TEHRAN (Iran News)  President Masoud Pezeshkian says unity among Islamic countries could serve as a powerful deterrent against any aggression.

In a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday, Pezeshkian emphasized the critical role of major Muslim nations in safeguarding the Islamic world.

Both sides held talks on the sidelines of an emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha.

The responsibility of leading Muslim nations like Saudi Arabia is heavier than ever, Pezeshkian said.

If Islamic countries stand united, he said, the Israeli regime would not dare to attack any Muslim nation.

Expressing satisfaction with the growing ties between Tehran and Riyadh, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with Saudi Arabia across bilateral, regional, and international dimensions. “Pezeshkian”

He said that deeper cooperation would benefit not only the two nations but also the broader Muslim world and regional stability.

For his part, the Saudi Crown Prince stressed the need for long-term empowerment of Islamic nations to defend their independence and dignity and to resist excessive Israeli demands.

He called for immediate joint efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and Gaza.

“Our region is in a critical state,” he said, adding that reinforcing cooperation and unity among Islamic countries is not merely an option but an absolute necessity.

The leader made the comment during a meeting with participants in the 35th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.

“Unity and solidarity among Muslims is not a tactical issue, which some may imagine, we should, due to certain circumstances, be united. No, [Muslims’ unity] is a fundamental issue. Muslims’ synergy is necessary; if Muslims unite and work toward synergy, this strengthens all of them. Muslims’ unity is a clear religious duty [mentioned] in the Quran,” the leader said in an address to the participants on the birth anniversary of Islam’s holy Prophet Mohammad.

“The birth of the prophet is actually the beginning of new era in the life of the humanity. It is a promise for a new chapter of divine will and blessing for the humanity.”

He added that the reason that the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the unity among Muslims is that enemies are trying to create rift and division among Sunnis and Shiites and the issue of Shiite and Sunni has entered the literature of the U.S. in recent years while they essentially oppose Islam itself but stick to the issue of Shiite and Sunni.

He also said the U.S. can create sedition in any part of the world that it can, and the best example is the near incident in Afghanistan almost two weeks ago when a Shiite mosque was exploded and many people were martyred during the Friday Prayer.

Top Iranian officials, including the heads of the three branches of government, as well as participants in the 35th International Islamic Unity Conference in Iran have met with Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in the capital Tehran on Sunday.

The meeting was held on the birth anniversary of Islam’s holy Prophet Mohammad, which is used as an occasion to hold the Islamic Unity Conference every year.

The event was held in strict observance of health protocols announced by the national taskforce against the coronavirus pandemic.

The Leader also thanked Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Akhtari for his efforts as the secretary general of the assembly.

The Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) World Assembly is an international non-governmental organization (INGO) that was established by a group of Shia scholars and elites in 1990 to identify, organize, educate and support the followers of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari served as its secretary general from March 2004 to August 2019.

“We consider this land as the land of jihad, martyrdom, self-sacrifice and devotion,” he said, expressing happiness over visiting Karbala and making pilgrimage.

He continued “the people of Iraq, especially Karbala, warmly welcome Iranian pilgrims during Arba’een and I would like to thank them on behalf of the Iranian nation.”

The President added “we are very happy that there is more unity, brotherhood and solidarity between the Iranian and Iraqi nations.”

“The first people that came to help Iraq in their fight against ISIS and Al-Qaeda, were the people of Iran,” he said, adding “after the occupation of Mosul by ISIS terrorists, we announced in a public speech that we would not tolerate threats against holy cities of Iraq, including Karbala.”

He went on to congratulate the Iraqi nation, nomads and Marjas for foiling the plots of the enemies against the region and Iraq, adding “in this stage, the two governments agreed to issue visas free of charge.”

“The two governments also decided to deepen economic relations and create border markets for investment by Iranian and Iraqi tradespeople,” he said.

Rouhani also said “we are trying to make academic relations between the two countries closer and, in doing so, we are ready to provide several laboratories for Iraqi universities.”

He said “unity and integrity in Iraq is to the benefit of Iraq and the entire region and the two countries agree on security and stability issues.”

The Iranian president, who arrived in Iraq on Monday for a three-day state visit, made pilgrimage to the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and Abbas ibn Ali (PBUH) and said his prayers there on Tuesday evening. He also arrived in Karbala city on Tuesday afternoon as part of his programs for the visit to Iraq. Upon arrival, Rouhani was welcomed by the Governor General of Karbala and Iran’s Consul General in Karbala.
