Alireza Jahanbakhsh joined the Premier League side from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2018 for a club-record of £17m.

While PSV Eindhoven is also interested in the 26-year-old, Ajax director of football Marc Overmars appears to have stolen a march on Eredivisie rival.

There has been no mention of how much Brighton would want in terms of a sale, but manager Graham Potter’s recent comments suggest the south coast club would listen to reasonable offers.

Speaking about Jahanbakhsh’s situation, the Brighton & Hove Independent quoted Potter as saying: “Of course he will be frustrated because he wants to play and I understand that.

“He’s great and does his best all the time, but he wants to play more like any other footballer.

“So that’s something we have to think about during the summer break, we have to do what’s right for him and the club. But he is a good player and can help us.

“But again, from his perspective, it is understandable that he wants to play more.”

Before Ajax offer, Jahanbakhsh has earned 50 caps for his country, scoring seven goals for the Persian Stars in the process.

Since leaving AZ Alkmaar for a big-money Premier League switch, Jahanbakhsh has failed to make the mark at Brighton and Hove Albion, scoring just twice in 34 career appearances.

In fact, Jahanbakhsh has made just eight Premier League appearances this season and with three years remaining on his contract, it could be the perfect time for Brighton to sell.

According to De Telegraaf, the 26-year-old would be open to an Eredivisie comeback and Ajax has set its sights on bringing him into the fold.

With Hakim Ziyech off to Chelsea, Ajax are in need of a winger and Marc Overmars has apparently been in contact with the player.

Brighton has come out of the lengthy delay with a big win against Arsenal and an impressive draw against Leicester and is now six points above the drop zone with seven games to play.

Should Brighton have the misfortune of getting relegated, Ajax would undoubtedly get a significant discount on Jahanbakhsh. It’s currently unclear how much Brighton want for the player.

Iran has been drawn along with Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Team Melli will kick off the competition with a match against Morocco on June 15 at Saint Petersburg Stadium.

“As I’ve already said, the match against Morocco is our most important match in group stage,” Jahanbakhsh said.

“Team Melli has a difficult job against Spain in its second match because they have quality players. Iran has also quality players and we want to defend the honor of our country,” AZ Alkmaar winger said.

Jahanbakhsh represented Team Melli in friendly match against Turkey Monday night.
