Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi announced in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday that the Zafar (victory) satellites have successfully passed the tests.

Lauding the efforts by the young Iranian scientists working on the project, he said the satellites would be deployed to the space center on Sunday and the process of launching them into orbit will soon kick-off.

Azari Jahromi also hailed the production of the homegrown satellites and satellite-carrier as a major step in space research activities.

Zafar is a monitoring satellite, which will be sent into a geostationary orbit that is a circular orbit around 36,000 kilometers (22,320 miles) above the Earth’s equator.

The satellite will reportedly have a lifespan of one year and six months and will capture images and transmit them to stations on earth.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi has warned of a rise in cyber threats in the world, saying Tehran has foiled some 33 million cyber attacks over the past year alone.

Azari Jahromi made the remarks in an address to a ministerial gathering of the Munich Security Conference Core Group Meeting, chaired by the MSC chairman Wolfgang Ischinger, in the Qatari capital of Doha on Tuesday.

He added that cyber threats are currently endangering the security of people and a wide range of services related to their lives.

“Unilateralism and resorting to sanctions constitute threats against international security in the cyber sector,” said the ICT minister, underlining the need for “multilateral mechanisms” as “the solution to cybersecurity problems in the world.”

He noted that Iran, as a victim of cyber attacks, would continue to play an effective role in designing international initiatives aimed at dealing with the scourge.

The Core Group Meeting in Doha brings together 60 to 80 senior political decision-makers, experts, and representatives of international organizations and civil society from the region with counterparts from Germany, Europe and other parts of the world for frank discussions.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Iranian ICT minister held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

In May, Mohamamd Javad Azari Jahromi said Iran has developed an indigenous firewall securing its sensitive industrial facilities against Stuxnet, a cyber weapon widely believed to be made by the US and Israel and used in the past to target the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program.

Iran said in November last year that it has successfully thwarted a wave of cyberattacks apparently staged by Israel to target the country’s communications infrastructure, saying it will certainly follow up on the “hostile” scheme via international mechanisms.

Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi, Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology (ICT), who was summoned to Iranian parliament to answer the questions posed by two MPs, managed to convince the legislators with his explanation.

The two questions were jointly submitted by Seyyedeh Hamideh Zarabadi, the MP from the Constituency of Qazvin, and Seyyedeh Fatemeh Hosseini, the MP from the Constituency of Tehran.

They wanted to know what happened to the projects defined in 2012-13 to upgrade and renovate data transit networks. The second question was why those projects were replaced with Tadbir (shrewdness) Project. Also they interrogated the minister about maintenance contracts.

After the questions were read in the open meeting of Sunday, the Iranian ICT minister got behind the lectern and offered his explanation.

After the two MPs posing the questions said that they did not get convinced with Azari Jahromi’s responses, the questioning was put to the vote. The lawmakers voted for the ICT minister and the questioning was annulled. Out of 205 legislators present in the meeting, 98 MPs voted for the minister, 87 MPs voted against, and 7 lawmakers abstained.

“What’s clear is the fact that the good capacity created for developing entrepreneurship, job market, and business was abused by a small group and the consequences were visible in the last days,” said Minister of Communications and Information Technology (ICT) Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi.

The Iranian minister made the remarks on Wednesday, touching upon the point that social networking applications and the Internet were abused by some pro-riot groups to promote anarchy and terrorist attacks across Iran.

“Many damages were inflicted on people’s serene life with this pretext and the challenge was to choose between what was happening and the proper use of the nation; on one side the restrictions could cause unhappiness and on the other side the social security was threatened,” he noted.

“Both free access to information and the right to be secure are delineated in the civil rights charter which is up to govermment and the SNSC (Supreme National Security Council) to be enforced under the chair of Interior Minister Mr. Rahmani Fazli,” added Mr. Azari Jahromi.

“There are many Telegram channels encouraging their subscribers to conduct terrorist operations or corruptive acts,” said the minister.

“There are numerous Telegram channels which promote violence and terrorist acts, we have statistics and evidence but we have not publicized tem not to promote violence,” he said. “There were channels encouraging people to set officials’ houses, mosques, and military places on fire,” he recounted.

“These kind of measures are not allowed in any country,” he asserted.

A group of hackers tried to target a number of Iranian sites last night in a defacement attack, Azari Jahromi said on Tuesday.

He added that the attacks were foiled by Iranian cyber-security experts who vigilantly managed to trace and identify the attackers’ domain.

Attaching great importance to cyber-space security, the minister said Iran plans to train some 10,000 cyber-security specialists within 4 years to prevent any similar attacks on the country’s websites.

Last year, Iran’s Civil Defense Organization unveiled plans for developing a nationwide alarm system that would alert the country’s organizations to possible cyberattacks.

It came after a spate of cyberattacks against Iranian websites in June 2016.

TEHRAN – Iran’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi and his South African counterpart agreed to promote cooperation between the two countries in the area of information communication technology (ICT).

In a meeting held on the sidelines of ITU Telecom World 2017, taking place in Busan, South Korea, Azari Jahromi and Azwihangwisi Faith Muthambi discussed development of bilateral cooperation in the field.

The two sides agreed to increase joint investments in ICT, conduct joint research in LEO (low earth orbits) satellite systems, and cooperate in e-commerce and cyber-security.

Speaking at the meeting, Muthambi hailed Iran’s achievements in ICT research and called for closer cooperation between the two countries in the area.

Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who was re-elected back in May, has repeatedly stressed his government’s interest in boosting relations with the African states.
