Iran is ready to hold talks with the United States if Washington lifts sanctions and returns to the 2015 nuclear deal it quit last year, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised speech on Sunday, CNN reported.

“We have always believed in talks … if they lift sanctions, end the imposed economic pressure and return to the deal, we are ready to hold talks with America today, right now and anywhere,” Rouhani said in his Sunday speech.

US President Donald Trump will make the final decision for talks with Iran, Pompeo said, adding, “recent remark of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is the same offer that he offered to John F. Kerry and Barack Obama,” referring to the former US secretary of state and president.”

“President Trump will obviously make the final decision. But this is a path that the previous administration had gone down and it led to the (Iran nuclear deal) which this administration, President Trump and I both believe was a disaster,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo’s remarks came at a time that US President Donald Trump has voiced his readiness for unconditional talks with Iran.

Iranian Embassy’s Press Attaché in Paris, Hamid Moradkhani, asserted that the news of a secret meeting between Iranian former FM Kamal Kharrazi and US former Secretary of State John Kerry is total lie, in line with previous moves of media hype against Tehran.

The Iranian diplomat issued a statement late on Sunday reiterating that Mr. Kharrazi is visiting Paris to attend the meetings of Leaders for Peace Foundation.

“The aforementioned foundation was established on the initiative of Jean-Pierre Raffarin, the former Prime Minister of France, and this is the first meeting of the foundation as a start of the Leaders for Peace Foundation. Mr. Kharrazi will be Iran’s permanent representatives at frequent meetings of this foundation,” reads the statement.

“There are 27 other representatives from other countries which have become a member of this foundation; all of these representatives are whether former prime ministers or former foreign ministers in their countries but are currently representing the governments of their countries,” highlighted the diplomat in his statement.

He underlined that the only meeting of Mr. Kharrazi on Sunday was his meeting with Mr. Raffarin.

“Such meetings are held in the framework of an active and comprehensive diplomacy and as a part of policies to negotiate for preserving the maximum of national interests,” said Bahram Ghasemi, the Spokesman of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Saturday.

He made the remarks touching upon the news about a meeting between Iranian Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his former American counterpart john Kerry in the last week on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

He also reiterated that it was a usual and normal procedure of affairs that Iranian foreign minister meets with a host of colleagues, counterparts, and politicians on the sidelines of international events.

“The fact is that in today’s world using all available facilities and the art of public diplomacy to express wise and logical positions of Iran is a great and remarkable and effective thing; of course, these American figures today are nongovernmental but Influential, even influential in the American public, and even serious critics of the policies of Trump,” highlighted Mr. Ghasemi.

The New Yorker, an American weekly, relayed on a piece published on Friday, “Kerry quietly urged the Iranians not to abandon the deal or violate its terms, whatever the Trump Administration does.”

Iran and Sextet, made up of Russia, France, China, US, UK, and Germany, reached a historic accord on July 14, 2015 over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Zarif and Kerry were in charge of the negotiating teams of Iran and US respectively.

U.S. President Donald Trump has been making the harshest attacks on the international agreement. In a statement on January 12, Trump gave Europeans only 120 days to agree to an overhaul of the nuclear agreement and said if the text of the deal is not revised he would unilaterally withdraw the U.S. from it.

However, Kerry, one of the leading negotiators on the deal, told the Munich Security Conference that “this is untenable. It is not good diplomacy.”

“I believe it is absolutely critical for Europe, for the world, to make sure we hold on to this agreement,” Kerry noted According to AP.

Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the U.S., UK, France, Russia, and China – Germany and the European Union struck the nuclear deal on July 14, 2015. Immediately after the forging of the nuclear agreement, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution turning the deal into an international law.

TEHRAN – Former U.S. secretary of state John Kerry has condemned President Donald Trump’s decision to decertify the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, stressing that the agreement is working as expected.

“Important to note the simple things – the Iran nuclear deal is working, doing precisely what it was set up to do,” Kerry told a gathering at Britain’s Royal Institute of International Affairs, commonly known as Chatham House on Monday.

He added, “I heard the U.S. president say there’s a violation of the spirit of the Iran deal – There was no spirit of the deal.”

On October 13, Trump in a major confrontational stance against the Islamic Republic of Iran refused to certify the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“The Iranian regime has committed multiple violations of the agreement…,” Trump claimed then.

Addressing these remarks, Kerry said, “The violation idea has been pulled out of the sky. There is no science, no evidence that would merit decertification.”

“China and Russia played significant roles in JCPOA, a truly global effort; we need more of that not less.” the former U.S. secretary of state said.

The 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group (Russia, China, the U.S., Britain, France, and Germany) was reached in July 2015 and came into force in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was reached, the International Atomic Energy Agency has in eight reports confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA.
