Iran Not Lagging Behind in Joint Oilfields: Minister

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh highlighted a jump in crude extraction from joint oilfields over the past couple of years, saying Iran is by no means lagging behind the neighbors in this race.

Addressing a parliament session on Tuesday, Zanganeh said the administration has prioritized development of the joint oilfields considering the sanctions over the past 7 years.

Iran is not lagging behind the neighbors in the joint oilfields, the minister underlined, saying the output at the West Karun oilfields has risen from 70,000 to 400,000 bpd.

He also pointed to a jump in the South Pars gas field output, saying the large complex is now producing 700 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Zanganeh said his ministry is resolved to increase oil and gas production in the joint fields, boost gas exports, support domestic knowledge-based companies and deal with the oil sanctions.

The oil minister had announced before that Iran’s daily extraction of natural gas from the South Pars gas field has overtaken Qatar’s daily output from the joint field.

South Pars, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.

PEDEC enhances Yaran joint oilfield output using mobile processing unit

Hamoon Kazemeini, the head of the South Yaran Oil Field Development Project, announced the launch of the MOS in the field, saying the system is expected to help reach maximum production of oil from the wells of this joint field.

After installing the device in a safe place and ensuring connections, the flow of oil is directed to the MOS and after hitting the distributing tray, the gas flows upwards and the oil downwards, and after the stabilization of the oil, the pump is set on and the oil level is tuned and controlled by an automatic valve, he said.

So far, vetting of the companies providing this device has been carried out and the assessments are in their final stages by PEDEC, which is a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company.

According to Kazemeini, the companies providing these services are completely Iranian and have been visited by experienced technical and engineering teams.

Mobile Oil Separator (MOS) is a device for separating gas from crude oil and pumping it to the pipeline during the drilling, repairing, acidizing and testing of oil wells. The device is mobile and it is possible to utilize it on any needed oil well and then easily transfer and install it on another one. It is composed of three units which are installed on trailers.

Iran produces 63 mcm gas condensates in joint field shared with Turkmenistan

Daily production of 63 million cubic meters of natural gas from the joint field with Turkmenistan plays an important role in sustainability of gas grid of the country in cold seasons.

He made the remarks on Saturday in a local ceremony and added, “Oil and Gas Operation Company is the sole producer of oil and gas in eastern and northern parts of the country.

With the daily production of 63 million cubic meters of natural gas and gas condensates from Gonbadli Gas Field, shared with Turkmenistan, as well as gas supply of the largest underground gas storage tank in eastern part of the country, Oil and Gas Operation Company plays a leading role in this respect, he stressed.

Iran, Iraq weighing development of two joint oilfields: Zanganeh

Zanganeh broke the news on Sunday during a visit to the Energy Industries Engineering and Design (EIED) Company, adding that “there are massive potentialities for expanding Iran-Iraq cooperation in oil, gas, refining and petrochemicals grounds, and Iran is ready to offer its capabilities to the Iraqi oil sector.”

He added that during the visit to EIED, which is affiliated to the Oil Industries’ Engineering and Construction (OIEC), Iraqi Oil Minister Thamir Ghadhban learned about the capacities of the company, and it was decided that a joint partnership be established between OIEC and a similar company in Iraq in order to develop joint capacity utilization.

Zanganeh further pointed to Iran’s vast potentials in the oil, gas, refining and petrochemicals sectors, adding that “given the lack of development in the petrochemicals and gas industries in Iraq, there is a bright perspective for cooperation between the two countries.”

The veteran minister noted that based on the talks between the two sides, Iranian firms can take part in the oil projects implemented in Iraq.

Noting that Iran’s gas dues from Iraq stand at $1 billion, Zanganeh said the Central Bank of Iran has been tasked to follow the process of receiving the money from the neighboring country.
