaining opportunity to implement its Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action undertakings.

Last Monday, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that the country had launched a 30-strong cascade of IR6 centrifuge machines.

“We have installed 15 new-generation centrifuges in the past two months which is a very big achievement,” Salehi said in an interview with the state TV.

“Now, Fordow’s enrichment capacity (to produce uranium) has reached 8,660 SWU and we could produce nearly 450g of uranium a day before the third step (of the modification of Iran’s nuclear deal undertakings) and now it has increased to over 5,000g daily,” he added.

Salehi noted that Iran has launched a chain of 30 IR6 centrifuges, adding that at present Iran has nearly 60 IR6 centrifuge machines which can produce a sum of 600 SWUs.

He underlined that his organization planned to launch a chain of 30 IR6 centrifuges 3 to 4 years from now after testing a chain of 20 centrifuge machines, but it changed plans to take the step faster due to the high-ranking officials’ decision to modify nuclear deal undertakings in response to the European states’ disloyalties and display the Islamic Republic’s potential and power.

On April 9, Iran announced the installation of a chain of 20 advanced IR6 centrifuges in the Natanz enrichment facility in Central Iran.

Washington withdrew from the internationally-endorsed 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in May 2018, re-imposed the toughest-ever sanctions against the country and started a plan to zero down Tehran’s oil sales.

Under the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and six world powers in July 2015, Tehran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions.

The Iranian officials had earlier warned that the European Union’s failure in providing the needed ground for Tehran to enjoy the economic benefits of the nuclear deal would exhaust the country’s patience.
