TEHRAN (Iran News) – ‘Iran ready to contribute to Azerbaijan’s economic projects’. A Trade Delegation from Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province traveled to Baku on Tuesday for a three-day visit to the neighboring country, during which they expressed Iran’s readiness for participating in Azerbaijan’s economic projects.

As IRNA reported, the delegation was headed by East Azarbaijan Province’s Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Ali Jahangiri.

Upon returning to Tabriz on Thursday, Jahangiri told the press that positive talks have been held with Azeri officials for expanding economic and trade cooperation during the visit.

Iranian companies can cooperate with their Azeri counterparts in the fields of industrial and construction products and materials to provide such products in the recently liberated Karabakh region, he said.

According to the official, distance and lower transportation costs are important factors that make Iran and especially East Azarbaijan Province a great source of such materials for Azerbaijan.

“Even foreign companies that are already working in industrial and construction projects in the Karabakh region can supply their required products and materials from Iran,” he said.

Jahangiri noted that during his visit, the participation of Iranian companies, including those from East Azarbaijan Province, in the reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories in the Karabakh region was discussed with Azeri officials.

The official noted that the main goal of the visit to the neighboring country was to introduce the capacities and capabilities of Iranian companies and especially those of East Azarbaijan Province.

He also mentioned the holding of an exhibition on Iran’s economic and industrial capabilities in Baku as one of the topics discussed during the visit.

Referring to the high economic and industrial capabilities of East Azarbaijan province, Jahangiri said: “We have more than 4,000 industrial units and 27 production units that have high technological and industrial capabilities and the production capacity of East Azarbaijan province is very high.”

The official further mentioned the two sides talks on modernizing the two countries trade and said: “In various meetings, and especially in the meeting with the head of Azerbaijan’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Agency, it was emphasized that we should move beyond traditional trade and have technological and industrial cooperation, make joint investments in various industries, and have technological cooperation.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri described the free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as a good opportunity for the country’s economy and called on the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade and other relevant organizations to set a timetable for the finalization of the agreement and follow it seriously.

In a meeting to review the latest status of Iran’s relations with Eurasia, which was chaired by him, the official named free trade with neighboring countries as a way to develop Iran’s economy, industry and agriculture and said that the free trade between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union not only is not a threat to domestic production, but provides a large market for the country’s manufactured goods.

In the meeting, which was also attended by the ministers of energy as well as industry, mining and trade, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Bank of Iran, Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Hamid Zadboum released a report on the latest status of Iran-EAEU trade and negotiations.

Iran and Eurasian Economic Union reached a free trade agreement in October 2018 based on which about 862 commodity items were subjected to preferential tariffs.

The interim agreement enabling the formation of a free trade area between Iran and the EAEU was signed on May 17, 2018, and officially came into force on October 27, 2019.

Iran is a very important market in the region and the development of ties with this country is of high significance for the EAEU members (Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan).

The free trade agreement between Iran and this union has laid the ground for the expansion of trade ties between the two sides.

The agreement with the bloc has increased Iran’s exports to the EAEU member states significantly, which is a turning point for the Islamic Republic’s plans for boosting non-oil exports during the U.S. sanctions.

In late January, Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (TCCIMA) hosted an Iran-Eurasia economic diplomacy meeting, attended by senior officials including the TCCIMA Head Masoud Khansari, the TPO head, and the Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mehdi Mir-Ashrafi.

In the meeting, the attendees reviewed the requirements and aspects of developing trade relations between the two sides, and by listing the existing challenges, offered solutions to remove obstacles and problems and facilitate trade.

At the beginning of the meeting, Khansari noted that the development of economic agreements in the region will help increase stability and security in the economies of member countries.

He stressed the need for using a common currency and replacing the U.S. dollar in trade exchanges between the members of the EAEU.

Ardakanian, in his message, praised the TCCIMA for holding this specialized conference and stressed the significance of using the capacities of the preferential trade agreement with the EAEU in the development of Iran’s non-oil exports.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri described a jump in the non-oil exports as a panacea for the country’s economic problems.

In remarks on Monday, Jahangiri said the promotion of non-oil exports is of paramount importance to the country’s economy in the current Iranian year.

All Iranian organizations engaged in the exports must join hands to meet the target of $41 billion in non-oil exports in the current year, he noted.

Describing the non-oil exports as the most important economic driver, the vice president said the expansion of non-oil exports will stimulate growth in production, employment, and supply of currency, and will contribute to the settlement of many problems.

The executive organizations must recognize that their main duty in the current year is to remove the obstacles in the way of promotion of non-oil exports, Jahangiri noted.

In January, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the national income has gone up thanks to a rise in the exports of non-oil goods.

In a new year message in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for a further surge in the national production with the participation of all organizations and sectors, saying, “Officials should act in a way that production will witness a surge, God willing, and that there will be a tangible change in the lives of the people.”

The government is trying to shoulder the pressures of the sanctions and remove them from the people, he added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri called for plans to develop the infrastructures for the digital economy in Iran, highlighting the role that the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology plays in working towards that goal.

In a meeting with ranking officials from the ICT Ministry on Sunday, the Iranian vice president said the global economy is rapidly moving towards digital computing technologies.

“If we ignore the digital economy, our economy will lag behind the cycle of the world economy, because the global economy is moving towards digitization with rapid acceleration,” Jahangiri added.

Pointing to the worst economic downturn in the world over the past 100 years in the wake of outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the vice president called for efforts to study various social, economic and cultural aspects of the rapidly-changing developments and to identify the relative advantages of the situation, the Iranian government’s official website reported.

He further stressed the need to develop the necessary social and legal infrastructures for the post-coronavirus era, noting that the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology will be the epicenter of all plans and arrangements for the new age.

Paying tribute to the ICT Ministry and the private sectors affiliated with the ministry for their “stellar performance” after the outbreak of COVID-19, Jahangiri said, “All of the country’s development plans and ongoing issues have been affected by the coronavirus today. In other terms, the coronavirus has turned into the main compass for policy-making and management of the country, because during the outbreak of the disease, serious attention must be paid to the health of people and a balance must be created in the other sectors as well, as in the economic sphere.”

Highlighting the key role of the start-ups in fulfilling the digital economy goals, the Iranian vice president emphasized the need for a good investment in the start-ups, knowledge-based companies, and the private sector, which he said must regulate the economy in practice.

He also touched on the leading role of the ICT Ministry in providing distance learning programs after the coronavirus outbreak, saying the influential ministry must also conduct a detailed analysis of the economy in the coming years to devise plans for technical and vocational schemes to attain the digital economy objectives.

Jahangiri further praised the ICT Ministry for formulating space programs, including the recent launch of a homegrown satellite in cooperation with the domestic universities.

“The development and completion of the National Information Network, which is a basic need of the country, could usher in the era of modern governance and administration in the country, by relying on which we could introduce a new administrative system to the country,” he added.

The vice president finally stressed the importance of implementing the electronic government scheme in Iran, saying the ICT Ministry has devised 23 projects with high priority to meet the requirements of an electronic government which is expected to fully come into force by March 2021.

“Development of the electronic government will provide all citizens with online access to broad services, will contribute to transparency and prevent corruption, and could also result in public satisfaction,” Jahangiri concluded.

He made the remarks in the meeting with managers and specialists of Pasteur Institute of Iran on Monday.

Stating that good cohesion has been established to combat coronavirus in the country, Jahangiri said, “Cohesion and companionship of people in addition to the great and exceptional work done by the country’s medical community will be effective in the fight against the virus.”

“If people stay at home to break the chain of infection, it can be said with certainty that we will be dominating the virus in the not too distant future,” he added.

“This is not just about Iran but for the whole world. Today, industrialized countries suffer the most,” he said, adding, “We didn’t find any problems because of the companionship of the people in the different sections. We have done well to meet the needs of our people, and our stores are full of daily supplies.”

“The government and the Coronavirus Combat and Prevention Headquarters have closed important religious and community centers since the first days of the outbreak. The main parts of the government are closed today, but some parts cannot be shut down,” Jahangiri said.

“The government will have to make tougher decisions if needed because we cannot neglect the health of the people,” he added.

According to the Coronavirus Combat and Prevention Headquarters session on Thursday, the social distancing project has been put into effect through serious from Friday and effective cooperation from all executive bodies in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus and will continue until April 3.

Based on the latest reports by Iran’s health ministry on Sunday, the death toll from the novel coronavirus outbreak, officially known as COVID-19, in Iran has risen to 2,640 with 38,309 confirmed cases.

In the statement released on Sunday, the Jahangiri office thanked the people for their concern about the health of the first vice-president, saying he has recovered from a cold and his Covid-19 test is negative.

With the grace of God, Jahangiri tested negative for the new coronavirus and since he has fully recovered, he returned to his office after two weeks, according to the statement.

First detected in Wuhan city in central China in December, the virus has spread to more than 120 countries, infecting more than 153,000 globally.

Iranian Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpoor announced on Sunday that 113 people have died of COVID-19 in the country over the past 24 hours, the country’s highest daily death toll since the outbreak of the infectious disease.

The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran has also hit 13,938 after detection of 1,209 new cases over the past 24 hours, he added.

Jahanpoor said while the coronavirus death toll in Iran has reached 724, a total of 4,590 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease.

Wherever in the region, the US deployment began, insecurity came later, Jahangiri said, addressing a ceremony in Tehran on Thursday.

He added that US forces have been present in Afghanistan and Iraq in the past few years, while such a presence has brought nothing to those nations because after that presence they have not been happy even for a single day.

Foreign forces in the region are creating insecurity as they cannot help restore security and calm, Jahangiri noted.

In relevant remarks in July, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted the US for its destabilizing measures across the world from Latin America to the Persian Gulf.

“Wherever the US makes a move, it stirs insecurity and instability there. Today, it foments insecurity in the Persian Gulf as well as the South American and Latin American region with its presence,” Zarif told reporters after arrival in Caracas to participate in a Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) conference at the time.

“We do not know anywhere in the world where the US presence has stirred stability; wherever they have stepped in, they have exerted pressure on people and increased extremism and terrorism,” he added.
