TEHRAN (Iran News) – By the end of the current [Iranian calendar] year (March 2022), the number of villages with no unemployed residents will reach 1,100 across the country.

With the beginning of the national campaign called “Blessed Village”, 1,100 villages of the country will not have any unemployed people by the end of this year.

The Barekat Charity Foundation, affiliated with the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, has supported 110,000 community-based job plans in 8,400 deprived villages of the country, creating 330,000 jobs.

A total of 100 trillion rials (nearly $2.3 billion at the official rate of 42,000 rials) have so far been allocated to create 330,000 jobs in the deprived villages, IRIB reported on Saturday.

Currently, there are 100 villages in the country with no unemployed people, another 1,000 villages will be added to this number by the end of this year.

The Barekat Foundation aims to create 70,000 community-based job projects in rural areas this year, which will lead to the creation of 210,000 job opportunities.

The number of villages covered by the Foundation’s employment activities will increase to 12,000 by the end of this year.

Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam was founded in 1989. In the Iranian calendar year, 1386 (March 2017-March 2018) Barekat Charity Foundation- the social arm of the organization- with the aim of promoting social justice was established.

Socio-economic empowerment of communities by encouraging entrepreneurship prioritizing breadwinner women, developing infrastructures such as water supply and power grids, building roads, constructing schools and increasing educational spaces, promoting health for all, granting non-repayable loans and insurance especially in less developed areas and regions most affected by 1980s war and natural disasters are of the priorities of the charity foundation.

Rural development budget increases by 2.5 folds

Currently, 26 percent of the country’s population lives in villages, around 39,000 villages have more than 20 households and 23,000 villages have less than 20 households.

Thus, more than 97 percent of the country’s rural population lives in villages with over 20,000 households.

The budget for rural development projects has increased by 2.5 times in the current [Iranian calendar] year (March 2021-March 2022) compared to that of the previous year, Mohammad Reza Shamloo deputy head of the Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution has announced in July.

A total of 80 trillion rials (nearly $1.9 billion at the official rate of 42,000 rials) were allocated this year for the implementation of rural development projects across the country, he added.

The credit will be spent on preparing, reviewing, and implementing the rural plans, improving the rural infrastructure, and the development of the villages, he explained.

Rural-urban migration reverse

In Iran, where villages account for generating 20-23 percent of the value-added in the country, the development of rural areas has been always a top agenda of the governments’ activities.

Many efforts have been made over the past couple of years by the government to support villagers and slow down the trend of migration from rural areas to cities.

Rural tourism, agritourism, religious tourism, and ecotourism are alternatives or complementary economic activities that could further stimulate rural development while decreasing rural community dependency on one main economic sector (agriculture, forestry, energy, or mining).

Mohammad Omid, the vice president for rural development, said in November 2020 that for the first time in the country, the migration of people from rural areas to cities has reached zero.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Eight years after arriving from Brazil, Rennan Yamashita sat in a government office in central Japan, filling out forms for unemployment insurance after losing his job for the ninth or 10th time — he has lost count.

Some weeks earlier, he was laid off from his job at a car parts factory. He only held that job for four months, Reuters reported.

“If they need you, they hire you; if they don’t need you, they’ll fire you. It’s simple like that,” said Yamashita.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit Japan’s economy hard and many factories, including those of carmakers, are scaling back production.

Foreign workers are particularly vulnerable, with a weaker support network and language barriers that prevent them from seeking government help.

Union groups, labor lawyers, and nonprofit organizations say foreign workers such as Yamashita are the first to lose jobs in “corona cuts”, which they fear may expand to the kind of mass layoffs seen in the 2008 financial crisis.

Last month, the Japan Center for Economic Research estimated that if Japan’s GDP contracted by 25 percent this year, the unemployment rate would reach five percent and about two million people could lose their jobs.

In March and April, a labor organization based in Mie, a manufacturing center about 300km west of Tokyo, received 400 consultations from laborers who were affected by the coronavirus. About 330 were foreign workers.

“Foreign workers on short-term contracts are laid off first,” because they’re easier to fire, Union Mie organizer Akai Jimbu said.

Last year, 34.5 percent of foreign employees in Mie were temporary workers, compared with the national average of 2.5 percent.

“It’s almost like they’re hired so that they can be fired when the going gets tough,” Jimbu said. “They’re just a spare bolt in the eyes of the employer.”

Japan has become increasingly reliant on foreign labor. With a third of its population over 65 and a smaller working population, the government has eased some immigration restrictions.

More than 1.6 million foreign workers supported the Japanese economy as of October 2019 — a four-fold increase from 2008.

A Labor Ministry official said the ministry does not officially track the number of foreign workers laid off because it provides “support to all workers” regardless of their nationality.

Still, the government recently allocated 370 million yen ($3.46 million) to improve multilingual support for foreigners at unemployment offices and online.

But most foreign workers don’t turn to the government for help. While Union Mie handled hundreds of consultations this year through mid-April, the local Labor Ministry office saw only seven.

Kaori Nakao, a Japanese-Brazilian woman, sought help from the union when her employer laid her off from a car component factory at the end of March.

The company told her she was being fired because of coronavirus-related production cuts. Nakao was also ordered to leave her company apartment.

Pregnant with her fourth child and with no savings, she asked Union Mie for help. Last month, union members and Nakao protested outside her employer’s office and the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems factory where she worked.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems declined to comment because it did not employ Nakao.

“I just want to work,” Nakao said. “I have zero money and I can’t even buy food for my children.”

Yamashita, who is still looking for jobs, said he had found an open position at another car parts factory a few weeks ago.

The contract was only for three months — maybe even less. Still, Yamashita said, it was something. He interviewed for the job and was looking forward to a respite from searching.

But then he got a call. The position wasn’t available anymore. “We are the first to go,” he said of foreigners working in Japan. “I already know about that.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – New investment, as part of the transition to a sustainable energy future would increase renewables jobs to 42 million globally by 2050, four times more than today, data obtained by Anadolu Agency from International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) recent report revealed Wednesday

According to the IRENA’s Global Renewables Outlook: Energy transformation 2050 report, energy jobs overall will reach 100 million by 2050, about 40 million more than today.

The transition will also help support environmental and health benefits, and broad improvements in people’s welfare will be felt in every region of the world, the report showed.

According to IRENA, a successful transition is dependent on appropriate education and capacity building policies from which a new workforce will be able to install, operate, and maintain the projected renewable energy capacities.

In 2050, energy efficiency could employ 21.3 million people with the possibility of 14.5 million people working in jobs related to power grids and energy flexibility by 2050, the agency predicted.

However, IRENA stated that although the agency’s future scenario would lead to an overall increase in energy sector employment, jobs would be lost in some sub-sectors, namely those related to fossil fuels.

– IRENA’s pathway to 2050

According to the report, significant acceleration is needed across a range of sectors and technologies to include deeper electrification of end-use sectors with higher shares of renewables.

“Looking at the regional findings, some trends can be identified. In terms of energy demand growth, while energy use does not increase in Europe, the MENA region and
North America and other regions see some growth,” IRENA stated.

According to the report, the highest shares of renewable energy in total primary energy supply in 2030 will be reached by Latin America and the Caribbean, at 53%, followed by Sub-Saharan Africa at 43%.

“The EU would be at 31%. In contrast, the MENA region would have the lowest share of just 9%.”

However, IRENA suggests that by 2050 regional developments will be different, with the highest shares of renewables in total primary energy supply (TPES) reached in Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania, at levels above 80%, followed by Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the EU above 70%. Similar to 2030, the MENA region will still have the lowest share at just 26% in 2050.

A growing number of staffers at the White House are starting to look for other jobs to leave the administration of Republican President Donald Trump due to low morale, uncertainty and continued infighting among aides, according to a new report.

Staffers from the National Economic Council, the communications office and even political appointees are reaching out to headhunters, lobbyists, and Republican operatives for help finding their next job, the Politico news organization reported Friday.

There will be a mass exodus from the Trump administration in January 2018 even though the one-year mark of Trump’s first term is still months away, a Republican lobbyist said.

“Everyone says, ‘I just need to stay for one year.’ If you leave before a year, it looks like you are acknowledging that you made a mistake,” he said.

Two Washington-based recruiters confirmed that they had received job requests from multiple White House staffers.

“There is no joy in Trumpworld right now,” said one adviser in frequent contact with several staffers. “Working in the White House is supposed to be the peak of your career, but everyone is unhappy, and everyone is fighting everyone else.”

White House political positions are notorious for causing burnout, with long hours and low pay in a high-stress, competitive environment, regardless of who is president. But turnovers typically begin after the two-year mark.

About 23 White House staffers have already resigned or been fired since January, including high-profile departures such as former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former chief strategist Steve Bannon and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

This file photo taken on January 22, 2017 shows (L-R) Senior Adviser to the President Jared Kushner, then-Counselor to the President Stephen Bannon and then-White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus raising their hands during the swearing-in of senior staff in the East Room of the White House. (Photo by AFP)

The constant departures and changes in leadership could make it difficult for the White House to attract Republicans or top policy experts for new job vacancies, said one executive recruiter.

It is likely that controversy over Trump’s policy positions will make it harder for people to find work in other industries.

“The question ultimately is whether people face a reputational risk by serving in this administration. Will it hurt people?” one Washington-based recruiter asked.

“Some people are a little nervous that corporations will hold their time in the Trump White House against them, particularly companies like Google or Uber or tech players,” said one GOP strategist.
