Barekat Foundation has put the priority on breadwinners and vulnerable women for implementing its job-creating plans, IRNA quoted Torkamaneh as saying.

To date, 203,000 job-creating plans have been implemented in less developed areas of the country, creating jobs for 610,000 persons directly and indirectly.

From a total of 203,000 society-based job-creating plans which have been so far launched across rural and less developed areas of the country, 42 percent, equaling 85,000 plans, have been allocated to women entrepreneurs, he explained.
To date, 203,000 job-creating plans have been implemented in less developed areas of the country, creating jobs for 610,000 persons, directly and indirectly, he added.

Some 23 trillion rials (about $75 million) have been invested in launching the plans, he noted.

Barekat Charity Foundation, affiliated with the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, was established in 2007. Socio-economic empowerment of communities by encouraging entrepreneurship prioritizing breadwinner women, developing infrastructures such as water supply and power grids, building roads, constructing schools and increasing educational spaces, promoting health for all, and granting non-repayable loans and insurance, especially in less developed areas and regions most affected by natural disasters are of the priorities of the charity foundation.

In June, Torkamaneh said building more than 8,000 houses, 200 schools, 200 mosques, cultural and religious centers, as well as 30 health centers, implementing 700 water supply projects, and reviving 600 qanats are on the agenda.

He went on to say that the Foundation has supported livestock farming projects, and currently, the number of livestock reaches up to 5.5 million.

Last year, the clients produced over 120,000 square meters of carpet, a large part of which is produced in villages and supplied to domestic and foreign markets.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Barekat plans to generate 9,300 jobs for persons with disabilities. Barekat Charity Foundation, affiliated with the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, will open up 9,300 jobs for persons with disabilities, YJC reported on Saturday.

Mohammad Mokhber, head of the Foundation, said that so far, some 3,300 jobs have been provided to the physically challenged people, and some 6,000 are planned to be created over the current [Iranian calendar] year (March 21).

“We have launched 1100 job plans for the disabled and will launch another 2,000 plans with the cooperation of the Welfare Organization to invest in entrepreneurial ideas of the disabled,” he explained, adding, these plans will result in the creation of 9,300 jobs.

To achieve this number of job opportunities, a sum of 2.7 trillion rials (nearly $64.2 million at the official rate of 42,000 rials) is invested in rural areas of the country, he noted.

He went on to say that livestock farming, technical services, shoemaking, clothing production, handicrafts, handmade carpet, and poultry farming are among these jobs.

This year, we will launch 70,000 community-based employment projects leading to the creation of 210,000 micro and domestic jobs, of which 20,000 are for vulnerable groups such as female-headed households, families of prisoners, the disabled, and families of children who have dropped out of school, he explained.

Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam was founded in 1989. In the Iranian calendar year, 1386 (March 2017-March 2018) Barekat Charity Foundation- the social arm of the organization- with the aim of promoting social justice was established.

Socio-economic empowerment of communities by encouraging entrepreneurship prioritizing breadwinner women, developing infrastructures such as water supply and power grids, building roads, constructing schools and increasing educational spaces, promoting health for all, granting non-repayable loans and insurance especially in less developed areas and regions most affected by 1980s war and natural disasters are of the priorities of the charity foundation.

Over 1.3m persons with disabilities live in Iran

Pirouz Hanachi, the mayor of Tehran, said in December 2019 that over 1.3 million people suffering from disabilities live in the country and the figure rises by 50,000 every year.

Majlis [the Iranian parliament] approved both general outlines and details of a bill on the rights of persons with disabilities in January 2018. Development of disability-friendly cities, free transportation, health insurance, free education, job creation, housing loans, and fewer working hours are some of the articles of the law.

Since the approval of the law, education for students with disabilities has been provided in Azad universities, subsidies for patients with spinal cord injury as well as disability care centers have been increased, in addition to residential units to families having members with disabilities.

Asghar Shirzadi, chairman of the board of the Iranian association of the disabled, said in December 2020 that it still seems that the related organizations are not very willing to implement the law.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A total budget of 30 trillion rials (nearly $714 million at the official rate of 42,000 rials) has been allocated to create 60,000 jobs for the underprivileged individuals covered by the Welfare Organization, IRNA reported on Saturday.

“Our commitment last year (March 2020-March 2021) was to facilitate the employment of 56,716 people, while we were able to facilitate the employment of 59,304 people,” Zolfaqar Yazdanmehr, deputy head of the Welfare Organization stated.

Some 1.6 million disabled people are covered by the Welfare Organization and about 240,000 women heads of households are also covered by this organization, while more than one million families receive pensions.

In Iran, there are 3 million women-headed households, out of a total of 22 million families, and most of them can be found in less developed areas of the country, according to the UNDP office in Iran.

The Welfare Organization also will provide 35,169 residential units for the underprivileged families across the country over the current [Iranian calendar] year (started March 20).

Also, the construction of 10,000 housing units will also begin this year, Yazdanmehr said.

Currently, 26 percent of the country’s population lives in villages, around 39,000 villages have more than 20 households and 23,000 villages have less than 20 households.

Thus, more than 97 percent of the country’s rural population lives in villages with over 20,000 households.

Many efforts have been made over the past couple of years by the government to support villagers and slow down the trend of migration from rural areas to cities.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

TEHRAN – Secretary of Iranian Free Zones High Council Morteza Bank in a TV program on the occasion of the Government Week said some 510,000 jobs have been created in the free trade and economic zones, adding that over 95 percent of the employed in economic zones and 40 percent employed in free zones are busy in the production and industry sectors.

Mr. Bank said that 95 percent of occupation in the special economic zones is in production sector, reiterating all of 210,000 people who are active in the special zones are all in production sector and they are not active services sector.

He said all investments in the special economic zones, like Lamard, Shiraz, Salafchegan, Kerman and Sirjan zones are in production, are fromthe private sector and the government has not injected even one rial into the zones.

Mr. Bank then pointed to the statistics of occupation in the free trade zones and said 40 percent of the occupation belongs to the production sector, over 30 percent to the services sector and some 20 percent to the jobs related to the stores and miscellaneous.

He further said the international stock market is to be launched on Kish Island in the next two months, reiterating that all activities in the free zones are in compliance with international norms.

He then pointed to using cultural figures in the national free zones, noting that one of the honors of the council is that it has succeeded in linking the cultural community of the society to the free zones and one of the big goals of the free zones is to link with the local communities who are very influential in economic development and cultural processes.

Mr. Bank stated that there are general regulations for economic, cultural, social and political activities but free zones are run with special and certain regulations that some of them are only economic, social and cultural.

He further said that economic activities in the zones can speed up if the infrastructures are ready aotherwise in case the infrastructures are not ready, all activities slow down.

On using the domestic or foreign investors in the free zones like Assalouyeh, he said Assalouyeh is a special economic zone and one of the biggest and most important parts of national economy.

He added most investments in Assalouyeh are done by the government sector but the participation of private sector especially in the petrochemical sector in the zone has increased.

Mr. Bank added that one of the biggest developmental parts of the country is in the petrochemical sector especially in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ), saying that most of oil and chemical products are exported from this zone as some part of the investment in this zone is governmental and some part by private sector.

He reiterated that PSEEZ is one of the biggest achievements of the Islamic Revolution, adding that Iran’s contract with Japan on developing petrochemical sector in the zone had been prepared before the revolution but after the revolution, the Japanese left the contract due to several reasons and paid the damage, and Japanese’s money was spent on developing Assalouyeh by the then government.

He said today the amount of petrochemical exports from Assalouyeh is valued at $20b.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Payroll figures in the UK show 730,000 people have lost their jobs since the start of the coronavirus crisis lockdown as the country braces for an expected acceleration in unemployment.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed a leap of 81,000 last month alone despite continuing support for employers via government loan vehicles and the Job Retention Scheme for furloughed workers.

The claimant count – which covers those claiming benefits for unemployment and because they are on low incomes – rose 116.8% to 2.7 million between March and July.

There was evidence too of a wider squeeze on incomes with regular pay falling by 0.2% in the three months to June compared to the same period last year.

That represented, the ONS said, the first negative growth in regular nominal earnings since records began in 2001, Sky News reported.

The figures were released hours before the Treasury was due to give an update on take-up of its various support schemes that, at their height, saw the pay of 9.5 million workers be supported through the Job Retention Scheme.

That number has gradually fallen back as the economy has re-opened from its COVID-19 hibernation.

Commenting on its findings, ONS deputy national statistician for economic statistics Jonathan Athow said: “The labor market continues recent trends, with a fall in employment and significantly reduced hours of work as many people are furloughed.

“Figures from our main survey show there has been a rise in people without a job and not looking for one, though wanting to work. In addition, there are still a large number of people who say they are working no hours and getting zero pay.

“The falls in employment are greatest among the youngest and oldest workers, along with those in lower-skilled jobs.

“Vacancies numbers began to recover in July, especially in small businesses and sectors such as hospitality, but demand for workers remains depressed.”

The number of people registered as seeking work jumped by 843,000 from March to 4,575,500, the highest since records began in 1996, the Labor Ministry said, Reuters reported.

The ministry said that the surge was due to a nearly 35% drop in the number of people getting new jobs while the number of people joining the tally fell 19%.

The data do not include people who have been put on state-subsided furloughs during the crisis, which the ministry said on Wednesday numbered nearly 13 million.

France’s government put the country under one of the most strict lockdowns in Europe in mid-March and the country is only gradually emerging after most restrictions were lifted on May 11.

TEHRAN — Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation has allocated some 40 trillion rials (nearly $950 million) to job creation for 200,000 individuals in the current Iranian calendar year (March 2018-March 2019), the foundation’s head has said.

Last year, the foundation allocated some 24 trillion rials (nearly $570 million) for job creation for 135,000 people, IRIB quoted Parviz Fattah as saying on Sunday.

Boosting job creation is one of the primary objectives of the foundation which will be accomplished by soliciting support from parliament and the banks, Fattah highlighted.

The Tehran province’s office of the foundation has created some 6,000 jobs and granted loans amounting to 700 billion rials (nearly $16.5 million) to the families who are in financial distress in the province over the past Iranian calendar year.

The director general of Tehran province’s office of the foundation, Mohsen Valiee, has explained that the money was granted to the families to help them create jobs. “The sum is not very considerable but it has enabled some families to start small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).”

Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation is a charitable organization, founded in March 1979, after the Islamic Revolution, to provide support for families who are struggling financially. The aim is to help such families regain financial stability.
