Italian Brother Trapped with Sister’s Body in Coronavirus Shutdown

According To Iran News, The brother of a woman who died at home after contracting coronavirus had to issue a desperate appeal on social media to persuade Italian authorities to come and collect her body.

Teresa Franzese, 47, lived with her family in the southern city of Naples and started to show the symptoms of coronavirus last week. Her health deteriorated rapidly and she died on Saturday before the results of a test for the disease was known.

Given the uncertainty, undertakers and even the local hospital refused to pick up the body.

“My sister is dead, in bed. I don’t know what to do. I can’t give her the funeral she deserves because the institutions have abandoned me,” her brother Luca Franzese said in a video posted on Facebook.

Franzese, a personal fitness trainer, showed her body laid behind him. “We are ruined. Italy has abandoned us. Let’s stay strong together. Please share this video everywhere,” he said, struggling to hold back his emotions.

Finally, after waiting 36 hours, undertakers wearing protective clothing arrived and took the body directly to a local cemetery where she was interred without ceremony.

Her family had to stay in quarantine at home because of fears they might also have the disease.

Italy has shut down almost all its shops except food stores and pharmacies in Europe’s toughest lockdown as virus deaths in the country rose to 827 with more than 12,000 cases of the illness confirmed.

Franzese said his sister suffered from epilepsy. As her condition worsened he said he insisted that she be tested for coronavirus. “To keep her alive I tried to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Nobody gave a damn,” he said.

Results finally showed that Teresa Franzese had been suffering from coronavirus. Subsequent tests showed that two other family members had the illness, though not Luca Franzese, said Le Iene TV show, which interviewed him, Reuters reported.

Only one person is reported to have died so far in the Campania region, which is centered on Naples, and Franzese said the authorities had decided she had died of epilepsy.

“How can they know this if a postmortem was not carried out?” he said in a post on his Facebook page.

Iranian Artists Forum to host Italian film festival

TEHRAN – The Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran will be playing host to an Italian film festival opening on July 1.

Six movies by Italian filmmakers will be reviewed at the event, Italian Ambassador Mauro Conciatori said during a press conference held at the Forum on Wednesday.

He added that the two Italian film experts will be invited to hold two seminars on film set and special effects during the festival, which will be running until July 6.

The Forum director Majid Rajabi-Memar also said that the films have been selected carefully and will be screened in Italian with English and Persian subtitles.

Italian deputy min. highlights Iran’s vital role in regional economic stability

Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and the Italian deputy minister of foreign affairs discussed methods for expanding bilateral relations.

Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Mohammad Khazaee who has traveled to Italy in order to hold negotiations and talks with Italian economic officials, met with the Italian deputy minister of foreign affairs in the ministry headquarters.

Mohammad Khazaee who attended this meeting with Iran’s Ambassador pointed to the long history of friendly relations between the two countries and stressed that Iran is determined to expand bilateral ties. He said that bilateral and multilateral ties are important factors in creating employment, expanding export markets and decreasing poverty and migration.

The financial support given to certain terrorist groups by world powers was another topic of discussion between the two parties.

Deputy Minister of economic affairs and finance highlighted the significance of the 5 billion euro contract that can lead to the expansion of economic ties between the two countries and called it a clear sign of tactful policies adopted by Italy and the EU which are quite independent from the US policies toward Iran and the region.

For his part, Italian deputy minister of foreign affairs expressed satisfaction over the measures taken and stressed that economic and political cooperation with Iran is among the priorities of the Italian government.

Having stressed the role played by Iran in regional upheavals and maintaining peace and economic stability in the region, he expressed hope that the bilateral cooperation can lead to fundamental, important projects.
