TEHRAN (Iran News) The foreign ministers of Iran and Italy in a telephone conversation have discussed the latest developments in the West Asian region, especially the continuation of the genocide in occupied Palestine, and emphasized the need for urgent action to stop the killings and provide assistance to the displaced people.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who has traveled to Rome to participate in the fifth round of indirect Iran-US talks, responded to a phone call from Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who is abroad, and informed him of the outcome of Friday’s talks.

TEHRAN (Iran News) At the start of the meeting, Ms. Shahabi, Secretary of the Iran-Italy Joint Chamber, introduced the chamber, stating, “The Iran-Italy Chamber is the oldest joint chamber in Europe, operating with over 5,500 registered members.”

Highlighting the longstanding and strong relations between the two nations, she added, “Before the imposition of sanctions, the trade volume between Iran and Italy reached $7.4 billion. However, sanctions have reduced this figure to $1.4 billion. Despite this, the trade balance has consistently remained positive for Iran.”

Ahmad Pourfallah, President of the Iran-Italy Joint Chamber, elaborated on future plans, saying, “For 2025, in collaboration with the International Affairs Department of the Iran Chamber and the Italian Embassy, we have outlined joint programs, including hosting and dispatching trade delegations.”

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with Italian counterparts, noting, “Our Italian counterpart, the Italy-Iran Chamber of Commerce, is managed by Dr. Zampilli, a prominent figure in the country’s power plant industry.”

Pourfallah reflected on past achievements, mentioning, “In 2019, we sent a delegation of 60 Iranian companies to the Milan Expo. Numerous programs have also been implemented in recent years to develop trade relations.”

He stressed the need for structural reforms and called for a review of the joint chambers’ statutes. Pourfallah proposed, “We suggest forming a policy-making council comprised of elected presidents of joint chambers, and these chambers should, like other associations and provincial chambers, have a representative in the Iran Chamber of Commerce Assembly.”

The president also underlined the importance of evaluating joint chambers’ performance, stating, “Assessment criteria need to be reviewed to establish more precise indicators for measuring these chambers’ effectiveness.”

Pourfallah concluded by announcing training sessions on sanctions and FATF regulations, inviting private sector participants to attend.

Samad Hassanzadeh, President of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, highlighted missed investment opportunities by Italian companies, saying, “In 2018, negotiations were held for Italian investments in the hospitality sector, with plans to establish Italian hotel chains, particularly in Tabriz. Unfortunately, sanctions obstructed this project.”

Additionally, Hamed Asgari, Deputy of International Affairs of the Iran Chamber, stressed the need for joint chambers to coordinate with the International Affairs Department during meetings with foreign political officials to achieve more effective outcomes.

The meeting concluded with a summary of proposals and plans, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation between Iran and Italy and improving the performance of joint chambers.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the different stages of the project, revealing original drawings, sketches, blueprints, vintage photos, and objects from the construction time, including an impressive model depicting the residential complex and an illustrative brochure showcasing the housing units.

The exhibit features insights into the construction and design of the 333-apartment residential maxi-space space in Vanak square, which is still in excellent conditions, housing over 1,500 residents.

In his address to local architects, designers, journalists, and artists gathered for the opening event, Ambassador Perrone highlighted the milestones of the Italian-Iranian relationship in architecture, particularly fruitful from the ‘50s to the ‘70s. Gio Ponti’s Villa Namazi, Vico Magistretti’s “Parc des Princes”, and Gaetano Pesce’s National Library are the highlight of this decades-long bond.

The exhibition also showcases Magistretti’s 1974 original drawings and sketches of Cerruti 1881’s showroom in Vesal Shirazi Street, Tehran. It features sophisticated architectural solutions devised by the Italian architect, including a spiral staircase in the center of the showroom, as well as high-quality tables and furniture.

Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Perrone hosted the event where many distinguished art especially artists, architects, diplomats and media persons were present.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Perrone welcomed the participants and explained about the operation for restoring and remodling the conference hall that it has now a climate of mixed Iranian and Italian cultural works.

He said that this building is very important artistically and historically, noting that First Secretary and Head of the Economic and Commercial Office David Baloni and Cultural and Press Attache Yara Romanova helped a great deal in restoring and opening this hall.

He said that there were two goals behind restoring this hall, one was the importance of cooperation between Iran and Italy and some pictures used in this hall are taken from Iranian films focused on Italy and also from Villa Namazee which is significant example for cultural cooperation between Iran and Italy.

He said that some part of Iranian documentary “Radiology of a Family” has been made in this hall by Firouzeh Khosrovani and some photos of the film are now in the hall.

He added that the second goal behind this action was to gather a valuable collection of cultural cooperation between the two states through showing cultural of Iran and Italian classic culture.

Then Baloni, for his part, explained the reasons for this action and said that they have tried to give value to the objects. He said that Villa Namazee is very important and one of the most important example of building villa in an Italian style which was built in Iran by Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti designed his third villa (after the Venezuelan Villa Planchart and Villa Arreaza).

He added some of architectural arts of this villa have been put on display in this hall. He then explained about the photos on the wall of the hall and tapestry used there.

Then famous Iranian architect Kamran Naderi briefed the participants of the Italian Ambassador Residence which is a beautiful garden in Iranian style adding that the garden is around 7000 square meters and it is one of the few Iranian gardens which has been preserved so far.

He also noted that cultural exchange is very important especially in architecture.

At the end of the event, Ms. Khosrovani, maker of documentary of Radiology of a Family, briefed the participants of the reason for choosing this hall as one of the locations for her documentary.

Ambassador of Italy H.E. Giuseppe Perrone hosted this event at the Italian Residence where some foreign diplomats and honorary guests attended to watch screening of this documentary.

Before the screening of the film, Mr. Perrone said that Italy like many other European states have shown their support to Ukraine and its nation and hailed the resistance and pride of Ukrainians in defending their lands against Russians. He also said that Iranians because of their experience of eight years of war can feel what is going in Ukraine.

He then pointed to Ukrainian President’s recent remarks that he has said he hopes this would be the first and last anniversary of the war.

Then he touched upon the documentary “Kordon” (Border) which has been made by young Italian film-maker Alice Tomassini.

Co-produced by Vatican Media and Tenderstories, Kordon held its world premiere at the 2022 Rome International Film Festival and its European premiere at the 2022 UK Film Festival, where it won the award for “Best Documentary.”

Displaying the importance of non-violent social help through the stories of these five women, the film aims to shine a light on the powerful role women can play as peacemakers in times of conflict and turmoil.

Kordon is a call to stand together in solidarity and unite in the face of unspeakable trauma and difficulty; to help each other and those in need.

Meanwhile Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in Tehran Yevhen Kravchenko, for his part, pointed to the war which has affected the lives of Ukrainians and expressed his gratitude to Embassy of Italy for holding the event for reflecting what has happened in Ukraine. He then pointed to some field developments in the war.

Then the documentary “Kordon” was screened for the participants in the event. The documentary «Kordon» narrates the story of 5 ordinary women doing some extraordinary things to help and give hope to Ukrainian refugees, united through a timeless train station at the Ukrainian border with Hungary. «Kordon» is a thoughtful and blaring portrait of female resistance, courage and solidarity.

The documentary is to be screened worldwide on February, the anniversary of Russia war against Ukraine.

At the end of the event, cultural attache and press secretary of Embassy of Italy, Yara Romanova, briefed the participants about the war in Ukraine.

“The Radkan Tower” directed Ehsan Mollazadeh and Hojjat Heidari, and “Isatis” by Alireza Dehqan will be screened in the Archaeological Cinema section of the festival, which will take place in Rovereto from September 28 to October 2.

“The Radkan Tower” is about a 25-meter conical brick tower in Iran, which has attracted visitors for centuries. It is a very advanced astronomical instrument, built almost 800 years ago under the supervision of Khawaja Nasir ad-Din al-Tusi, which has the ability to determine the exact moment of the change of each season, bringing the good news of the arrival of the spring.

In “Isatis”, water, wind, earth and fire tell the story of this millenary city: Isatis, the first city in the world to be built of brick, in the heart of the desert. The documentary is a narration of ancient rites and historical anecdotes; a demonstration of peaceful coexistence between religions; the revelation of the material and immaterial heritage of an ancient culture.

The animated movie “Gilgamesh” and “The Improvement of Human Reason”, both directed by Hossein Moradizadeh, will be shown in the Culture section.

“The Improvement of Human Reason” is based on a 12th-century philosophical treatise on human nature. It tells of a child who grows up alone on a remote island, learns to cover himself, defend himself and light a fire. He knows the sky and sees the world as a living creature, respecting plants and animals. One day, Absal arrives on the island and takes him to his land. But they are all too greedy and vain there and Havy decides to return to the island.

“Gilgamesh” recounts the Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest literary work in the world. The earliest known version was written in Akkadian in the 19th century BC and best describes the human pursuit of immortality. Gilgamesh, the famous hero of Uruk, a city in the land of the Sumerians, in Mesopotamia, has a semi-divine semi-human character and fights for immortality throughout his life, failing many times.

“Iran Traditional Ice Houses” will be showcased in the Glimpses from the World category.

Director Mehdi Ahmadi shows that before the advent of technology, the differences between the various countries were evident in the world, in the production and consumption of ice. Perhaps the strangest way of preserving ice was the one in use in Iran.

“Felting” by Ehsan Amini, “Tilework” by Keyvan Ahmadi and “Saffron-Based Lifestyle” by Parisa Bajelan will compete in the Looks from the World section.

In “Felting” the focus is on the extinction of felting art in Isfahan, and in “Tilework”, the artisan Ilia tells how the art of ceramics is gradually disappearing in the central Iranian city.

“Saffron-Based Lifestyle” shows how saffron’s white bud and purple sprout come out of the soil at night and must be picked before sunrise so that the sun doesn’t cause its aroma to fade. This flower has a close relationship with people’s lifestyle and is a symbol of collaboration between family members.

During his conversations with Stefania Craxi, Amir Abdollahian emphasized the importance of the two nations’ parliaments in fostering the growth of their ties by approving their respective agreements of cooperation and urged the Italian parliament to expedite this process.

The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to the developments in Ukraine, stating that his country favors political dialogue and a resolution to the Ukraine war.

The senior Iranian diplomat also emphasized the significance of providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Amir Abdollahian noted that Iran has discussed this with representatives from the Russian and Ukrainian governments.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, and the lifting of the anti-Tehran sanctions were also two other topics covered by the Iranian foreign minister.

In order to secure a good and lasting deal, he said, Iran has put forth good initiatives. He expected the U.S. administration to respond to Iran’s efforts by adopting a realistic stance.

The top Italian senator, in turn, stated that Iran’s perspectives on the Ukraine situation and the negotiations to lift the sanctions are crucial.

Craxi also emphasized the want for more stable situation all throughout the world.

Speaking in the event, Italian Ambassador to Tehran Giuseppe Perrone said that in a strongly instable international context, huge financial resources in the form of the Recovery and Resilience Plan will lead to injection of over 200b euros to the Italian economic system and this will definitely lead to growth and it will be a driving force which can boost domestic production and increase consumption and it will create attractive opportunities for investment.

Participants in the event by sharing their past lessons and recounted trade successes like old Italian city Padova-based home appliances manufacturing company Lofra which has been bought and re-launched by Iranian entrepreneur Mr. Reza Salehizadeh. They also reviewed the possibility for reinforcing bilateral cooperation in the field of investment and future trends through the speeches of experts in different trade and legal fields.

Chairman of Iran-Italy Joint Chamber Eng. Pourfallah, Head of Economic and Commercial Section of Italian Embassy David Balloni and head of ITA in Tehran Mr. Giancarlo Albano were other speakers in this event.

This lively and fruitful event ended with a question-answer section where some distinguished Iranian entrepreneurs had chances to get their answers regarding their questions on the technical issues which were aimed at their successful entry into the Italian economic system.

Doctor by profession, humanist by inspiration and artist by nature, Bianchini has left a vivid memory in Iran not only for his humanitarian work, but also for his artistic work, carried out over 24 years spent in the most remote areas of the country, such as the provinces of Razavi Khorasan, South Khorasan, Kurdistan, Khuzestan and Kerman.

Through medicine, literature and art, Bianchini has given voice to the suffering of the most disadvantaged members of society, highlighting their dignity and deeply human experience through simple and direct images of figures portrayed in their absolute, unapologetic loneliness.

Bianchini’s work, associated in its style and inspiration with the Italian artistic movement “Arte Povera”, consists today of a large number of paintings and sculptures, as well as collections of poems translated into Persian by important Iranian artists and writers, including Bahman Mohassess, himself the subject of a documentary in the same series by the Italian Embassy in Tehran.

Some of these works by Bianchini will be the subject of an exclusive exhibition, currently in the making with the support of the Italian Embassy in Tehran, to be inaugurated in the next few months at the Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

“Vincenzo Bianchini was an important and evocative artist, whose work has yet to be adequately discovered and appreciated” Ambassador Perrone said at the event in his residence. “He has shown that a man, an artist, can become a better person and a better artist by discovering, researching and embracing new cultures and lifestyles”.

“I am happy that the Italian Embassy in Tehran is part of this new project and that the upcoming exhibition at the Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art, with the support of our Embassy, will give a voice to an Italian artist who stands as a symbol of the enduring exchange and mutual enrichment between the Italian and the Persian culture”, he concluded.

The documentary “Vincenzo Bianchini. The Humanist and the Artist “, as well as the previous six episodes of the series “From Tehran to Rome. A Journey through Art” featuring Italian and Iranian artists whose life and career have been shaped in both countries, culture and art, are available on the social media channels of the Italian Embassy in Tehran (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter).
