TEHRAN (Iran News) – Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn has said the assassination of Iran’s top general and head of the Quds Force Qasem Soleimani by the United States was “illegal under any law”.

The United States must not violate laws if it wants other countries to stand by international law, he said in an interview with Sky News, according to Sputnik.

His statement comes after Corbyn lambasted Washington for the assassination of Lieutenant General Soleimani and demanded answers from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace over the issue.

In his speech to the House of Commons, Corbyn called Washington’s move an “extremely dangerous and aggressive act” that may plunge the Middle East into yet another war.

He claimed British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hiding behind Defence Secretary Wallace as he demanded answers on Britain’s response to the escalation of tensions between Iran and the United States.

Corbyn reminded parliamentarians of US interventions in the Middle East and stressed that Parliament must prevent Britain from aiding the United States in yet another military conflict in an apparent reference to the UK’s support for the US invasion of Iraq, which was regarded as illegal by the international community.

“Many of us opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the failed invasion of Afghanistan and I opposed the bombing of Libya in 2011. Have we learnt nothing from those events?

This House must rule out plunging our country into yet another devastating war at the behest of another state”, Jeremy Corbyn said in his speech to the House of Commons.

The Labour leader also criticised Britain’s reaction to the assassination of Gen. Soleimani, in particular, the fact that the UK’s call for calm was directed at the injured party – Iran.

“I wonder if Iran had assassinated an American general whether the British government would be telling Washington that the onus was entirely on the US to de-escalate”, Corbyn told MPs.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Britain’s labor party, main opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn apologized to supporters on Sunday for overseeing his Labor party’s worst election defeat since before World War II.

But the veteran socialist defended his far-left campaign platform and gave no clear indication of when he might step down.

“I will make no bones about it. The election result on Thursday was a body blow for everyone who so desperately needs real change in our country,” labor party chief, Corbyn wrote in the Sunday Mirror newspaper.

“I wanted to unite the country that I love but I’m sorry that we came up short and I take my responsibility for it”, AFP reported.

Thursday’s snap general election handed Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservatives a mandate to take Britain out of the European Union at the end of next month.

Corbyn said on Friday that he would step down at some point early next year.

But the century-old party has no clear successor and is being riven by infighting within its senior ranks.

Labor’s campaign was dogged by voter doubts about its vague position on Brexit.

Corbyn tried to shift the campaign’s focus on bread-and-butter social issues traditionally important to Labor voters.

“But despite our best efforts, this election was ultimately about Brexit,” Corbyn admitted in his letter.

“The Tory campaign, amplified by most of the media, managed to persuade many that only Boris Johnson could ‘get Brexit done’,” he said in reference to Johnson’s campaign slogan.

“We will learn the lessons of this defeat, above all by listening to those lifelong Labor voters who we’ve lost in working-class communities.”

Labor’s Corbyn Accuses Johnson of Offering Up UK Health Service in US Talks

Opposition Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn offered on Wednesday what he described as evidence that access to Britain’s health service was being discussed in trade talks with the United States, handing reporters hundreds of pages of documents.

Johnson has repeatedly denied that Britain’s National Health Service is on the table in such talks, but Corbyn said he had copies of leaked documents from UK-US Trade and Investment working groups that proved otherwise.

The NHS, much loved in Britain, has become a key fighting ground before an election on Dec. 12, called to try to break the deadlock in parliament over the country’s departure from the European Union that has muddied traditional political loyalties.

Corbyn may also be keen to shift the narrative to the NHS and away from criticism on Tuesday over what Britain’s chief rabbi said was his failure to stem anti-Semitism in his party that had allowed “a new poison” to take root in Labor, Reuters reported.

Corbyn, who has argued that Johnson’s Conservatives will allow the United States to increase drug prices as part of a post-Brexit trade deal, said he had 451 pages of unredacted documents on talks between the two countries.

“Perhaps he (Johnson) would like to explain why these documents confirm the US is demanding the NHS is on the table in the trade talks,” he told a news conference.

“These uncensored documents leave Boris Johnson’s denials in absolute tatters.”

To huge cheers and chants of “Johnson out!”, the Labor leader said the prime minister should become the shortest-ever serving leader and that his party was ready to form a government.

“I invite Boris Johnson, in the historic words, to ‘consider his position’ and become the shortest prime minister there’s ever been,” he told delegates at the Labor Party’s annual conference in Brighton.

On the judges verdict, Corbyn said: “It demonstrates a contempt for democracy and an abuse of democracy by him.”

“I will be in touch with (Speaker Bercow) immediately so that we demand parliament is recalled so we can question the prime minister and demand that he obeys the law that has been passed by parliament.”

The Supreme Court’s president, Lady Hale said it would be for the speakers of the House of Commons and House of Lords to “take immediate steps to enable each House to meet as soon as possible”.

“Unless there is some Parliamentary rule of which we are unaware, they can take immediate steps to enable each House to meet as soon as possible,” she continued.

Unveiling the verdict of 11 justices, she said the prorogation of parliament itself was “void and of no effect” and therefore parliament has not been suspended.

In a statement released moments the unanimous ruling in central London, John Bercow, the Commons speaker, said he would be consulting with party leaders as to when parliament should reconvene. “I welcome the Supreme Court’s judgment that the prorogation of parliament was unlawful,” he said, The Independent reported.

Bercow added: “The judges have rejected the government’s claim that closing down parliament for five weeks was merely standard practice to allow for a new Queen’s Speech.”

“In reaching their conclusion, they have vindicated the right and duty of parliament to meet at this crucial time to scrutinize the executive and hold ministers to account. As the embodiment of our parliamentary democracy, the House of Commons must convene without delay. To this end, I will now consult the party leaders as a matter of urgency.”

Keir Starmer, the shadow Brexit secretary, added that prime minister’s questions should take place on Wednesday, so that Johnson, who is currently in New York and the United Nations general assembly, can be interrogated by MPs.

Former Conservative cabinet minister, Amber Rudd, who resigned from the government over Johnson’s approach to Brexit, said: “Despite personal assurances from the PM, the cabinet was not shown the legal advice around this prorogation.

“This is an astonishing moment and I regret that the PM, who entered office with such goodwill, went down this route. I urge him to work with parliament to pass a deal.”

British opposition Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn moved a step closer to paving the way for another referendum on European Union membership by trying to use parliament to grab control of Brexit from Prime Minister Theresa May.

With the clock ticking down to March 29, the date set in law for Brexit, the United Kingdom is in the deepest political crisis in half a century as it grapples with how, or even whether, to exit the European project it joined in 1973, Reuters reported.

After May’s Brexit divorce deal was rejected by 432-202 lawmakers last week, the biggest defeat in modern British history, some lawmakers are trying to take control of Brexit from May’s weakened minority government.

May on Monday proposed tweaking her deal, a bid to win over rebel Conservative lawmakers and the Northern Irish party which props up her government, but Labor said May was in denial about the crushing defeat of her plans.

Labor put forward an amendment seeking to force the government to give parliament time to consider and vote on options to prevent a ‘no deal’ exit – a course May has repeatedly refused to rule out.

Among the options, Labor said, should be a permanent customs union with the EU and “a public vote on a deal” – both proposals that May has ruled out.

As the British parliament, which traces its roots through a 1,000 years of history, tries to avoid what most lawmakers think would be a disorderly Brexit without an approved deal, there is still no clear majority for an alternative option.

Lawmakers will debate and vote on the next steps on Jan. 29.

Jeremy Corbyn, the British politician who has been serving as Leader of the Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition since 2015 in the UK, is now trying to provide the ground for his own victory and the Labor Party in the country’s possible election in 2019. It seems that after his success in defeating figures such as Tony Blair, he has more incentives for pursuing his goals.

This is in spite of the fact that Corbyn is still facing opposition inside the Labor Party and, of course, rival parties. Opponents who, from the beginning of Corbyn’s presence as the leader of the Labor Party, didn’t have a positive view on his presence as the party’s candidate in the upcoming general election.

At the beginning of Corbyn’s presence in the Labor Party, the security institutions and opposition parties in the UK, and even some inter-party opponents, explicitly referred to him as a dangerous person at the head of the Party’s equations and wanted to curb his activities.

These institutions and individuals believed that Corbyn would soon disagree with the structure of the British royal system. Even two years ago, British sources reported about Corbyn’s negative attitude to the royal system and his support for Republicans. However, the leader of the Labor Party was silent against some of these allegations and denied some others.

Recently, while criticizing the agreement reached between Prime Minister Theresa May and European leaders over the Brexit, Corbyn announced a resumption of talks with European leaders (in the event of a government change). However, European officials, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have emphasized that there will be no further talks between the two sides on how to leave the EU.

Of course, Merkel has emphasized that the European Union has made contributions to London to facilitate its exit from the EU!
Jeremy Corbyn is now focusing on the most important issue in British foreign policy. Corbyn is determined to force EU leaders to resume talks on Brexit through changing the British government. Following his relative victory in the previous general election in Britain, Corbyn found a lot of power in the Labor Party.

With no doubt, Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labor Party was the winner of the last year’s election in Britain. Jeremy Corbyn could prevent the Conservatives to win the majority of the House of Commons’ seats within a very short time (about a month and a half).

Certainly, if Corbyn and his companions were not involved, Theresa May would achieve her goal of winning the majority of seats in the House of Commons. Of course, the conservative leaders and some British analysts accused Corbyn of using populist methods in the previous election. But the leader of the Labor Party denied all the accusations.

We are currently witnessing the strengthening of Jeremy Corbyn’s position at the head of the Labor Party in the UK. Corbyn has now entered the scene with one specific goal: Brexit. Corbyn’s inner-party opponents sought to provide ground for his removal after the party’s estimated defeat in the last year’s general election. As mentioned, politicians such as the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair (from the Labor Party) has been among the main opponents of Corbyn’s presence in the leadership of the party.

The Guardian wrote accordingly; “While Corbyn has already faced criticism from the centrist wing of his party, which has long been skeptical of his approach to Brexit, the expressions of dismay from his base will raise concerns of broader disillusionment with his strategy”.

This British newspaper also noted that following Corbyn’s interview with the Guardian on Saturday, in which he said he would recommend the party advocates Brexit in the event of a fresh vote and criticized EU laws on state aid, which he said blocked investment, Momentum activists and MPs from Labor’s left who have consistently backed Jeremy Corbyn have warned the leader’s decision to support Brexit even if there is a second referendum could demotivate campaigners and cost the party seats.

While the EU’s deadline for the UK is about to expire, the internal and foreign policy in Britain remain foggy. Under such circumstances, it’s not clear that how would Theresa May direct and manage the Brexit negotiations. The UK’s delay in beginning the negotiations, and the recent events in the country’s parliamentary elections has caused European leaders not to have a positive outlook towards the talks.

The fact is that Theresa May couldn’t achieve her determined goals during the negotiations with Brussels. The critical attitudes among the conservatives, Jeremy Corbyn’s stances, and the worried face of the European leaders…, all these factors hurt the British Prime Minister at this critical period.

British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal is the “worst of all worlds,” opposition Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said in the House of Commons on Thursday.

His comments came soon after the publication of the political declaration on the framework for the U.K.’s future relations with the European Union.

“These 26 pages are a testament to the failure of the (Conservatives’) bungled negotiations. Nineteen extra pages but nothing has changed,” Corbyn said, adding that it fell short of his party’s tests to support the deal.

“It represents the worst of all worlds: no say over the rules that will continue to apply and no certainty for the future.”

Following her statement to Parliament, May was then forced to defend her deal from all sides of the political spectrum, CNBC reported Sunday.

Sir Bill Cash, a Conservative Brexiteer and chair of the European scrutiny committee, said the document is “self-contradictory” as European judges would still have a role in deciding British laws.

Cash announced that the committee that he heads will now hold an inquiry into the government’s handling of the Brexit talks.

Several Brexit supporting lawmakers also called on May to remove the “backstop agreement” from the withdrawal agreement. The backstop is a safety net that has been put in place to ensure that no hard border is erected between the Republic of Ireland, which is staying in the European Union, and Northern Ireland, which will leave in March as part of the United Kingdom.

Sir Jeffery Donaldson, the Democratic Unionist Party’s (DUP) chief whip, said the backstop is unacceptable to his party. Without the support of the DUP, May would likely fail to get parliamentary approval for her withdrawal deal when a vote is held at some point in December.
